Overview

About the property

Cottage in Wickham Market, Nr. Woodbridge, Suffolk, England - Village Centre, down quiet lane with Pretty Garden, close to Snape, Orford, Woodbridge and Aldeburgh

The cottage has been completely renovated but retains many original features including beams, hand made latches and shaped wooden doors. We have also created a traditional, secluded cottage garden. The interior contains solid oak furniture with Laura Ashley soft furnishings including 100 per cent cotton bedding.

200 yards from the Market Square which hosts a farmers market once a month and from which buses leave to Aldeburgh or Ipswich.

2 minutes walk to a choice of two independent tea rooms, antique shop, local butcher, post office, supermarket and cash point. Also a great choice of restaurants within easy walking distance (fish and chips, Chinese, Indian).

About Mrs Nicola Taylor-grout

Brought up in Suffolk but now living away, busy bringing up three boys.

Mrs Nicola Taylor-grout purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Mrs Nicola Taylor-grout chose Suffolk

My husband and I met each other in this part of Suffolk, we did our 'courting' around this coastline and Suffolk villages. We subsequently moved away and travelled around the country with job moves but always returned for brief visits to the haunts we love. When the opportunity arose to purchase this little gem we jumped at it, although it was in terrible repair and uninhabitable. We have lovingly brought it back to its former glory and hope others will love it also.

What makes this cottage unique

We like our cottage to be a haven in a busy world. Everything is to hand: supermarket, coffee shops, walks. You have no need to go anywhere else but relax. When you do want to explore the coast is only a short drive and of course it's very handy for the Snape Maltings.

Lovely cosy cottage. Great location and great for a couples getaway

  • 5 of 5

Stayed for 2 nights (30th and 31st December) and had a wonderful time.

Lovely decor, good facilities and a good but cosy size. We found the location excellent for all the places we wanted to visit.

As a tall man the upstairs was a bit cramped for height but this wasn't a huge issue. We were initially concerned we would be cold but the provided heaters were actually perfect.

The only improvements we would suggest would maybe be basic supplies of things like butter, condiments and oil etc, although we should really have planned ahead and brought these from home.

We had a great time and would definitely stay again and will recommend to others. Thanks!

Cosy cottage with character, ideal for a romantic get away

  • 5 of 5

A beautifully presented cottage with a touch of home comforts. This is an ideal little get-away with all local amenities a couple of minutes walk away, and quaint neighbouring villages and castles to peruse via car.

The cottage itself was quiet and warm, the sofa and bed very comfortable, one set of linens and towels provided, even blankets for extra comfort.

The kitchen provided everything one may need if not wanting to eat out and a table for two for a cosy dining experience.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time and hope to return.

All communications with the owner were prompt, friendly and informative.

An absolute pleasure.

Exactly as we imagined if not more.

  • 5 of 5

The property was central to the village and its amenities. The cottage contained everything we needed for self catering but with so many good eating places around breakfast was nearly all we managed. (The Greyhound Pub nearby was excellent. Evening booking recommended)The cottage was very clean and the furnishings were first class.

The area has a lot to offer and we took our cycles with us so enjoyed quiet lanes to explore.

We only stayed for 4 nights and wished we had stayed longer and so would love to return...... maybe next year.

There are two English Heritage castles locally at Framlingham and Orford. Orford also has a small quay, large church and tea shops to sit and watch the boats sail by! You can catch the ferry over to Orfordness RSPB reserve and WW2 exploratory munitions site.

Snape of course has the world famous Maltings where concerts are performed throughout the year. However there is a tea shop, arts and crafts centre and gift shop. You can also take a trip down the estuary by boat or walk along the reed dbed paths.

No trip to the Suffolk Coast is complete without a visit Aldeburgh, made famous as the residence of Benjamin Britten, whose house is open to the public during the summer. The long shingle beach, lifeboat station and fish and chip shop are all attractions.

Southwold has a sandy and shingle beach but also boasts a newly renovated pier. The town has independent local shops including the 'amber shop' where you can purchase jewellery made from Amber washed ashore. Adnams have a brewery here and the lighthouse is open to visitors.

For those wanting real peace and quiet the RSPB reserve at Minsmere is within easy reach as is Rendlesham Forest.

Woodbridge is on the River Deben. Visit the Tide Mill, walk along the river, visit the local shops. Across the river is Sutton Hoo, site of the Viking ship find where they now have a very good visitor centre.
