About Gill

We are Gill and Gordon. Our beautiful cottage has been in our family for the past 19 years and we have enjoyed holidaying every year with our kids at this magical place on the Northumbrian Coast.

Gill purchased this cottage in 1996

Why Gill chose Northumberland

We have family connections in Northumberland so this has been an ideal base for visiting family while enjoying a relaxing holiday in the most beautiful surroundings. We love the rural setting but also enjoy being close enough to the surrounding towns and villages where we can appreciate good food, the stunning coastline and also the history which Northumberland is famous for from the story of Grace Darling, to the monks of Lindisfarne and onto the spectacular Bamburgh Castle which you can't fail to be impressed by. We love to walk whether it be along the beach, or further inland to the crags above Belford, St Cuthberts cave or the beautiful Langleeford just outside Wooler and all within a 20 minute drive from our cottage.

What makes this cottage unique

Millstone cottage is set within a small hamlet, there is private parking, a beautiful flowing burn which runs past the back garden and from where you can enjoy a spot of fishing and here is where you may also spot the spectacular Kingfisher. We are located on Budle Bay which is a very popular spot for bird watchers and from here you can begin your walk along the coastline which will take you to Bamburgh then onto Seahouses

Beautiful cottage...beautiful idyllic location

  • 5 of 5

Could not find any faults at all....apart from me only booking 3 nights...Lovely cottage in a peaceful location...but only minutes from the castle and Seahouses....An ideal base to explore not only the wild Northumberland coast, but also the towns and villages of Northumberland itself...and there are many, most within an easy drive. All in all...a perfect holiday...apart from it being too short....but...won't make that mistake when I book again...Many thanks to Gill, for letting us stay in their beautiful little cottage....Paul and Karen..Formby...Merseyside

A very clean and well kept property deserving of its 5☆. A stay here is recommended.

  • 5 of 5

We were very happy with the bungalow. Everything was well presented, beautifully clean and very comfortable. It is in a good position for visiting many lovely places both on the shore and inland. The bungalow was a peaceful home from home to return to at the end of the day. It is one of three detached bungalows and each bungalow had a designated parking space. This was a sensible idea but alas did not work too well for us during our week's stay. One bungalow has full time residents so there was no problem with their parking. The third bungalow however is a holiday let, as is Millstone Cottage. Unfortunately there were 6 people staying in the other let bungalow. They had 3 cars between them and this made parking very very difficult. Reversing in or out was a difficulty for our bungalow as it is the middle one of the three with the other 2 being at right angles from ours. We may just have been unlucky with the 3 cars and this might not happen generally. This was the only down side. This would not deter us from using this property again. In fact we will go back to the property to explore this area in future years. The residents next door were lovely and able to give good advice of places to visit around Northumberland. All in all a delightful property with every modern appliance available. Staying here was a pleasure to be repeated in coming years.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your lovely review and so glad you enjoyed your stay. So sorry to hear of the parking difficulties, occasionally there are 2 cars next door which doesn't seem to prove a problem but I can imagine 3 could definitely cause a fair few awkward manoeuvres. Hope it didn't dampen the enjoyment of your break in beautiful Northumberland.

Brief stay in Northumberland

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was ideally located for us, being close to Bamburgh and Alnwick. It is beautifully appointed and had everything we needed.

The next-door neighbours are very helpful and welcoming and gave us good advice on local places of interest to visit.

Brilliant place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here over New Year's Eve for a total of 4 nights - we wish we could stay longer.

The cottage is beautiful, spotlessly clean, very warm and comfortable.

The kitchen has everything you need, as does the rest of the cottage. Nearby beaches and surrounding countryside are superb - plenty to do and see or just take it easy.

Fabulous place to stay and we will definitely be back and very sad to be leaving.

Cosy Autumn Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at Millside Cottage and it was just as we remembered it. Our previous visit had been in June, so it was wonderful to be there during November surrounded by all the beautiful Autumn colours. The cottage was so warm and cosy, perfect for snuggling up in the evening. All the facilities are just as described and were spotlessly clean, we wanted for nothing. The fresh flowers and chilled bottle of bubbly in the fridge were lovely.

Our stay coincided with the tail of storm Angus, which provided very dramatic photo opportunities! This was only for one day and was in contrast with the weather for the rest of the week - frosty mornings and warm sunshine. I had never seen a frozen a beach before; so pretty.

The Autumn was the perfect time to visit Cragside Gardens - it was a good thing that the house was closed because we wouldn't have had time to visit! Lunch in the restaurant was excellent too.

We would also highly recommend the Copper Kettle Tea Room in Bamburgh, Grannies Tea Room in Alnwick and the Victoria Hotel, Bamburgh for an early morning post walk 'bacon butty'!

As ever, the week passed far too quickly but we came away with our 'batteries' well and truly recharged. Thank you Gill and family for sharing your wonderful Millstone Cottage.
