About the property

Apartment in Whitby, North Yorkshire Moors, England - Right By The Harbour And Amongst The Shops Of Whitby Old Town

From the roof terrace look down on the crowds and venture out for an evening stroll along Church Street to the famous Abbey steps, or down to Tate Sands, below the Abbey, where Dracula's ship was wrecked. When the bell rings go out with a drink to watch the bridge opening and the yachts going out to sea and the fisherman returning with their catch in the evening. If there's a better spot in Whitby to watch the world go by I've yet to find it and I've been visiting for over 50 years!

A light spacious flat with art work on the walls and a cosy dining/ living room. Sorry but not suitable for dogs. Young children will need supervision on the roof terrace. You can see the view of the Swing Bridge from the roof terrace here:

About John Rogers

We are a family of four living in rural France. We love it here but also love returning to Whitby on the North Yorkshire coast.

We hope you will find our property like a 'home from home', with lots of books and dvds!

John Rogers purchased this apartment in 2009

Why John Rogers chose Yorkshire Moors and Coast

I've been coming to Whitby for over 50 years and always wanted a bolthole here, so when we saw that this flat with possibly the best location and view in Whitby was for sale we knew we had to have it!

What makes this apartment unique

Best fish and chips in the world at the Magpie café according to Rick Stein - and us!

Crabbing! The seaside!

The steam train ride over the moors!

Whitby's charm both old and new - the shops, the abbey, the museum, Dracula! Whitby has it all!

Perfect flat at any time of year

  • 5 of 5

We've just enjoyed our third stay at this flat. It is just so relaxing and comfortable yet Whitby is on the doorstep - it's fabulous. It's so easy to pop in and out in between seeing the sights, which are all close by, or sit on the terrace for the best of both worlds. Great.

Perfect location, good value

  • 4 of 5

Very happy with this flat, exactly as the blurb says it is dead centre in whitby, right by the swing bridge, with a grandstand view over the estuary of the River Esk. We came by train but it was only about 7 minutes walk from the station.

Whitby is a great place to stay with lots to see. Plenty of shops and similar outside if that rows your boat. The Captain Cook museum is about 100m away, and its a short walk up the stairs to the Church and Abbey Ruins. For a cuppa or cappucino we'd recommend 'the coffee shop' in Grape Lane right opposite the museum. From the street to the flat is up two flights if stairs, and another to the attic main bedroom, but it's charming when you get there. And you need to bring your own towels.

This would be our first choice, for sure, if coming back to Whitby.

Perfect location topped off by amazing roof terrace.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great couple days here and felt at home from the off. The location was amazing and so handy for everything.

The kids were in awe of the roof terrace.

I would note that if you struggle with mobility it might not be for you (stairs and parking mean walking), but we would not hesitate to return.
