About the Owner

My childhood was full of freedom, sunshine, fresh air, of being near the sea, beaches and big open skies. Having lived in London and Bristol for many years, I would yearn to be back and would be happy to spend time trekking in and out to get those few precious days on or near the coast and return home relaxed and replenished. It has been a long term ambition to be within a stones throw of the beach and the sea and one day I just woke up and thought it's time to make this happen - so, as they say, 'Where there's a will there's a way' and it has proved to be one of the best decisions I've ever made!

We've had a great time and beautiful weather. up and down the cycle path to the beach and Country Park - it's all very easy and relaxed here. Thanks . Rob & Rachel M & family- Ashburton, Devon

Spent a long weekend in this lovely relaxing cottage. Very quiet, comfortable and the snuggliest beds ever! So convenient for shops, beach and Country Park. Can't wait to come again. Pat N - Romsey, Hants

What a fantastically comfortable and charming cottage! Thanks so much for these relaxed and fun days. Wonderful beach walks, sun and garden. Brigi W - West Molesey, Surrey.

We have had a lovely time. Burry Port & Pembrey Country Park are great. The beaches are beautiful - miles of them and hardly any people. Really liked the good quality towels and bedding in the cottage - it makes such a difference. The local people are so friendly - we were made to feel very welcome. Glynys & Clive K - Stroud, Glos.

Great week in Amelia Cottage. the weather has been fab! We have enjoyed the lovely garden and walks on the beaches with the dogs. it has been very relaxing; really impressed with the coastal scenery and Pembrey Country Park. Cottage very well equipped and comfortable - Thankyou. Lawrence-Myers families - Enfield/Darlington.

Lovely week in Wales - great cottage! Even though we picked the worst week for weather this summer we still had a fab time exploring west Wales. Thank you. John & Julia N + family - Reading, Berks.

A really convenient location for shops, beach, cycle path and exploring the area. we found the cottage very comfortable and extremely well equipped and the great garden was a real bonus for us. The beaches all around are fantastic and Tilly (the dog) has made lots of new friends. We found Carmarthen & Tenby well worth a visit... Burry Port offers so much and the cottage is great. Thanks. Mike & Judith C & family - Tavistock, Devon.

What a beautiful cottage, beautiful weather, lovely people. a short ride from many other lovely locations; Caldey Island is like stepping into a filmset, stunning - the most beautiful beaches. Thanks - will come again. Denis E & family - Telford, Shropshire.

Our family had a fantastic time at Amelia. The weather was ideal and the scenery was beautiful. Lots of fantastic walks for the dog and nice places for our parents to visit. The organisation of the house with wet room and bedroom downstairs made it possible for us all to have this holiday. Thankyou very much Denise B & family - Bridgend, Wales

Nice comfortable cottage. good central location for exploring South Wales. Safe garden for the dog. has to be one of the best cottages we have stayed in; thank you. Liz & Julian H, Bletchingdon, Oxon

Amelia Cottage , Burry Port

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was clean , comfortable , warm (particularly appreciated during the periods of inclement weather)and well maintained. The garden too is lovely and would be great for young children and dogs.

Beaches in the immediate location are wonderful and the Country Park at Pembrey offers forest walks and bike rides and other amenaties as an alternative .

Be aware that out of season many places have reduced opening or are closed which can be challenging if you wish to eat out etc.

We would recommend the cottage to anyone wishing to explore this area of Wales.

