Located in the medieval hill-top village of Montauroux, 20km to the north-west of Cannes and 15km west of Grasse, Villa Neroli is a charming Provençal villa, situated on the sought-after Chemin de Bigarel. South-facing, with far-reaching views of the Esterel across the valley, the large (240m²) villa has its own pool, a choice of dining and lounging areas and a well-tended garden at the front, with a smaller garden, patio area and rising terraces at the back. About the Owner

Back in 2005 we had the slightly crazy idea of living in France for a year...maybe more. Villa Neroli is the lucky result of our moment of madness, having been our family home for 2005/6. Our family had an amazing year here - the children happily went to the local primary school, we all improved our French and we still have the fantastic friends we made then. Thanks to some of these friends, we have been persuaded to rent the villa when we're in the UK so that other people can also enjoy it. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you need advice on any aspect of your stay - our 'phone no. and email address are both available via Owners Direct. We hope you have a wonderful holiday.

Guestbook comments from the manager

"Lovely, relaxing place, very private with great views. Being so close to the village really made our holiday because we could walk to the boulangerie every morning for fresh bread and croissants, and in the evening we could walk into the village for dinner." Mrs L. Maile, St Albans

"We have stayed in this lovely family home several times in the summer, each time thoroughly enjoying ourselves. We often walked up to the village in the morning and ate in one of its restaurants later in the day. We could easily drive to Cannes and other parts of the Riviera, as well as the stupendous Gorge of Verdon.

The house itself is extremely comfortable and well-equipped, with a fantastic view over its pool and garden to the Estoril in the distance.

Although many people come by fly/drive, we prefer the train, which takes us from St Pancras via Paris to St Raphael/Frejus, from where one can catch a bus to Montauroux." Mr & Mrs Cussens, Oxon.

Relaxing luxury

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the end of July 2016, having booked with Miriam. Miriam was quick to respond and provided all the information we needed. After a long journey we were met by Pascal with a smile and a tour to familiarise us. In the property was also a much appreciated bottle of wine, juice and milk etc. Great after a long journey.

The villa is homely, beautiful, well equipped and very clean. Our children loved the pool and the wifi (a must for any teenagers). There was plenty to do around Montauroux, lots of good restaurants and supermarkets. We drove to Gorge du Verdon, which was a drive, but so worth it. We also drove to Monaco for the day, which was loved by all the family.

We would recommend this villa and location to anyone.

A beautiful villa in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week at this stunning and spacious villa. We enjoyed staying in and enjoying the garden and pool as much as we enjoyed exploring the area. A short, steep, walk up to the local village was a daily occurrence for a coffee and fresh croissants but we also explored further afield with trips to Lac St Cassiene, Fayence and Grasse. The area has a lot to offer and the villa offer a great base. But if its just R&R you're after, you could equally be more than happy spending your days at the villa and enjoying the various outdoor eating areas and the lovely pool. Pascal was a great host during our visit and nothing was too much trouble. Overall a highly enjoyable stay and one that I would recommend without hesitation.

Spacious and Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

The house is spacious, comfortable and well-equipped, set in an attractive private garden with good shade and a lovely pool. Excellent view from the garden and front windows. The air conditioning works well and is welcome on hot nights. All this in accordance with or exceeding the description. Pascal welcomed us warmly and was available in case anything went wrong but nothing did. There are several walking routes of various lengths up to the village, some steeper than others, but it’s only a short distance as the crow flies and there’s a bakery, cafes and restaurants. There’s also a small Casino for basic food etc. in the village and a big E. Leclerc a few minutes’ drive away. There were four in our party and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Montauroux is in a beautiful and interesting area and the peaceful surroundings of the house helped me make good progress with my second novel. The first can be found here http://tinyurl.com/WmConiston .

Spacious modern villa with superb pool and views

  • 5 of 5

Villa Neroli is on a hill-side below the village and the grounds are very well landscaped so that you are not overlooked. The pool is a very good size and cleaned, maintained weekly. Downstairs is open plan, very spacious and well equipped. The main bedroom is downstairs and has much needed air conditioning. The upstairs bedrooms do not currently have a/c, and this summer it was very, very hot, so it's good that the owners are planning to install air conditioning throughout. Three outdoor eating areas give you a lot of choice.

