About the Owner

Hi we are Ron and Sonja. We live in Artillery Cottage, the other end of Lilies Cottage. Don't worry though, Lilies Cottage has its own entrance, parking and beautiful gardens offering you, our guests, privacy during your stay.

We moved in towards the end of 2013 and set about continuing the good work of the previous owners of refurbishing Lilies (now complete) and yet maintaining its period charm.

Our children are grown up and have moved on but now we have a cottage on the coast there are even more reasons for them to return home from time to time - just what we intended when moving!

Guestbook comments from the owner

A selection from our Guest Book ...

Joyce and Ken from Canada - "Thank you Sonja and Ron for a really enjoyable stay at Lilies..." - June 2014.

Kerry, Richard & Poppy from East Sussex - "The cottage is lovely, dear and with everything we needed with a toddler..." - September 2014.

Liz and Mo from Brighton - "Great little cottage with everything we needed except ice for my Baileys!..." - January 2015.

... you can check if you stay with us!

A note for Liz and Mo from the Owners - we wouldn't want anyone to be without ice for their Baileys or indeed any other drink so from now on we are including ice-making facilities in the freezer and a bottle cooler!

Great base for a New Forest holiday

  • 5 of 5

Lilies is a delightful cottage set in a lovely location. It feels secluded and as if you are 'in the country' but a short walk takes you into Lymington town.

The cottage itself is well equipped, clean and well-maintained and the owners provide top notch customer service. Ron even saved us a table on the terrace at the Ship Inn on our first night in town!

The second bedroom is small but we managed fine with an adult-sized teen and a 9 year old sharing so don't let it put you off. The gardens are gorgeous - very secluded and perfect for a glass of wine in the evening sun or a BBQ (which is provided of course!)

Easy access to the forest and the south coast. We would highly recommend:

Pony hack from Burley Villa (15 mins drive) - great service and gentle ponies and we were treated to some close-up wild foals.

Beaulieu - a great day out. Something for everyone - expect to spend the whole day there. And take time to visit the nearby village of Beaulieu which is one of the prettiest we have ever visited.

Mudeford Sandbank - we took the little train to the beach but Ron recommends the ferry from Mudeford. Either way, this is an excellent beach - great views, very picturesque and not overcrowded (even on the hottest day of the holidays).

This is the most amazing cottage I've stayed in. It is so homely, comfortable, warm, quirky and just so nice. Ron was very welcoming on our arrival giving a 10 minute tour of his property including health and safety. I would recommend this property to anyone and I look forward to coming to stay again and soon hopefully.

Fantastic little cottage in a wonderful location.

  • 5 of 5

We were greeted by Ron, the owner, who was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the local area. Ron walked us around the cottage explaining how everything worked and where to mind your head! The cottage was very well equipped and had WiFi and tea, coffee, milk and biscuits! Everywhere was clean, tidy and warm.

Lillies Cottage is ideally located for a short 15 minute walk into Lymington which has some lovely little shops, a great market on Saturday (Superb fresh fish stall) and a lovely marina to stroll around with an ice cream!

At the top of the road, 1 minute walk, is The Monkey House which served AMAZING Sunday roast! Lillies is also well located for walking in The New Forest with lots of different trails nearby.

We would highly recommend Lillies Cottage for an idyllic and peaceful break.

Thank you Ron and Sonja for making our first family holiday so wonderful.

Just Perfect !

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Lilies Cottage, was nothing short of perfect.

An idyllic little dwelling close to the centre of Lymington and the advantage of easy access to the abundant attractions that the New Forrest, Isle of Wight and Bournemouth have to offer.

To describe Lilies Cottage as a holiday let, really understates what it has to offer. We found the property to be a very well appointed and equipped a true home from home.

We made full use of the lovely secluded garden and courtyard areas, on the days when we just wanted to chill out with a cold glass of wine or a beer and a good book.

Our hosts, Ron and Sonia, were extremely helpful and informative about the area in general and provided excellent guidance on where to visit, eat and drink (if you don’t want to cater for yourself in the cottage kitchen).

We were much later arriving than planned at the cottage on our first day and took advantage of the nearest pub, the Monkey Puzzle, just a few minutes walk from the cottage. We found the service and food excellent as well as being good value for money.

We feel confident that Lilies Cottage will not disappoint - we have already booked our second visit.

From the Owner

As our children have moved on we thought it the ideal time to make our move and somewhere close to the sea was top of our list. Touring the South Coast we fell for Lymington straight away - friendly inhabitants and fantastic countryside! We were fortunate indeed then to find our dream cottages near the sea and with the New Forest practically on our doorstep. And, now we are here, so many things to do and places to go without the need to drive.

From the Owner

Even though we're on the edge of a town Lilies / Artillery cottages do have a rural feel about them, probably due to the fantastic gardens and rich wildlife they attract. We now get the best of both worlds, easy access to the countryside and being able to walk into a town which still maintains an old world charm.

  • Notes on accommodation: As Lilies Cottage dates back to the early 1800s it has lots of character and, as you would expect for an old cottage, some low ceilings and a low kitchen doorway. All furniture and fitments are though, full size. So, do enjoy the old with the new! Sorry, no pets are allowed due to the nature of the cottage, its gardens (we encourage lots of wildlife) and pond. Also please note that smoking is not allowed in the cottage. Outside: Lilies Cottage has wonderfully secluded gardens with 2 patios, fish pond, fountain and waterfall. There's a BBQ and secure summerhouse - ideal for storing your bikes and buggies. The gardens lead to secure and private off-road parking on a gravel driveway with room for 2 cars or car and trailer. Utility Room: The walk-in cupboard in the upstairs hallway has an electric oil-filled radiator and doubles as a drying cupboard. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bedding and towels are provided but please bring your own beach towels. Cleaning and change of linen is weekly or on changeover day.
