Barn in Old Hunstanton, North Norfolk, Norfolk, England - Secluded Location, 10 Minute Walk To Pubs And Shops, A 20 Minute Walk To The Beach
Located in the stunning grounds of Old Hunstanton Hall, a 14th Century mansion whose most famous of visitors included P.G. Wodehouse, this delightful barn conversion is hidden away from the main coastal road and village of Old Hunstanton. Dairy Cottage was built in the 17th Century as a working dairy for the main Hall, but since has been tastefully converted to a high standard into a large family holiday home. The property features a huge kitchen/dining room with a large farmhouse style table that can be extended to seat 12. The Kitchen boasts many original features such as numerous exposed beams and overlooks one of the two fully enclosed gardens. It has particularly high ceilings which along with the large windows give it a wonderful light, airy and spacious feel. It is very well equipped with a large American style fridge freezer, dishwasher, double Belfast sink and a large electric cooking range with 5 gas hobs. All of this makes entertaining friends and family a breeze as well as a very social experience! There is also enormous utility room, featuring a washing machine, tumble dryer and a second Belfast sink (so no excuse not to help with the washing up)! Off this utility room there is a small toilet and wash basin. The living room will comfortably seat 10 people on two lovely four seat sofas and two fantastic wing back chairs. It is the perfect room for settling down in an evening in front of the wood burning stove: Watching a movie on the LED Sony TV with BluRay, playing one of the numerous board games the owners have left for their guest to enjoy or simply relaxing with a glass of wine and a good book! The luxurious master suite boasts a super king (6ft) bed with matching dressing table and large wardrobe complete with drawers for all your clothes. Off this leads the ensuite bathroom which has a shower over the bath. Two further downstairs bedrooms have been tastefully decorated and each has its own character. They both feature zip and link beds that can be made into either king size doubles or twin beds upon request (please give at least 2 weeks’ notice). They both have plenty of storage for clothes in chests of drawers and ample hanging on the hooks and colourfully covered hangers provided. These rooms are lovely and light with large windows looking over the second of the enclosed gardens but also feature blackout blinds for those all important lay ins! Also on the ground floor is a family wet room with a drencher style shower. The final bedroom is upstairs from the kitchen… called the nursery this huge room has no door separating it from the kitchen, although there has been a stair gate fitted, ideal for keeping an ear on the little ones! The room has been decorated in colourful furniture and accessories, making it a room that children will love and enjoy both for playing and sleeping. This room is also a zip and link so can be made up as a double if required. Outside, the rear of the house has two secure gardens perfect for dogs and children. Barbecue and picnic table for alfresco evenings. The house is completely secure from the moat at the rear, but outside the front of the cottage is a beautiful bridge on which you can stand and spot the odd fish and feed the ducks. There is plenty of space in the permissive parkland around Dairy Cottage for children and dogs (on leads) to run around to their hearts content. Just a short walk away is the fantastic coastal village of Old Hunstanton and its many amenities. Old Hunstanton beach is a 20 minute walk from Dairy Cottage, this beautiful wide sandy beach is a hit with all generations and is home to many brightly coloured beach huts! Close to this is the renowned Hunstanton Golf Course for the serious golfers amongst you, and in the other direction a pitch and putt for the amateurs! Old Hunstanton has a well stocked village shop and post office along with several coastal themed shops and a beach front cafe. There are four pubs and restaurants just a 10 minute walk from Dairy Cottage, including The Lodge which has a great bar menu, a children’s play area, beer garden, pool table and also shows all of the sporting fixtures. Opposite The Lodge is The Neptune; a superb Michelin starred restaurant who serve limited dinners; the most delicious treats from the coast, a must for a special occasion (we recommend booking well in advance). If you want to go exploring further along the coast, the nearest ‘Coasthopper’ bus stop is a 7 minute walk away. This will quickly take you right along the coast to Thornham, Brancaster, Burnham Market, Holkham, Wells, Blakeney and beyond! The quintessential coastal town of Hunstanton is a five minute drive or 20 minute walk; here you can find fish and chip shops galore, the Sealife centre, a permanent fair, crazy golf, the Worlds Largest Joke shop, Chinese and Indian takeaways, a deli, a bakery and the all important supermarkets!

