Cottage in Great Hucklow, Derbyshire Dales, Derbyshire, England - Away From The Madding Crowds But With Easy Access To Local Villages, Market Towns And Attractions

At West End, we offer home-from-home self-catering comfort, combined with a warm welcome, in a fantastic edge-of-village location, surrounded by some of the Peak District's finest walking, cycling and climbing countryside.

This 2-bedroom cottage has light and spacious first-floor living accommodation boasting views towards Bradwell, and beyond to Losehill and the Dark Peak. It is a great place to unwind and relax. The master bedroom and bathroom are located on the ground floor. The second (twin) bedroom is on the first floor, along with the sitting room and kitchen. This layout may not be suitable for people with mobility problems and families with young children (under 8 years).

There is a small area of (unenclosed) garden to the front of the property.

Great Hucklow itself is a small village, conveniently off the beaten track but within easy reach of post office and shopping facilities in Tideswell, Bradwell and Eyam (all within 2-3 miles), the market towns of Bakewell and Buxton, and the historic houses of Chatsworth and Haddon. It is ideally located for a wide range of activities, from the physical "outdoorsy" to the cultural to the crafty to the gastronomic!

About Janet Persey

We are a family of four - my husband and I and our two daughters. We moved here from London in 1996. We wanted to be closer to Janet's parents, who lived near Nottingham, and we wanted to bring our children up in a healthy and beautiful environment. Here, we can enjoy the glories of both the limestone White Peak and the gritstone Dark Peak. We are lively and outgoing. We enjoy sports (husband is keen on tennis and windsurfing, I am a personal fitness trainer and enjoy running, cycling, kettlebells, aerobics and dance). We have recently taken up (and love!) salsa classes at a Cuban tapas bar in Sheffield.

Why Janet Persey chose Derbyshire Dales

The house is quirky, the village is off the beaten track, very friendly and surprisingly lively. We thought we were moving to the back of beyond - wrong! Yes, we are tucked away here, but everywhere is so accessible (even in winter, when the gritters and snow-ploughs keep the roads passable!).

We moved in just before Christmas. It snowed at New Year. Hucklow Christmas lights in the snow - magical and unforgettable!

What makes this cottage unique

The walking and cycling possibilities from the door are fabulous. Each time we go out, we are struck by the beauty of where we live and how privileged we are to be here. It is a real joy to be able to share all this with our guests.

Notes on accommodation: The entrance hall has hanging space for outdoor clothing and racks for muddy boots. We love where we live and enjoy sharing it with others. ***Please note that nightly rates are automatically calculated by Owners Direct and do not accurately reflect the prices for short breaks which are based on the weekly rate as follows : 3 nights, 60%, 4 nights, 70%, 5 nights, 80%, 6 nights, 90%.***

A discount of £50 on these prices is offered for occupancy by just 2 people (sharing a room).

Hire of bedlinen and towels is included in the rental, as is electricity.

To make a booking, please telephone or email to check availability, at which point a provisional booking can be made pending receipt of your booking form (downloadable from the owner's personal website) and payment. A deposit of £20 per person is required at the point of booking, with the balance payable no later than 6 weeks before arrival date.

Changeover Day:
Weekly bookings usually run from Friday to Friday. Arrival and departure times may vary, as we aim to be as flexible as we can. You will not usually be required to depart before 11.30 a.m.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 7 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 14 days before check-in date.