The village is at the top of a very steep hill, so I tended to drive up to a car park just outside the village for the daily purchase of croissants and baguettes from a lovely boulangerie. We had a couple of good meals at the popular La Marina restaurant in Montauroux, and there are numerous fine dining restaurants within a 30 minute drive. Nice airport and Mediterranean resorts are less than a mile away. We had a very relaxing 2 weeks at Villa Neroli, and would thoroughly recommend it and come back again.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your review - I am delighted to hear that you would stay at Villa Neroli again and that you would thoroughly recommend it to other guests. For the benefit of future guests, it must be pointed out that the villa is very much in Montauroux village, on one of its main thoroughfares in fact (Chemin de Bigarel), and is only 500 metres from the village centre. Although there is plenty of parking in the village, there is also the option of taking a 15 minute stroll to the village square via the less steep of the two hills and admiring the stunning view across the valley to Callian, Montauroux's sister village, (also easily accessible on foot). It must be a typing error, but Villa Neroli is actually 33 miles from Nice airport - thankfully! The Mediterranean itself is closer, with the beaches at Cannes or at Théoule-sur-Mer both about 20 miles from the villa. La Marina restaurant is certainly a great asset to Montauroux, as is La Brasserie du Clos in the square - (plenty of atmosphere and surprisingly good fish!) - and you are absolutely right about the many opportunities for fine dining in the area: only 15 minutes drive away in Fayence there is the outstanding Table d'Yves - http://www.latabledyves.com/uk/index.php, much frequented by locals and visitors alike, we've always had memorable meals there. Newly opened in 2015, on the site of the (now retired) Eric Maio's Michelin starred establishment, we have Le Carré d'Ange - http://restaurant-carredange.fr/, where creative young chef David Carré is definitely making his mark with an exciting and imaginative take on Provençal ingredients....and it's on the outskirts of Montauroux - just 5 minutes drive from Villa Neroli!

Excellent Villa for family holiday

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from, probably, our best holiday experience ever. The Villa is a credit to the owners who have thought of everything, it is tastefully decorated and extremely well equipped.

Our 16 year old daughter and 11 year old twins (Boy and Girl) loved the pool so much it made relaxing very easy and the holiday flew by. Pascal was a wonderful agent who was very helpful and courteous and his English was infinitely better than our French!

The Marina Restaurant food in the village was FAB as was the Bar du Clos. The local markets are great and within easy reach. Are only wish is that we could have stayed longer but we will be back again. Would definitely recommend this Villa to anyone wanting a break in this area of France.

Excellent weeks holiday in a quality property

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived we knew this villa would have everything we needed for a comfortable, relaxed holiday and it didn't disappoint.

Pascal met us promptly with the keys and straight from the get go the electric gates and solid entrance door made us feel secure in our gated hideaway.

The grounds are well shielded and private, the pool large and clean, and the lounging areas providing lovely views of the country side from the elevated position.

The interior was excellent with huge bathrooms, living areas and the kitchen left you wanting for nothing with everything that you could possibly require.

I took my mountain bike along and even that was catered for with a huge double garage to assemble it and utility room to wash my kit etc.

It seemed everything had been thought of.

The area is beautiful with several bakeries and supermarkets nearby. There are plenty of restaurants in Montauroux and the neighbouring villages. We used the villa's guide books to plan a mountainous village tour into the Haut Var which was a great day and also drove to Saint Maxime and caught the water taxis across the bay visiting Port Grimaud and St Tropez.

All in all we had a great holiday and it was lovely to come back each day to a luxurious villa.

Further Details:

Montauroux, a medieval village "perché", was the birthplace of Christian Dior. The village has a lovely hillside setting with glorious views over the St. Cassien lake and the hills of the Esterel National Park. It offers all the conveniences you may require including a local supermarket, several bakers, butcher, pharmacy, a lively local bar, large tourist office, Post Office, bank (with ATM) and several good restaurants all within a 10 minute walk from the villa. There are also several large supermarkets, numerous shops and many more restaurants within a 5 minute drive.

The area in which Montauroux is located is known as the “Pays de Fayence”, Fayence being the largest local village, while the “département” is the Var, boasting some of the finest scenery Provence has to offer. The countryside is predominantly wooded hillside, dotted with picturesque, perched villages, interspersed with luxuriant valleys and deep gorges sparkling with fast flowing rivers and crystal-clear rock pools. The clear waters of nearby Lake St. Cassien are excellent for swimming. It is also famous for carp fishing and offers a range of watersports. The nearest lake access is located a short drive down the road, and there are many beaches and swimming areas dotted around the lake.

You could also take a trip into the Tanneron hills and enjoy marvellous views over the lake and the Esterel National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty and spectacular peaks. Venturing further, the breath-taking Gorge de Verdon - one of the deepest canyons in Europe - is 1.5hrs away and well worth a day trip.

Facilities

From the Owner

The short walk into the village - (there are two routes, one steeper than the other!)- is truly spectacular, with amazing views across the valley. The villa itself is spacious, well laid out and simply a very relaxing place to be; there is such a wide choice of sitting/lying areas - from the balcony to the hammock, not to mention the tranquility of the pool - that everyone can find a favourite hideaway. The kitchen is a joy to cook in, and the breakfast bar(s) seat 6 comfortably. With nearly all the rooms facing south, the villa is sunny all day, and there are fantastic sunsets followed by clear, starry skies.