About the Owner
My husband and I live one hour away from Dairy Cottage with our three daughters, two dogs, one horse and six chickens!! Our business is based at home so it is lovely to come to the Norfolk Coast to get away from it all!!

Beautiful home in a secluded location
This property really is stunning! It is equipped with everything you could ever want during your stay and is so tastefully furnished, you will never want to leave. We ate twice at The Lodge restaurant which is close by and the food / service was excellent... also had breakfast at The Boathouse café near Hunstanton beach. We took the local bus from Hunstanton to Wells via Burnham Market which was very easy and recommended. Walked on this beach and Holkham... just want to return asap
Beautiful. Worth every penny
The property lived up to the photos and the description is very accurate. It is simply beautiful and a pleasure to come back to after a long day at the beach. The setting is so tranquil, and although there are beautiful old buildings around, the little garden isn't overlooked. We ended up driving to the beach as we had a young child and grandparents with us but it is definitely a walkable distance from old Hunstanton beach.
The beds are really comfortable and we all got good nights sleep. The kitchen is very well equipped, everything we needed was there and there was even a cake tin to help with the birthday we had during our stay. We tried several of the pubs locally for food and they were all very good.
We also hired the beach hut for our stay. It is much bigger than I was expecting and is beatifully decorated and staged, as is the house. It isn't too far from the cafe and toilets which is a bonus.
All in all we had a very enjoyable week and I would definitely recommend it.
A property of excellent standard in a lovely location
This is a lovely house, really well equipped and presented to a very high standard. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay as everything came up to our expectations. It is in a wonderful location so we could enjoy the pretty walled garden for ourselves and were able to explore the surroundings as well - the beaches are amazing. You can walk to the pub which is a great bonus! Sadly the local Michelin starred restaurant was booked up (earliest date offered in September) but there are many great places to eat out very close by - The Orange Tree in particular.
I have already recommended this house to friends and family.
Wonderful Time at Dairy Cottage
Fantastic cottage, fully equipped with absolutely everything you could possibly need. It was immaculately clean and nice touch of welcome bottle of wine and box of choccies.
The location is stunning, with the local birds and wildlife to see daily. Great base to explore North Norfolk. Loved it and will definitely return.
Great cottage tucked away in peaceful hamlet
Dairy Cottage was extremely well equipped, had very comfortable beds and plenty of relaxing room in kitchen and lounge - and the lovely garden with its table and BBQ. We were welcomed with some wine, chocolates and pretty tulips (which lasted the whole week). The owners had given us instructions to get there plus advice about the cottage facilities and suggestions about places to visit. The kitchen is huge and has a great range cooker and a dish washer. The washing and drying facilities in the utility room were efficient and much appreciated. All very clean and attractively maintained.
The furnishings and decor were delightful with lots of quirky items such as a lamp with cows for the base, all of which showed that the owners loved the property. The beds were made up as we requested - and there were lots of cushions!
The main bedroom had plenty of storage but hanging space is limited to hangers in the other bedrooms though there were drawers available. There were games and books available in the living room cupboard, and our grand daughter (and son-in-law) particularly enjoyed the Lego.
We visited Hunstanton (good Tesco!), Old Hunstanton Beach, Holkham Hall and Beach (highly recommended though the cafe is pricey), nature reserves at Holme next the Sea, Burnham Overy Staithe, Blakeney Point (via boat to see seals and shrieking terns), steam train from Holt to Sheringham - great fun - we did not realise you could get off at Weybourne for Sheringham Park so worth doing that, Sandringham - stunning rhodedendrons and grounds plus interesting museum but we did not have time for the house (you need a whole day to take it all in). Great meal at The Lifeboat at Thornham - delightful hotel with a pub atmosphere, very friendly. Good food at the Lodge at Old Hunstanton and also at The Crab Hut in Wells with charming waitresses.
Advice - the beaches can be very windy so make sure you pack some sweaters!
Overall we loved the cottage and the area - did not want to leave and would like to return.
From the Owner
“We think the Norfolk Coast is very special, and where our cottage is situated we are so close to the sea yet in the quiet seclusion of Hunstanton Hall parkland. We love walking our dogs on the wonderful beaches and bridleways and visiting the local pubs and restaurants. There are plenty of other activities such as golfing, bird watching, cycling and swimming or just chill on the beach!!”
