Cottage in Kniveton, Nr. Ashbourne, Peak District, Derbyshire Dales, England - Village Location, Close To Carsington Water.

This recently refurbished stone built cottage sleeps up to six people in three bedrooms, two of which have double beds, the third having twin beds. Smaller groups of up to four people can be accommodated with 1 double bedroom locked. Outside is parking for up to three cars and a secluded patio area with table and chairs for al-fresco dining. Owners John & Liz live next door so should be on hand to welcome you when you arrive, show you round and answer any questions. If you need any help during your stay, just come round to us to ask. For those evenings when you don't fancy cooking, the village pub is just 75 yards down the road serving good food and real ales. As an alternative there's another pub just half a mile away, again with a great reputation for food. The bustling market town of Ashbourne, often referred to as "The Gateway to the Peaks" is just a couple of miles away, and has four supermarkets where you can get food - Sainsburys, Waitrose, Co-op and Marks & Spencer Simply Food. There are many small, private shops in the town, ensuring it is not just your "typical" high street, and in Church Street you'll find a selection of around a dozen antique shops, one of Derbyshire's largest collections of this type of shop. A couple of miles in the other direction is Carsington Water where you can find so much to do. There's water sports, sailing, cycle hire, a children's play area, a bird watching centre with several hides, or you can just walk around the reservoir. A full circuit is around 8.5 miles. Obviously Derbyshire's fabulous Peak District is right on your doorstep with so much opportunity to walk, cycle and generally enjoy the wonderful countryside. Within a short drive you can get to Dovedale, possibly the most famous of Derbyshire's dales, but also close by are Milldale, Monsal dale and Lathkill dale. You can walk or cycle along the High Peak Trail and the Tissington Trail, or if you fancy some of Britains finest heritage, then Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Kedlaston Hall and Hardwick Hall are all close by, as is the Derwent Valley Mills, a World Heritage site. For those of you wanting excitement of a different sort, the famous Alton Towers resort is within half an hours drive, perfect for keeping the kids happy or for entertaining the child in you! All this and more is close by to keep you busy for the whole period of your stay. Or you can just chill, relax, and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this beautiful part of England.

John & Liz moved into Kniveton late in 2013 and immediately began to refurbish Upper Bank House to a high standard as a self catering holiday cottage. We live next door so are available to meet and greet, help you settle and answer any questions you may have.

You will be fully independent, but help is at hand if you need it.

This is our only holiday let ensuring it receives our full attention. We are very proud of it and make every effort to ensure the quality on offer to guests remains at a very high standard.

A lovely property

We had a wonderful time in this lovely cottage. It was very well equipped and very clean.The owners who live next door were very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this property.

We can't recommend it enough!

We had a wonderful stay at Upper Bank House, and would definitely return. It is situated in a lovely rural area, which is a great base for walks (long and short) or drives to local towns/attractions. There is a pub a few doors down the road too, which serves food. We didn't sample this, but it certainly smelled good!

There were five of us staying in the cottage (all adults) and it was very comfortable - six would be fine, too. Very comfy beds and bedding. Very clean rooms. Spotless bathroom, with a huge shower.

John and his wife were lovely, and very welcoming, yet left us to do our own thing, which was nice. We were touched to find a welcome gift on the kitchen table when we arrived, including wine and nibbles.

The kitchen is very well equipped, and we managed to easily whip up a roast dinner with all the trimmings, alongside many other meals. The garden is small but lovely, with table and chairs for sunny days.

We had brought our own games with us, however there is an impressive array of books, games and DVDs to choose from in the cottage, if you are stuck indoors or just fancy a night in.

Our only criticism was the fact there is only one bathroom/toilet. This probably wouldn't bother most people, however it always makes me a little bit anxious due to health issues.

Overall, I'd book this cottage again in a heartbeat. Thank you for a great weekend!

We do work very hard to maintain the standard of the cottage, both for cleanliness and its contents. Many guests have commented to us that the kitchen is better equipped with pans, pots, utencils etc than they have at home. The bathroom also draws considerable praise for both the shower and the feature bath. One guest wanted to take the bathroom with them when they left!! We can confirm the food at the pub is excellent, we often eat there ourselves. The chef has won awards and to maintain the standard food isn't served on his day off. We're so glad to hear you'd love to come and stay again, it will be our pleasure to welcome you back here soon. John & Liz.

