3 Bedroom, 3 Bathroom Property Set In Peaceful Location In Stunning Countryside, a Pleasant 15 Minute Walk From a Picturesque Hill Top Village

The house is built in the style of a traditional bastide and ideal for both relaxing and visiting the area. It enjoys a calm and peaceful location surrounded by stunning Luberon countryside and is set in 2 acres of green oak which offers privacy and natural shade. It is a 5 minute drive and pleasant 15 minute walk to the centre of Bonnieux which has a weekly market, bars, cafes and an excellent choice of restaurants. There is a general store, two bakers, a butcher, a chemist, a number of dress and antiques shops, and several art galleries. The house is on a plateau, Les Claparedes, at a height of around 500m. The countryside around Bonnieux is made up of vineyards and fruit orchards. It is an ideal area for walking, cycling and wine-tasting and you will find colourful and bustling Provencal markets to visit every day of the week. The house is light and spacious and recently built, enjoying high quality insulation which ensures it is cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The downstairs living area is spacious with a beamed ceiling, limestone flagged floor and a traditional Provencal fireplace. There is a dining area and well equipped kitchen with adjoining pantry. The living area has traditional glazed iron doors and it opens onto a shaded main terrace with patio table and chairs.

Beautiful, peaceful, practical - not found better

We loved the house from the moment we arrived. We have stayed in the Luberon many, many times (we have family in the area) and can honestly say this is our favourite rental to date. The house itself is surrounded by green oaks, a little above the village of Bonnieux and high enough to catch summer breezes. Everything about it felt like perfect: simple, comfortable and beautifully thought out design, appliances that were straightforward and effective, a very good sized pool (with no chlorine) and beds we slept very well in.

Felicity, the owner, was a delight to communicate with and the concierge - who came to look after the garden and pool - also a delightful person: I persuaded her to stay and chat over coffee more than once!

I got fit walking down to the boulangerie at the bottom of the village (and back up again), the girls had a great time chilling and swimming, the kitchen was the first one we've found amongst Luberon rentals that was actually a pleasure to cook in, and all in all we can't thank you enough for making our stay so comfortable and easy. A la prochaine!

Very happy memories

We, a couple, spent a very happy fortnight at this new and stylish house. It is very comfortable, well equipped and very relaxing. We loved our walk to and from Bonnieux, a village which has stolen our hearts since we stayed there the first time last year. And the nearby villages like Goult, Lourmarin, Lacoste and Ménerbes are definitely worth a visit.

The pool was wonderful, and very refreshing during the hot summer period. Though the garden is in part still a work in progress it is nevertheless very enjoyable. We spent many happy hours reading on the terrace or elsewhere in the garden. Or simply enjoying the peace and quiet, while sipping a delicious regional wine.

Felicity, the owner was a wonderful host. We did not meet her, but she was always very quick and helpful with her replies. As was Marie, the caretaker. She was very kind and wanting to make sure that we had all we needed. Which we did.

In short, very happy memories!

Stylish and immaculate base

A perfect base for our family including 3 children aged 22,21 & 17. It was as if we were the first visitors;everything was in pristine condition. Full credit to the owners for thinking of everything and the cleaner for ensuring the villa was immaculate despite being towards the end of the season. Lovely large and clean pool with ample furniture. There are other properties in the area but the villa is not overlooked and it was very peaceful. A small amount of road noise at certain times. The proximity to the town was fabulous.. It wonderful to be able to walk to town but the road back is all up hill and whilst we managed it with ease small children might flag. Tip: in high season book restaurants in the area in advance as they get booked up.The only disappointment was the garden which is a work in progress. We still wanted to give the villa a 5 start review because we are very confident that if the garden is developed to the same high standard as the villa then you will have found yourself a gem of a place to stay.

Truly Wonderful!

I can only reiterate what has already been said about this property. Like the previous reviewer, we too have stayed in many other rental properties in France but not one as lovely as this. It combined perfect taste with comfort and quality in the most delightful setting and in walking distance to the breathtakingly beautiful village of Bonnieux. There are plenty of lovely bars and restaurants, a couple of boulangeries and a great charcuterie where we got delicious meats for the bbq. Bonnieux is also ideally located to visit surrounding villages and places of interest. We saw the ochre mines at Roussillon, went kayaking on the crystal clear River Soruge and drank Chateauneuf-du-Pape in Chatueauneuf du Pape! We also enjoyed walking in the Cedar Forest at Bonnieux, just a short distance from the house. It's a cool and shady walk with stunning views over the Luberon. Another great walk is to Lacoste, the picturesque old mountain village. The path takes you through a valley of vineyards and cherry orchards and once there we enjoyed lunch under the wisteria-clad terrace at the Cafe de France looking back across the valley to Bonnieux.

