Overview

About the property

Farmhouse near Beauly, Scottish Highlands, Scotland - Peaceful Quiet Location, Down Long Private Tarmac Drive Off A Quiet Single Track Country Lane

Please Note: Adults only. The house sleeps up to 4 people in 2 bedrooms until Easter 2018, then up to 6 people in 3 bedrooms. The availability calendar is up to date and the prices are correct. If it shows the house is available, it really is! Please note that because of risks to children who may run about, we only accept adults. We are strict about this, better safe than sorry. Sorry, no dogs. Our property is not a conventional farm with machinery and livestock, we run a small boarding stable and there are 5 horses on the land.

If you have any questions, please phone us, we are very happy to talk to you before you book. 01463 741433 from the UK or 0044 1463 741433 from outside the UK. Mobile/cell 07793 045902.

The house is in a quiet glen (valley) about 15 minutes north of Loch Ness and 25 minutes west of Inverness. If you find Drumnadrochit on a map, which is a village on the north shore of Loch Ness, our property is 7 miles due north, near a hamlet called 'Foxhole', the nearest village is Kiltarlity.

House:

Set in the owners 22 acres with their house nearby. Please note that although the house is large, only the rooms shown in the photos are accessible to guests, the remaining 2 bedrooms are not available and closed. The guests bedrooms are on both floors, the front bedroom on the ground floor has a queen size (5ft) bed and a closet and two sets of drawers. There's an en suite bathroom with a shower, basin and toilet, radiator and fan heater. The rear bedroom on the ground floor has two single beds and a set of drawers and a double closet. There's an ensuite bathroom with a whirlpool bath and radiator. The third twin room (available from Easter 2018) is on the upper floor with a shower room across the landing, one metre away, with a shower, basin and toilet, radiator and fan heater. There are two sitting rooms, the ground floor room has two sofas, a TV and DVD player, a desk with chair and coffee tables. The upstairs sitting room has a large sofa and two chairs and a smart TV. The kitchen has a double oven, a microwave oven, a gas hob (cooker top) a large fridge/freezer, a dishwasher and ample cutlery, pots and pans and cookware.

Towels are provided and electricity is included. The utility room has a washing machine, storage cupboards, racks for walking boots or cases, iron & board and a clothes airer. There's a toilet off the utility room. Suitcases may be left in the hall or utility room.

The owners house is totally separate but on the same land. Most of our land is used for horses but we have no horses for guests to ride, however, trekking & riding lessons are available in Drumnadrochit, 9 miles.

We have much wildlife here, many badgers – a neighbour who feeds and photographs them had nine badgers visit one night - and foxes, hares, pine martens, red kites, buzzards, woodpeckers, sparrow hawks and many other birds are seen occasionally. The house is very quiet, being down a long drive off a country lane, all you can hear at night are the owls. There are six other well spaced houses in the hamlet.

There are several places to eat in Beauly, 7 miles, which also has a post office and two small supermarkets plus an antique shop, a bank, a garage and a filling station, hardware shop, pharmacy etc..

The City of Inverness has good facilities, a large theatre and cinema complex, swimming pool, harbour, marinas, cinemas and many supermarkets & shops, plus the Caledonian Canal which leads to Loch Ness also has a marina and an impressive 'stair' of locks. There are two large forests close by and the local roads make pleasant walking or cycling with little traffic. Mountain bikers and walkers have many forests to choose from, as well as the Caledonian Canal towpath and the Great Glen Way; our lane is on the Great Glen Cycle Route. There are many activities in the area apart from sightseeing - walking groups, archaeology groups, skiing in season, fishing, ceilidhs & music – the Tartan Heart Music Festival is held 3 miles away (just out of earshot) and there are several castles and NT properties such as Brodie Castle, Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness and Dunrobin Castle is just over an hour away. We have lived here since 1991 and can suggest many trips and activities to keep you entertained. The spectacular Glen Affric is 35 minutes west by car.

Travelling by car is easy in any direction, the west coast can be reached in about one hour, Fort William is 60 miles, Kyle of Lochalsh about 75 miles, the Spey Valley (Aviemore) 50 miles, the long sandy beaches of the Moray coast 40 to 50 miles. Making a trip to Orkney is possible, even for a day, although an early start is required, but the archeology is worth the trip.