Lovely well equipped, comfortable and very clean cottage.

We enjoyed to stay at this cottage for three nights. It's in a lovely part of the country with plenty of lovely walks. The pub just down the road (Red Lion) serves lovely meals (and apparently good real ale). My only real disappointment was that I did not realise the cottage was so near the road. It was too hot to sleep with the windows closed and very noisy with them open, so we were unable to get very much sleep. That aside, John and Liz were lovely hosts and made us feel very welcome.

The Peak District is renowned for its beauty and walks so we're glad to hear you found some lovely walks close by. The B road through the village does sometimes get a little busy during the day, especially during peak times, but is generally very quiet at night. We have our bedroom windows open all the time and have no trouble sleeping. I suppose it depends on what you're used to at home if you find the occassional vehicle disturbing. Very nice spacious and comfortable cottage

We enjoyed our stay at this cottage and thought it was decorated and furnished really well. The kitchen was particularly well equipped and the sitting room had plenty of comfortable chairs. As well as being able to eat in the kitchen, there is a separate dining room which is an added bonus. Outside there is a small courtyard garden which provided a safe play area for our small grandson. On the down side, there is just one toilet located in the upstairs bathroom ( which is beautiful!!). It wasn't a problem for us but if you had six people staying it might be. It is also on a busy country road which meant you couldn't leave the windows open at night.

The cottage is located in a village near to Ashbourne. There is a good pub close by, although it seems to stop doing food very early evening ( at least it did on the Sunday we went) and is quite small so you need to book.

Many guests comment that the cottage is better equipped than their own homes! Our local pub is excellent and serves food late Wednesday - Saturday. On Sunday they choose to serve lunch right through the afternoon until early evening when the chef finishes having already done a long, hard shift. The chef is excellent and to maintain standards food is only served when he is there. We agree that due to its popularity booking is essential and we give the phone number of the pub in the facts folder in the cottage. We'll hope to see you again soon, John & Liz.

A delightful and well-equipped house

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this delightful and very well-equipped house. In fact, many things were better than we have at home! The house is spacious and comfortable and looked after with great care by its owners, who could not have been more welcoming and helpful. It is only a short distance from Carsington Water which is a lovely spot for walking, water-sports or picnics. The only slight downside is its proximity to the road, but there is very little traffic at night. Thoroughly recommended!

Wonderful property with all your needs catered for. The location is perfect for cycling and walking.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the cottage. All those essential things were provided; anything from soap to salt and pepper! We made use of the lovely log burner even though it was the end of May, as well as the garden which was a sun trap. The beds and bedrooms were spotless and comfy. We couldn't fault it.

The nearby Carsington Water provided fun watersports and a cycle path all the way round. Ashbourne is only 3 miles away with nice coffee shops, a small market and some independent shops. We also cycled the Tissington Trail which starts here. A great location for this part of the Derbyshire Dales.

Village location in country community. We are Derbyshire people and wished to remain in the county where we enjoy its magnificent scenery. Living in the other half of the cottage ourselves ensures that you enjoy quiet privacy which we know is important to our guests. We are also keen bird watchers - well John is keen, Liz enjoys - and we wanted to be close to Carsington Water which attracts much of interest.

  • Notes on accommodation: We accommodate up to six people, but can offer a small reduction if your group numbers no more than four and only two bedrooms are needed. One of the double rooms can be locked if this is the case. There is parking for up to three cars. Sorry, no pets. Outside: There is parking for up to three cars and a small but attractive patio area with a table and six chairs for warm summer evenings. There is a covered shed where two - three bicycles can be left. It is not secure, but not visible from the road. Utility Room: A separate part of the kitchen, the "wet" area includes the sink unit and drainer, dishwasher and washer dryer. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All towels and linen are included and the property is cleaned every week, or at the end of each visit if sooner. Other: Dining room with table and six comfortable chairs beside a large old feature fireplace. Included is a hostess trolley to help keep food piping hot.
