A very attractive and characterful converted stone barn right in the heart of Burnsall which is one of the most popular villages in the Yorkshire Dales.
There are stunning views from the barn of the village green with the fells beyond. Only 100m metres from the excellent village pub (The Red Lion) and riverside walks which form part of the Dalesway long distance footpath.
Burnsall has a small village shop, cafe and ice-cream kiosk for the essentials.
There is an attractive village green and across the river there is a gravel beach where the family can play in the shallow river and BBQ all day for a nominal charge.
We are a family of five with one well behaved Golden Retriever called Alfie which we occasionally take for summer holidays. We visit Burnsall regularly and love the setting close to amenities but with glorious views, walks and pubs.
Jeremy Smith purchased this barn in 2007
We have owned the Village Barn since Easter 2007 having fallen in love with it on a weekend visit to Burnsall. Burnsall is place that gets under your skin in Spring, Summer Autumn or Winter there is always something to see or do.
The river and shingle beach next to the village green is great fun for the family.
Alfie, the dog, always gets excited when we pack our things for a trip to the barn. The walking in the area is lovely and fairly easy if you stick to the river walks, becoming more challenging if you tackle the hills.
The pubs serve excellent beer and food and are situated on a choice of circular walks ranging from 15 miles to 200m!!
The barn is located in the heart of the village and very close to the pub, shop, cafe and river walks.
It is peaceful and restful with lovely views but at the same time not isolated.
The wood-burner is great when you just want to snuggle up and read a book after a long ramble and pub lunch!!
This is newly on the rental market although we have owned the barn for over 7 years. Many of our friends and family have used it and thoroughly enjoyed their stay.
We have just returned from a fabulous break at Village Barn in Burnsall. The cottage was an ideal base for 4 couples and our dog. The place is really well equipped, clean and felt very homely. We ate at the Red Lion next door the first day but didn't go back as it was a terrible meal - maybe we were just unlucky? After this we walked the river walk to Appletreewick and ate at the New Inn. The meals were fabulous on both visits. We were lucky with the weather and did lots of walking to take in the stunning scenery - the walk to Grassington was fabulous and we had a lovely cream tea to fuel us up for the walk back 😋. I would definitely recommend this place and we will be returning in the future. Thank you Jeremy and family for sharing your home with us.
A superb barn conversion in an idyllic setting.
I would not hesitate to recommend this cottage for a holiday stay. We had different age groups in our party & it suited all. Plenty of crockery, cutlery & glassware in the fully equipped kitchen (not just 8 of everything like some rentals!), comfy couches & beds, dining table large enough to seat everyone & room on the drive to fit 2 cars.

Our 2 families stayed here for the weekend--2 adults with 5 & 8 yr old boys, and 2 more adults with 5 month & 3 yr old girls, whilst our younger sister got married next door in the Red Lion. It was perfect. The close location to the Red Lion meant that we could pop on back during the wedding day to feed the baby, have a quick snack, have a rest. The property was great for our kids too. Lots of games to play with and lots of rooms so that we didn't feel like we were overcrowding each other.
When we arrived, the place was lovely and clean and had all the amenities one could need for a stay--wifi, washing up liquid, tea towels, wood for the wood burners, even bits and bobs in the larder if need be. Being a conversion, this place had a quirky charm and lovely architectural features. The bedrooms, 2 doubles and 2 twins, were perfect for all of us.
We all loved it and it was certainly an added bonus to the fabulous wedding weekend.
We stayed at the barn over Christmas, and we couldn't have asked for a better property, or location. It was perfect!
The barn was fully decorated for the festive period which was greatly appreciated.
The property is fully equipped and very comfortable. We had 5 adults and 2 kids and we didn't get under each others feet. The games room/den was a perfect hideaway for the kids.
The pub is at the bottom of the drive, and the views and countryside outside are beautiful. Although there isn't a great deal in Burnsall (granted everything would have been shut while we were there anyway), it's close to a number of attractions including Bolton Abbey and Skipton Castle. Just being able to get out for a walks, into the surrounding landscape was really special.
I'm so glad we found this property, it made it Christmas. We'd all happily return.
My family and I stayed at the cottage over the Christmas week! It has everything you could ever ask for. There was 6 of us and we were never on top of each other (so 8 would be great too!). The location is perfect with stunning views! I fell in love with Burnsall and can't wait to go back again! Jeremy was very helpful leading up to our stay and answered all our questions and very kindly made recommendations etc! such as the Red Lion for Christmas Day! amazing!! :) Wonderful and comfy beds, lovely big bathroom (only one shower, 2 toilets), I would highly recommend this cottage!
Thanks again!
Eight of us enjoyed a long week-end in this delightful barn conversion. The accomodation was as described and was clean and well equipped with everything we required.
The location, both in terms of the village and the wider surroundings, is lovely and provides something for everyone.
Jeremy, the owner, was very helpful and I wouldn't hesitate to reommend this accomodation or to use it again.