We have 4G mobile (cell) phone reception and the house has broadband. If you need a fast connection, we would suggest bring a 4G 'dongle' or router with you to use with a tablet (iPad) or laptop. You can borrow our 4G router but you will need a 4G data-only SIM card (available from O2 or Vodafone).

Winter: We very occasionally have snowy winters which may make our rural roads and long driveway a little difficult. This is why we generally don't accept guests from just after New Year to the end of March, however, we will consider bookings if the weather and roads are suitable. Please phone for advice if planning to book Christmas or New Year or in the winter months. 01463 741433.

About Cath Hill-Freeman

Our names are Eddie and Cath Freeman, we are retired and live a mostly peaceful life here in the Highlands, where we have been since the 1970's following careers in the Police, Fire Service, and BP for Eddie and the motor trade and local government for Cath. We have our main holidays in the winter - skiing, though the pistes are beginning to look steeper these days and the aches and pains last longer. We enjoy meeting our guests and are pleased to offer help with places to visit.

Cath Hill-Freeman purchased this farmhouse in 1991

Why Cath Hill-Freeman chose Scottish Highlands & Islands

We bought this house shortly after we met, mainly because of the land for the horses and that we thought it the best area in the UK. Eddie had lived in the area since 1978 and Cath had lived near Oban at about the same time. We can't imagine ourselves living where we were brought up, although rural France has its appeal and one day we hope to have a house there when we retire properly.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Having our own land . Some people couldn't imagine driving a few miles for supplies, but you don't find peace in a crowd. It's cooler than other places in the south of the UK, but if it was the same here it would be standing room only! We have some of the best views imaginable in this area and we never tire of it.

Nice home in the Highlands

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed several days in the Highlands of Scotland in this countryside home. The hosts were most gracious and gave us many ideas of things to see and do. The countryside is so beautiful. We especially enjoyed drives in the mountains with the heather in bloom.

We were absolutely thrilled with this beautiful home. It was so well equipped, there was nothing left wanting, very clean and quiet. Cath and Eddie were so kind and helpful with trip advise and took great care of our laundry. Would love to go back.

an excellent cottage set in beautiful country side.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Dularich and found Eddie and Cath very helpful. There were printouts in the cottage with information about the surrounding area and also places further afield and we found those very interesting and helpful in planning our day.

The cottage was a good size and more than ample for our needs. (party of four).

We found Eddie and Cath friendly and available if needed, but also happy to let us get on with our holiday if we wanted, without interruption.

Cath even offered our friend some practical advice on painting, which she gladly accepted and enjoyed immensely.

Yes, all in all, a good weeks stay, and the weather behaved itself, too!! Thank you.

Richard, Sharon, John and Diane.

Comfortable farm house in stunning rural Scotland.

  • 5 of 5

The farm house was spacious, comfortable and well presented - a home away from home. The location was fabulous - very quiet, picturesque and although off the main road was easy to find. The owners are very helpful and friendly - we really appreciated the log fire being lit for us each evening before we returned 'home'. We would highly recommend this property to anyone who wishes to spend time in the Scottish Highlands.

Fabulous property in a peaceful location

  • 4 of 5

Dularich was the perfect place for our holiday in the highlands. The property is quite spacious, very clean throughout and with all facilities as described. The bedrooms were comfortable, linen good quality and both have en suite and the whirlpool bath a bonus! Well equipped kitchen and a comfy lounge area plus lots of local info about the surrounding area. Even though the property was in quite a secluded location, it has good Wi-Fi and internet access. The location was wonderful, very quiet and conducive to a relaxing time. Very much enjoyed watching all the birds around the house. As Cath and Eddie run the farm as a livery, the horses and their owners need to come past the property for access but this wasn't intrusive and it was nice to see the horses up close occasionally. The location of the property provided a good base for touring around the area, the roads are good and didn't take too long a drive to get to all the places we wanted to go. Loch Ness is only 20 minutes away and it only took 45 minutes to be on the Black Isle, Cath and Eddie were very friendly and helpful and provided a lot of useful info about the local area. Their directions to get to the property were very precise so finding it was no problem. I would very much recommend the property to anyone looking for a peaceful base for a holiday in a beautiful location.
