Derwent Lea is a lovely detached four-bedroomed house on the edge of sleepy Applethwaite village. Huge picture windows in all rooms make the most magnificent views over the Derwent Valley. Oil-fired central heating keeps it snug any time of year.

Orchard Barn and Derwent Lea are two lovely detached houses on the edge of Applethwaite village. Keswick, with its profusion of pubs, restaurants, boating on Lake Derwentwater, cinema and theatre is just two miles away - and yet Applethwaite is a sleepy little village with just a country lane. You're more likely to meet a hen on it than a lorry. Skiddaw mountain, over 3,000', rises behind the house, while the front, South vista is over the Derwent valley towards the fells of Newlands and Borrowdale. This is walking country, and there are many paths right from the doorstep. But it is also the Adventure capital of England, offering outdoor activities of every kind: biking, climbing, boating, canoeing, dinghy-sailing, horse-riding, even paragliding, can all be hired nearby, or bring your own gear - we have storage. Orchard Barn is ideal for family get-together or groups of friends, and the patio is a natural outdoor gathering place to sit in the sun and soak up the ambience. Parking for up to six cars is available. There is free Wi-Fi, heating, free view TV.

Booking Notes:
We take bookings over the telephone, and can take payment by credit or debit card. Deposits are one-third of the total cost, the rest being due a calendar month before arrival.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is normally Friday in season, but we take any short stay from early November to late March. You are welcome from 3:00 on arrival day, and we ask that you leave by 10:30 on departure day, to leave time for cleaning and change-over.

Notes on accommodation: The large, comfortable lounge has an open fire and free view TV. The dining room seats eight easily and has a separate TV. The big kitchen has all you could need, and seating for four. Upstairs the master bedroom features a king-size bed and three windows to enjoy that view, and there are also another double bedroom, a twin-bedded room, and a room with very sturdy bunks, suitable for adults or kids. There is a bathroom upstairs, and a shower room downstairs. Outside is a pleasant garden and a patio with outdoor furniture, again basking in the south-facing view. There is parking for three cars - more by arrangement. Outside: Both houses have South-facing patios and access to our four-acre field. Both have enclosed gardens where dogs are welcome, and enough outdoor furniture to allow everyone to share a gin and tonic! The feeling of space and freedom is hypnotic, and a summer's evening barbecue is a must.
