About the property

House in Gumley, Nr. Market Harborough, Leicestershire, England - Peaceful Location Perfect for Families and Walkers Who Want to Enjoy the Fresh Air

The Gables is set in a dainty English village in the rolling hills of Leicestershire. The house was built in the 1800s and has retained it's character over the years. It is unusually spacious and decorated to tastefully suit its era. The village doesn't even have street lights, and is a wonderful antidote to busy city life. The house has recently had extensive work done to it to bring it up to high standard.

About Madeleine Reeve

Our family lived in The Gables for nearly 10 years before having to return to New Zealand. We adored living in this beautiful part of the country and have many treasured memories in Gumley. We want to share this gorgeous village with those travelling to England and people who just want a break from busy life.

Madeleine Reeve purchased this house in 2006

Why Madeleine Reeve chose Leicestershire

We bought this house after we fell in love with the village and it's surroundings. There are so many things to enjoy here. Our neighbours are very friendly and the village has a great community feel. To walk out the front door and begin your walk in the beautiful countryside is always amazing.

What makes this house unique

We are very close to the village church which dates back to the early 12th century. We have a local pub which you can walk to or you can walk to the Foxton Locks pub across the fields. You can also hire a canal boat at Foxton Locks to view some of the other villages close by.

When arriving, the cottage was sparkling clean, tidy and spacious. The Gables is a fab retreat with spacious rooms and a great place to entertain, fab setting and close to a great pub with homemade food. We are looking to come back later in the year. Would highly recommend this cottage.

Fantastic place to stay with friends

  • 5 of 5

There were 7 of us coming together for the weekend to celebrate a wedding, and we were so glad we used The Gables as our base. One of our party came from Canada so it was lovely to show her a traditional English village!

There's loads of room for everyone in the house - the dining room, sitting room and main bathroom were all highlights!

The photos don't do it justice, it was fab and better than I thought it would be.

A place to come home to.

  • 5 of 5

We used this wonderful place as our base to visit our new twin grandchildren in Leicester. It became much more than a base, it was home. The rest of the family came to stay, the dogs too, and we all had such truly comfortable fun that we found it hard to leave. A quote from our grandson'What a superb place to play hide and seek.' Gumley is now on our list of favourite places, beware,we'll be back!

Very Spacious Property in Beautiful Countryside

  • 4 of 5

We have just returned from the Gables spending New Year with a group of friends. The icing on the cake was the giant Christmas Tree in the Lounge. This is an extremely spacious house with plenty of room for 4 couples. The surrounding country side is beautiful and a walk across the fields to Foxton Locks is well worth a visit with a beautiful pub at the bottom of the locks. The village has just one pub The Bell which I would highly recommend for Sunday Lunch.

Madeleine the owner of the property is extremely helpful.

This property is one of the most well equipped I have visited.
