Pretty gite in small hamlet, close to La Chartre, with views over the valley

Updated: 10-Oct-2016
Countryside gite close to La Chartre sur le Loir, Pays de la Loire, France - Tranquil Location Next to the Jasnieres Vines

La Petite Grange is set in its own grounds overlooking a lovely valley. It has recently been lovingly renovated to a high standard and provides a comfortable and relaxing environment to enjoy the surrounding countryside and an ideal base from where to explore all the attractions the region has to offer.

It is ideally located in-between Le Mans and Tours and a few minutes away from the lovely villages of Lhomme - the capital of Jasnieres, the local white wine, and La Chartre-sur-le-Loir - famous for its connections to the 24 hour Le Mans race.

The pretty cottage has a relaxing patio area overlooking the enclosed garden and field and valley behind. It's the ideal area in which to unwind whilst enjoying a barbecue and a glass of the local wine.

The owners, Jim (English) and Ophélie (French), live next door and are readily available to provide any assistance, advice or help if you require it.

About the Owner

Jim's a Brit, Ophélie is French and their two daughters are Franglais.

We have been living in France together for 10 years and whilst Ophélie works in Le Mans, Jim works from home, next door to the gîte, so will always be available if any help is ever required.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A lovely gite, having excellent facilities and spotlessly clean. The hosts are very helpful and unobtrusive and do everything possible to make your stay enjoyable.

The cycling is excellent (with a super little cafe on the outskirts of town) and not too hilly. We have been using French gites for many years, and this is undoubtedly one of the best, particularly the outside space and BBQ area - we are looking forward to our return visit. Highly Recommended.

Peaceful location in beautiful countryside. Comfortable gite with private garden for relaxing. Ophelie and Jim could not do enough for their guests, from homemade jam, aperitif and eggs to the offer of bikes to borrow. Plenty of books, mags and DVDs if you want to stay in along with a fully equipped kitchen. La Chartre is close by, which is a lovely town. Hens visit the garden daily, which is a delight. Highly recommend.

  • 5 of 5

Just back from two wonderful weeks in this lovely gite, beautiful surroundings and positioning for visiting towns and cities was brilliant. The gite was spotless and everything was there that you could need.James and Ophelia were so helpful recommending places to go and one night phoning a bar to see if the fooball was on there for us.The garden was lovely, enclosed if you had small children and a bonus the hens would visit several times a day.I would highly recomend this property.

La Petite Grange is a very clean and well equipped gite set in beautiful countryside. Owners Ophélie and Jim made us feel very welcome. Fresh eggs and homemade jam accomplished with a very welcoming Epine which was very nice. I have and would recommend a visit and you will not be disappointed.

Wonderful gite in beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

What a stunning gite! Beautifully restored and refurbished by the owners, Jim & Orphelie. Tastefully furnished, comfortable and spotlessly clean with everything you could possibly need, a real home from home. We had a very laid back week at La Petite Grange after attending MotoGP at Le Mans. It is situated in lovely French countryside with lots to do and see in the surrounding areas and local supermarkets, restaurants and bakeries within a couple of minutes driving distance. Jim & Orphelie were very welcoming providing fresh eggs from their lovely brood, homemade jam and wonderful Epine!! Overall, a highly recommended lovely holiday home.

Excellent stay in well kept secret part of France

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay, and found the 'Loir' a very agreeable 'secret' part of France. The cottage is delightful - and very welcoming to find the wood burner lit, eggs in the kitchen and a bottle of 'Epine' in the fridge. Our two young children enjoyed the garden and the company of the hens and 'Buddy' the (very gentle) dog. We found the local information (on the troglodyte town of Troo, on local walks + shops, the local 'Jasnieres' wine etc) very helpful and had a fine time. Croissants for breakfast within 3 minutes' drive and very good old-fashioned French restaurant (the 'Hotel de France in Le Chartre sur Loir, with interesting Aston Martin connections, within 10, even if your car is a little more humble. Jim and Ophelie were on hand when we had the odd question and otherwise left us to it - Jim also very obligingly re-supplied the 'Epine' when stocks ran low!

A lovely gite in an idyllic location

  • 4 of 5

A very clean well maintained, beautifully presented property. The owners are very friendly and helpful, giving advice on places to visit. The gite also benefits from a large quiet secluded garden which our two daughters enjoyed playing in. It is in a rural location great for getting away from it all.

We would not hesitate to stay again.

From the Owner

We bought this property shortly after we bought our house next door. We realised straight away that it would make the perfect little gîte. We fell in love with the area straight away. The location is great for travelling back to the UK and it has a nice mix of rurality whilst not being too far from the big towns of Tours and Le Mans. It is a peaceful part of France but within easy driving distance of the more popular tourist areas of Normandy, Brittany and the Loire Valley. And that's not to say there aren't plenty of things to see and do locally! The gîte is situated in a very small hamlet and our neighbours are very friendly yet suitably discreet!
