Overview

About the property

Countryside gite close to La Chartre sur le Loir, Pays de la Loire, France - Tranquil Location Next to the Jasnieres Vines

La Petite Grange is set in its own grounds overlooking a lovely valley. It has recently been lovingly renovated to a high standard and provides a comfortable and relaxing environment to enjoy the surrounding countryside and an ideal base from where to explore all the attractions the region has to offer.

It is ideally located in-between Le Mans and Tours and a few minutes away from the lovely villages of Lhomme - the capital of Jasnieres, the local white wine, and La Chartre-sur-le-Loir - famous for its connections to the 24 hour Le Mans race.

The pretty cottage has a relaxing patio area overlooking the enclosed garden and field and valley behind. It's the ideal area in which to unwind whilst enjoying a barbecue and a glass of the local wine.

The owners, Jim (English) and Ophélie (French), live next door and are readily available to provide any assistance, advice or help if you require it.

About James Marchant

Jim's a Brit, Ophélie is French and their two daughters are Franglais.

We have been living in France for 12 years and whilst Ophélie works in Le Mans, Jim works from home, next door to the gîte, so will always be available if any help is ever required.

James Marchant purchased this cottage in 2006

Why James Marchant chose Lhomme

We bought this property shortly after we bought our house next door. We realised straight away that it would make the perfect little gîte.

We fell in love with the area straight away. The location is great for travelling back to the UK and it has a nice mix of rurality whilst not being too far from the big towns of Tours and Le Mans.

It is a peaceful part of France but within easy driving distance of the more popular tourist areas of Normandy, Brittany and the Loire Valley. And that's not to say there aren't plenty of things to see and do locally!

The gîte is situated in a very small hamlet and our neighbours are very friendly yet suitably discreet!

Guestbook comments from the owner

A lovely gite, having excellent facilities and spotlessly clean. The hosts are very helpful and unobtrusive and do everything possible to make your stay enjoyable.

The cycling is excellent (with a super little cafe on the outskirts of town) and not too hilly. We have been using French gites for many years, and this is undoubtedly one of the best, particularly the outside space and BBQ area - we are looking forward to our return visit. Highly Recommended.

La petite grange visit

  • 4 of 5

Had a pleasant week at this gite, very comfortable and well equipped. The weather was a bit variable, cloudy a lot, occasional rain (but quite warm) so we weren't able to use garden facilities very much. Very pretty area, lots of trees and rolling countryside and lots of lovely villages (our favourite was Lavardin with beautiful 900 year old church). Jim and Amelie welcomed us and left some very nice homemade jam, wine, eggs, and milk but sadly we didn't see them to say thank you and goodbye, we had to leave at 7.0 am for ferry home. Thank you anyway !

Fantastic home from home

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful Gite with everything you could ask for for an enjoyable and relaxing vacation. La Petite Grange stands out from the crowd simply because of all the little touch's that make the place so comfortable, from the wine, milk and jam on arrival to the small lavender sprigs on the bedside tables, everything is just about perfect.

Great Gite in Tranquil Setting

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 2 weeks in 2014 and when deciding to go with family for a week this year La Petite Grange was an obvious choice. The quality of the property and welcome hasn't decreased in the 3 years since we last stayed. The property is set near to vineyards and in excellent walking country.

Wonderful Gite. Lovely owners

  • 5 of 5

This gite has everything you could possibly want. The kitchen was well equipped & there were some lovely gifts left by the owners, fresh eggs from their chickens, home made jam and a bottle of Epine.

There is a small garden at the rear of the property that has a table & chairs & two loungers, there is also a BBQ in the garage.

The gite, which is finished to a high standard is simply furnished but is bought to life with some lovely pictures painted by artists known to the family.

The area around the gite is very rural but there are some charming small towns nearby. Le Mans is not too far away & the museum is worth visiting and the old town was a stunning revelation. Several nearby Chateau are worth a visit as well.

We would have no hesitation in recommending this Gite to other visitors to the area.

Perfection in La Petite Grange Lhomme

  • 5 of 5

We had a long weekend here with our dog Fly and it was truly fantastic, a beautiful and extremely well equipped Gite, the owners were perfect hosts and so helpful, we could not have asked for anything more, Jim and Ophélie were brilliant along with their daughters who spent hours with our Border Collie, we can’t thank you all enough. The location is set in a lovely quiet area with small winding country roads to explore and walk, the Gite was very modern and has everything one could need, really high quality and superb with fantastic lawned gardens.

Thank you so much Steve, Sarah and Fly

Special interest holidays:

If wine tasting is of interest to you we have lots of

vineyards right on our doorstep. And we're proud to say

we are affiliated with the Vignobles et Decouvertes

association which represents the local wines and vineyards.

Jasnieres is our local label, a reputable white made from

the chenin grape. It isn't too well known, but rather a well

kept secret. The vines are just a two minute walk away

and there are many friendly winegrowers happy to give you

a tasting just a short drive away.

Coast/Beach:

The lake in Marçon, 10 minutes drive away, has a highly recommended beach, with water slide and lifeguard during summer period. All types of water-sports (non-motorized) are available including boating, yachting, canoeing, fishing. There is a large children's playground and BBQ area next to the beach and also a cafe/restaurant so it is an ideal way to spend a nice family day.

Travel:

Tours Airport is approximately 40 minutes away and the Channel ports are 2.5 (Le Havre) to 4.5 (Calais) hours away. Car hire is available at Tours Airport.
