East Neuk is a traditional, fisherman's cottage which has been redesigned, renovated and extended to create a unique, contemporary, self-catering, holiday home that sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms. The cottage retains it's traditional character but now has all mod cons. Findhorn is a a perfect, seaside destination for couples and families with a stunning 5 mile sandy beach and sheltered bay.

Why Alison Condie chose Findhorn

My extended family have been holidaying in Findhorn every year since 1964! We started out as 3 families in adjacent caravans and now each branch of the family owns a property in the village. It is a perfect family holiday destination and enjoys a better climate than much of the rest of Scotland. Findhorn is easy to get to but a different world from our city lives - without sacrificing comfort or things to do.

Cottage in Findhorn

It was a nice way to start off our 2 week holiday in the UK at the Findhorn Cottage. We arrived early evening, and everything was as expected. It is a comfortable cottage for a family, with separate sleeping quarters and bathrooms.

Everything we needed in the kitchen was there. It was enjoyable to have the piano to play and board games for entertainment.

We ate at the Kimberley Inn one night, and had great fish and chips.

Alison was attentive to any questions we had, and communication was very good.

An enjoyable cottage, to get away!

Cottage in a charming Scottish village.

Pros: Roomy enough for us five adults. Clean. Free WiFi. Convenient to post office, restaurants.

Cons: It was hard to find. When we got there and found the key, we couldn't t unlock the door after each of us giving it a try. Finally callled a relative back home who is a builder and he told us to pull up in the handle while turning the key, and it opened. Those instructions should have been included. My husband and I drew the upstairs bedroom with twins. It was very hot and we kept hitting our heads on the sloped ceiling, so we didn't t sleep well. The others slept well in their rooms, though.

Owner's Response: Hi, I'm glad you found the cottage clean, spacious enough for your group of 5 adults and well located in the village. As you will have discovered Findhorn is a traditional village of grassy, windy, un-named lanes, where the houses are definitely not in straight lines, not findable by satnav and not numbered in any understandable order. Delivery drivers must hate it! But it's also part of it's charm and why there are directions on my instruction sheet. I'm sorry that you still had difficulty finding it and I will consider adding a map. Having to lift the handle to lock and unlock modern doors in the UK is very common but I will add the fact to my instructions to help future guests who are not familiar with the mechanism. The upstairs twin room appears in the photos on my listing. Children generally love it. Some adult guests have moved the beds so that they are under the full height ceiling, then they don't bang their heads when sitting up. I don't set the room up like that as it doesn't leave much useable floor space, but I will put a note on the notice board to make it clear that guests are welcome to do this. Finally the cottage being too hot is not a complaint I get often (or ever till now) given that we are in the north of Scotland! The heating is under the guests' control and the windows in the bedrooms can be fully opened as can the veluxes on the landing. Thank you very much for your feedback and I hope you enjoy the remainder of your trip within the UK.

We have jut enjoyed an excellent week at East Neuk cottage - a lovely cottage for a small family. Well fitted out and clean and tidy on arrival. We will return again!

Beautiful & Relaxing

Beautiful, well maintained cottage in the heart of the beautiful village of Findhorn. There were 4 (3 adults& a teen) of us plus our dog. The kitchen is well equipped, all rooms are a generous size and there are two lovely bathrooms. We settled in and felt at home straight away, thanks to the owners clear instructions. A short walk on our first day led us to the gorgeous beach & we were very lucky to spot a seal and dolphins, when the tide is out it reveals an expanse of gorgeous sand. We ate at the nearby Kimberley Inn as the other pub didn't allow under 18's after 8pm, had a very nice pub meal. Several trips out to nearby villages/towns to explore the beautiful coastline & a nice wander round the Findhorn Foundation followed by a very nice lunch. Came home very relaxed despite some mixed Scottish weather. Would definitely return.

Gemütlichkeit am Meer

Ein Cottage, in dem wirklich gar nichts fehlt! Bestens ausgestattet, liebevoll eingerichtet und gerade mal fünf Minuten Gehzeit an einen wundervollen Strand. Fünf Erwachsene fanden ausreichend Platz, unser Hund hat sich sehr schnell eingelebt und bereits am nächsten Tag "unser" Haus gegenüber vorbeilaufende Passanten verteidigt...

Man sollte vor der Anreise die Wegbeschreibung sehr sehr genau lesen, denn das Haus liegt nicht direkt an der Wohnstraße sondern praktisch in zweiter Reihe. Bei uns in Deutschland wäre das dann die Nummer 55/1. Leider steht die Hausnummer auf der anderen Seite des Hauses. Am besten die davorliegenden Hausnummern beachten, dann findet man es am schnellsten. Findhorn ist ein heimeliges Fischerdorf, die Findhorn Community und Foundation ein lohnender Besuch. Die beiden Pubs waren immer gut besucht, für Abendmahlzeiten mußte man reservieren. Die Schotten saßen zwar ohne mit der Wimper zu zucken auch im davorliegenden Garten, für uns war es auch mit warmem Pullover und Wollsocken zu frisch. Man sollte den ständigen kalten Wind nicht unterschätzen. Kurze Hosen dürfen getrost daheim bleiben.

An Freundlichkeit waren die Dorfbewohner nicht zu übertreffen, egal ob beim Bäcker ein paar Häuser weiter oder beim kleinen Lebensmittelgeschäft gleich daneben. Man kann dort alles Wichtige kaufen, sogar ein recht gutes Sortiment an Whisky zu moderaten Preisen ist vorhanden.

Die Vermieterin haben wir persönlich nicht kennengelernt, der Mailkontakt aber war gut und sehr bemüht. Darauf achten, dass sie den Keycode per Mail schickt, sonst steht man am Anreisetag vor verschlossener Keybox.

Fazit: für das Wetter kann niemand was - aber so eine lauschige Unterkunft macht vieles wett. Soll es doch regnen!!