It truly was a wonderful holiday in the loveliest house we've ever had the pleasure of renting. All credit to the owners who have thought of everything.

A great property!

My daughters and I were so fortunate to be one of the first sets of guests to stay at this beautiful property. It was exactly as described - possibly even better than we anticipated. Everything exuded quality - from the crisp bed linen to the John Lewis saucepans. It is clear that the house has been set up as a much loved home, rather than a rental property with just the basics. It was a joy to be somewhere where there was never going to be any doubt about whether there would be a kitchen utensil available!

We managed to do a fair amount of travelling about - Avignon, Aix, Arles, Marseille, L' Isle sur la Sorgue as well as places closer by like Gordes. One of the joys of Bonnieux was that it was so easy to travel to all these places without having to spend hours in the car;and on the days we didn't want to be out and about the pool was a perfect alternative. The garden furniture was placed around the property to ensure a sunny spot to sit in at any time of day. The location is very quiet and perfect for those looking for a restful holiday.

I have rented properties for many years and this was one of the nicest I have stayed in. It was clean, spacious, well equipped and stylish. The owners were very helpful, sending detailed instructions about how to find the property and once there the amount of information available was impressive. They have thought of everything. I would love to return and have no hesitation in recommending the house particularly to adults and teens.

We bought the land in 2009, built the house in 2011 and moved to spend half the year there in 2012. We love it and hope we have created a tranquil and tasteful environment that you will enjoy too.

Activity and Interests

Car: recommended


The Mediterranean coastline is around 1 hour and 30 minutes drive. Cassis has an attractive small harbour with cafes and bars.


There is an airport at Avignon which is approximately 30 mins drive and there are scheduled flights to Marseilles and Nimes, both around 1 hour 15 mins from Bonnieux. The Eurostar service takes you to Avignon TGV station which is 45 mins drive. If you choose to drive through France, Bonnieux is 30 mins from the Avignon Sud turn off on the A7 autoroute. Use of a car is recommended and there is plentiful parking space on the property.


The house is 1 mile from the beautiful village of Bonnieux and within 20 mins of the picturesque hill top villages of Lacoste, Menerbes, Goult, Gordes, Roussillon, Oppede-le-Vieux and Lourmarin. Apt, the nearest town, has supermarkets and a wonderful Saturday market is a distance of 9km, a 15 mins drive. Avignon and Aix en Provence are around 40km, a 45 mins drive from the property. There is a renowned antiques market on Sundays at L'Isle sur la Sorge which is around 30km from Bonnieux.

Further Details:

Bonnieux has a general store, 2 bakers, butcher, chemist and paper shop as well as a number of art galleries and shops selling clothes, jewellery and antiques. There is a garage selling petrol and a post office with ATM. The weekly market is on Friday. The Michelin star Domaine de Capelongue is a 10 minute walk and Le Fournil and L'Arome are also excellent local restaurants. Sites to visit in Bonnieux include the Bakery Museum, an outstanding garden designed by Nicole de Vesian, and a chapel with sculptures by Louise Bourgeois. Nearby is a cedar forest with easy footpaths and superb views and the fascinating Enclos de Bories, a settlement of stone dwellings. Other places of interest include the ancient Roman bridge at Pont Julien, the cliff fort of Buoux and the colourful ocre cliffs at Roussillon. The towns of Avignon and Aix en Provence offer lots to explore.

Changeover Day:
The changeover day is Saturday. The house will be ready at any time after 4pm on your day of arrival. Departure is before 10am.

  • Notes on accommodation: The accommodation is non smoking and no pets are allowed. It is unsuitable for children under 10. Outside: The two acre site is largely wooded with green oak and boasts 2 old stone 'bories'. In front of the house there is an open area with recent planting of box, rosemary and lavender. The main terrace is equipped with dining table, 6 chairs and barbecue; a small terrace outside the downstairs bedroom is equipped with a table and 2 chairs. The terraces are perfect places to watch the sun go down. The large private swimming pool (12 x 5.5m) is set away from the house on a lower level and bordered by trees which provide shade. It is treated with salt to minimise allergies and is a delight to swim in. The terrace by the pool is perfect for sun bathing and there are 6 comfortable pool chairs. There is an superb view of Mont Ventoux at the end of the path near the house. Utility Room: The washing machine and tumble dryer are located in the garage. There is an iron and ironing board. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are provided. There is a weekly cleaning service and change of linen
