Millstone Cottage, located just outside the beautiful historic town of Bamburgh. It is a detached cottage with 2 good sized bedrooms, a bathroom with over the shower bath, dining kitchen, living room and beautiful conservatory looking onto a well kept secure garden and gently flowing burn. There is private parking at the front of the cottage and there are a few steps both leading into the front and rear of the cottage. It is situated within the rural hamlet of Waren Mill and a car is advised, although public transport is available close by.

Cosy Autumn Retreat

This was our second stay at Millside Cottage and it was just as we remembered it. Our previous visit had been in June, so it was wonderful to be there during November surrounded by all the beautiful Autumn colours. The cottage was so warm and cosy, perfect for snuggling up in the evening. All the facilities are just as described and were spotlessly clean, we wanted for nothing. The fresh flowers and chilled bottle of bubbly in the fridge were lovely.

Our stay coincided with the tail of storm Angus, which provided very dramatic photo opportunities! This was only for one day and was in contrast with the weather for the rest of the week - frosty mornings and warm sunshine. I had never seen a frozen a beach before; so pretty.

The Autumn was the perfect time to visit Cragside Gardens - it was a good thing that the house was closed because we wouldn't have had time to visit! Lunch in the restaurant was excellent too.

We would also highly recommend the Copper Kettle Tea Room in Bamburgh, Grannies Tea Room in Alnwick and the Victoria Hotel, Bamburgh for an early morning post walk 'bacon butty'!

As ever, the week passed far too quickly but we came away with our 'batteries' well and truly recharged. Thank you Gill and family for sharing your wonderful Millstone Cottage.

Just Fabulous!

The cottage is absolutely lovely - fantastically equipped, comfortable, clean, and in the most peaceful location. We did not want for anything and felt as if we had found a little bit of heaven! The cottage is ideally situated to explore Northumberland, in particular, the beautiful beaches at Bamburgh, Low Newton and Embleton Bay, and of course, Lindisfarne and the numerous castles in the area! We loved sitting in the pretty garden overlooking the stream and watching the sheep and pigs in the field opposite. Communication from Gill was excellent and she could not have been more helpful with the information she provided. The flowers and “bubbly” on our arrival were a kind thought – thank you Gill. The cottage is just perfect and we would recommend it to family and friends - we will definitely return.

The perfect holiday home

It was just like living in someone's home, not a holiday let at all. Everything was beautifully presented with all you could want for a most comfortable stay.

The outside was just as described on the website, with a lot of other useful things in the shed.

The peace and quiet in the situation of the cottage was the best thing when you sat outside in the garden ---------- the little brook running alongside the property , the privacy from the field and little wood the other side of the water --------- it was everything the Doctor ordered and more ! I would have no problem in recommending this holiday home to friends and family.

Beautiful cottage in peaceful location.

Our first visit to Northumberland and we couldn't have chosen a more perfect cottage. Everything we needed and more. We booked just 5 days before arriving, but everything was perfect and Gill the owner couldn't have been more helpful. We spent many relaxing hours in the conservatory watching our neighbours over the stream, (3 gorgeous pigs)! One afternoon saw a heron just below the decking and lots of birds in the garden.

Millstone is the perfect location to visit many wonderful places. Bamburgh Castle, Holy Island, Alnwick Castle, Cragside, Howick Hall and the most amazing coastline.

Northumberland has stolen our hearts with its beauty, history and the friendliest people ever. We cannot recommend it and Millstone cottage highly enough.

A thoroughly pleasant and relaxing experience from start to finish.

We can only echo the sentiments of those who have already stayed and left a review. Millstone cottage really is as clean, comfortable and well-maintained as they say and well located for exploring the Northumberland coast. Within easy reach of Bamburgh, Lindisfarne and Alnwick, would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet and relaxing base in the area. Conservatory and garden were a delight and a definite bonus. Excellent provision of local info, maps, etc.

High quality, comfortable cottage in pleasant and quiet location

This cottage is spacious, comfortable and decorated/furnished to a high standard. It is well equipped and has everything you are likely to need. We are a family of 4 including 2 older teenagers and it easily accomodated us all. It's located in a small, quiet hamlet close to Bamburgh and is also very convenient for days out around the fabulous Northumbrian coastline and countryside. Definitely a cottage we'd like to visit again.

We have family connections in Northumberland so this has been an ideal base for visiting family while enjoying a relaxing holiday in the most beautiful surroundings. We love the rural setting but also enjoy being close enough to the surrounding towns and villages where we can appreciate good food, the stunning coastline and also the history which Northumberland is famous for from the story of Grace Darling, to the monks of Lindisfarne and onto the spectacular Bamburgh Castle which you can't fail to be impressed by. We love to walk whether it be along the beach, or further inland to the crags above Belford, St Cuthberts cave or the beautiful Langleeford just outside Wooler and all within a 20 minute drive from our cottage.

Travel:

Our cottage is situated just a couple of miles from the A1. Due to the rural situation of the cottage we would advise use of a car during your stay. Newcastle International Airport is situated just on the outskirts of the city (50 miles). Local train stations include Berwick (20 miles), Chathill 10 miles, limited service at this station, and Alnmouth (16 miles). There is also a ferry terminal based at North Shields which is approximately 50 miles.

Distances:

The beautiful historic town of Bamburgh is only a short drive away, just 2.5 miles, where there is a family butchers, best known for their delicious 'Bamburgh Bangers' and a wide range of eateries. Seahouses which hosts a supermarket, some tasty fish and chip shops and a beautiful harbour is just over 5 miles. The border town of Berwick upon Tweed is 17 miles where there are many supermarkets and a swimming pool. Newcastle is 50 miles further south and a direct drive along the A1.

Further Details:

This area is very popular amongst bird enthusiasts with Budle bay just a 2 minute walk away. There are also crags, which are used regularly by all levels of climbers and which provide spectacular views across the Northumbrian coast and only a 10 minute drive inland from Millstone Cottage. This area is also well known amongst the surfing and sailing community with the beautiful Bamburgh beach just a 5 minute drive away.

Millstone cottage is set within a small hamlet, there is private parking, a beautiful flowing burn which runs past the back garden and from where you can enjoy a spot of fishing and here is where you may also spot the spectacular Kingfisher. We are located on Budle Bay which is a very popular spot for bird watchers and from here you can begin your walk along the coastline which will take you to Bamburgh then onto Seahouses

Outside: There is a large south facing garden to the rear of the property which has a well kept lawn and a large decked area. There is a table with 4 chairs and a charcoal BBQ for your use. There is also a garden hut with buckets, spades, and fishing nets for your use. A beautiful burn runs along the length of the garden. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are provided. The property is cleaned and linen changed once a week on a Saturday Other: Good sized conservatory with a double sofa and 2 single chairs with double doors which open out onto a large decked area with seating and BBQ.
