About Chris Haley

My name is Chris Haley and I live in Halifax, West Yorkshire.

Chris Haley purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Chris Haley chose Melbecks

I bought Bridge View a few years ago when it was in a pretty poor and neglected state. I have completely renovated it and it is now a real home from home. I adore the Yorkshire Dales and Swaledale is my favourite.

When researching my family tree, I discovered that all my great grandparents were from the area so I figure Swaledale must be in my DNA!

What makes this cottage unique

It is incredibly peaceful, tranquil and beautiful. Ideal base for exploring Swaledale and the surrounding area

Comfy, well placed and cosy cottage.

We had a relaxing week in the cottage. The area is beautiful, with dramatic scenery and wonderful walks from Gunnerside.

Easter Stay

  • 5 of 5

When we arrived the property was very cold and we were worried the old cottage might be hard to heat due to its age. We soon turned up the heating and lit the wood burning stove, within a couple of hours the house was lovely and toasty. Leaving the heating on low meant the house stayed warm all the time. The property was plenty spacious for the 6 of us and had everything we required.

Would highly recommend this cottage. Excellent location for walkers and a excellent pub opposite, (bagettes were great value) what more could you ask for :)

Lovely cottage with absolutely everything you would need

  • 5 of 5

There were 4 adults and 2 children who stayed here for 2 nights. The cottage had everything we needed. It was gorgeous. The location was great. Unfortunately the weather wasn't and we had snow so didn't manage to explore the area as much as we would have liked.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your feedback Helen, am glad you liked the Cottage. Shame about the weather - Swaledale is usually so beautiful in Springtime! Kind regards Chris

Superb location

  • 5 of 5

A lovely cottage in the heart of the dales. It's warm and clean and has a fire. Central heating was a must and this is a new system so very good when we were snowed in. You can spit to the pub and eat there also. You are pretty remote so take lots of essentials with you. The owner is relaxed about pets so ideal if you have a large family (of dogs)

Nice cottage, great location

  • 5 of 5

We had a 3 night break with the kids and dogs during February half term. Cottage was well set up, nice wood burning stove. Perfect location, quiet village, walking from the door and a pub opposite. Good fish and chip van too if you're there on a Friday.