Comfortable and great location

  • 4 of 5

The property is clean, tidy and well equipped however it does lack a washer/dryer which unfortunately for UK weather you do need. The bathroom is equipped for disabled guests and is excellent. The garden is beautifully kept and is fantastic for long summer days and nights and our dogs and children enjoyed running around. The location of the property is ideal for access to the town and beach, it is a quiete residential area and the locals are all friendly. We enjoyed our stay in Amelia cottage and the hosts kindly left us milk, Welsh cakes and wine which were all greatly appreciated. Although the town has several pubs providing food we found it difficult to get in anywhere, I would recommend you pre book a table to avoid disappointment. The cottage is in a brilliant location for exploring many towns and castles we would recommend Carmarthen Town and Kidwelly castle. We didn't venture much further for beachers as the ones locally are stunning with descent amenities.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review Amber - great to hear you enjoyed your stay - we are looking at the feasibility of adding a washing machine - just a bit tricky at Amelia. It's a busy time of year for the local hostelries and we could certainly do with a few more - The Cornish has a great reputation throughout Carmarthenshire for fresh fish and Whitfords cafe/restaurant has been a massive boost to have at hand - we all have our fingers crossed about the imminent development of the harbour and marina so that provision and choice will be extended to suit. Every year there is more going on in Burry Port - and its wonderful all year round - hope you'll return. Cheers Richard

A lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely 5 days in Amelia Cottage which was highly rated by all members of our party including the dog! The bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom were clean and furnished to a very high standard. The garden is a quiet, pretty sun trap which we made use of every day and very dog friendly which is very important on our wish list when deciding on a holiday. Would not hesitate to recommend the cottage and area to other people and would like to return again. The owner has put a lot of thought and attention to detail into the decor that made the cottage feel like a home from home. The beach was within walking distance and provided a nice bracing walk with the dog.

What a charming little cottage - a brilliant find!

  • 5 of 5

Well what can I say about this beautiful little cottage, other than it's simply amazing, it must be as it’s our second visit - we love it and Burry Port too! The first time we ever stepped inside Amelia Cottage back in October 2015, it gave us that wonderful “homely” feeling which was great! The cottage has everything, bags of character, stunning décor, comfortable furnishings/beds, lovely bedding/towels plus loads of little “touches” which just adds to the cottage’s charm! It also has a large well equipped kitchen/dining room, disabled friendly wet room, downstairs bedroom, a beautiful cozy/snug lounge with a log burner, two further bedrooms upstairs, what more could you ask for! As for the garden/outside area, there’s a sunny patio, a well maintained garden and a pretty summerhouse - just wish it was ours! Furthermore, there’s parking which is a bonus, perfect! This little cottage gets even better as we were allowed to bring our dogs which to us is magical as they both enjoy the beach and what a glorious coastline to do loads of walking! Amelia Cottage is an ideal holiday cottage especially for someone without a car. The town’s only a few minutes away, it has shops, pubs, cafes/restaurants and a lovely harbour/marina. It also has a train station and buses which go to the local towns. Indeed we found the local people of Burry Port very friendly/welcoming which added to the appeal of the town and made our holiday! How we ever came across Amelia Cottage I'll never know but one thing for sure, it was a great find! It’s been a pleasure to rent this little cottage because the standard of care has been amazing and on both occasions, never letting us down! The level of care that Richard provides for everyone that rents this little cottage is superb, even down to the little handwritten welcoming messages, “goodies” on arrival, information packs is brilliant, faultless – thank you! We were very lucky this time, we actually got to meet Richard, what a lovely person! Would I/we recommend Amelia Cottage, certainly, it’s a great place to stay - it has everything and caters for everyone, young/old and disabled. I can't praise this little cottage enough - there isn't anything I can find wrong with it apart from it not being ours! Thank you Richard for allowing us to share “Amelia Cottage”, we hope to be back soon. :)

in one word excellent

  • 5 of 5

first impression was what a beauiful cottage, stepped inside and it felt very cosy and safe, the cottage has all you need, a spacious kitchen / dining area , wifi was a godsend with the young ones and myself, the garden is wonderful with a great summer house / patio and loungers. coming into house the bedrooms are good. wet room is great with powerful shower. beach is approx 10 mins walk away we took dogs every morning and they loved it, the beach is wide and sandy and very clean, great for children and dog owners, the village is small and quite but this adds character to the area, richard adds lots of little touches from directions to place, welcome messages, and even tea, milk and welshcakes on arrival. i would recommend to anyone even those with a wheelchair as the cottage caters for this also. so glad i found this little gem and will be returning many thanks
