About the property

Cottage in Hay-on-Wye, Powys, Wales - On The Doorstep Of The Black Mountains, Brecon Beacons And The Beautiful River Wye

This charming one bedroomed Victorian cottage lies within five minutes walk from the centre of Hay. Ty Bychan is ideal for anyone seeking a relaxing week/weekend exploring the town and its local eating houses, cafes or for those seeking a more active time using it as a base to explore the mountains and rivers. Ty Bychan (little house) has recently been upgraded to a high standard with a lounge with wood burning stove for those cosy nights in, basket of wood and scuttle of coal provided. This is adequate for two evenings. Upstairs (steepish stairs with a hand rail on the right) large landing, bathroom and bedroom with a comfortable king size bed. Outside there is a small partially covered courtyard where walking boots and wet weather gear can be stored. This area gains access via steep narrow steps to a shared pathway leading to the small garden with seating. Hay on Wye has many amenities including eating houses, cafes pubs, and of course the renowned book shops. The surrounding countryside boasts an area of outstanding beauty offering many outdoor activity opportunities such as canoeing on the River Wye, cycling on the tracks and lanes, mountain biking and walking in the Black mountains and the Brecon Beacons (the owners would gladly advise on any of these pursuits). Either way Ty Bychan will provide you with a warm comfortable environment in which to enjoy stay.

I am sorry but I no longer allow pets. Unfortunately some guests have not complied with my requests when their dogs have stayed.

Please note I do not provide any milk. There is a Spar in the High Street if you forget any provisions. This stays open until 10pm.

About Adele Lowe

I love my sea kayak. Paddling out to off shore islands, camping on remote shores and cooking on open fires is my favorite way to spend time. I have always loved the hills and mountains too. So living in this beautiful area makes me feel very privileged to be able to go out on the hill every day. Our changing weather makes every view very different and special.

There are times when i am in area's where I don't have a signal, so if you have sent me a message and I have not replied this will be the reason. If I have not accepted your booking please wait if you can. I promise to reply asap. The Scottish mountains often prevent my immediate response. I apologise in advance. I hope you love and enjoy staying at Ty Bychan.

Why Adele Lowe chose Powys and Brecon Beacons

It has a nice welcome feeling.

What makes this cottage unique

Lovely little cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a very enjoyable stay at this small but well-laid-out cottage. The multi-fuel burner made the living-room cosy. The kitchen, though compact, had everything we needed to cook a meal. The bedroom was bright and airy with a comfortable bed. The garden area, once accessed up the steep, narrow steps, was a pleasant spot to sit with a drink, enjoy the hill view and listen to birdsong. The location is fantastic – just a few minutes’ walk from the centre of Hay, but only a few miles from the Black Mountains.

Charming cottage in the heart of Hye on Wye

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I and our boxer dog Henry enjoyed a lovely holiday at Ty Bychan. The booking for the cottage was conducted professionally and timely and all details for our arrival were clearly conveyed. Having the heating on for our arrival on a cold Winters afternoon was a great welcome. The cottage had everything we needed and was ideally situated for the fantastic pubs, restaurants and shops in this friendly town. Thank you again for a lovely break.
