The Gables is set in a dainty English village in the rolling hills of Leicestershire. The house was built in the 1800s and has retained it's character over the years. It is unusually spacious and decorated to tastefully suit its era. The village doesn't even have street lights, and is a wonderful antidote to busy city life. The house has recently had extensive work done to it to bring it up to high standard.

Our family lived in The Gables for nearly 10 years before having to return to New Zealand. We adored living in this beautiful part of the country and have many treasured memories in Gumley. We want to share this gorgeous village with those travelling to England and people who just want a break from busy life.

A Stunning House in a Gorgeous Location

This house is amazing! The photo's do not do it justice, it is spacious, beautiful and has bags of character. The first floor bedrooms are very spacious and the en-suites are beautiful, as is the main bathroom. The second floor bedrooms are smaller but quirky with slanted ceilings and great views. The ground floor is brilliant, the lounge is like something out of a period drama and at the back of the house is a modern kitchen and dining room and a chill-out area which looks out of the patio doors. The outside area is excellent, it's large, full of character and is on 3 levels leading up to the balcony of one of the bedrooms on the first floor. Myself and 7 friends stayed here for a weekend and it is a very social house, we had a great time together in it. It was close enough to Leicester Racecourse to get a minibus there and back for just £8 each and when the racing was finished we were eager to get back to the Gables. The village is lovely and quiet, and the local pub is very nice with friendly staff and great beer garden. I would recommend this property to anyone.

Lovely location

This home was just right for a family get together over a long weekend. Well equipped and lots of space. We enjoyed a lovely walk to Foxton Locks and the village was very pretty.

Country Holiday Home

Excellent, loved the experience.

We are a family of 4 and recently had the pleasure to stay in this delightful, country house for 4 weeks. The house and surrounding areas are beautiful. The house is full of charm and character and the facilities are exactly as described. As well as the house, the garden is very tastefully set out, quirky and a real sun trap. Gumley is also a very friendly village with good food and reasonable prices at the pub. There are some beautiful views and walks from the house if you want to abandon your car and we would recommend you do. However, there are some other lovely experiences nearby if you want to go slightly further afield; just enjoy the countryside as you go. We truly had a lovely, relaxing time at the Gables. It is the kind of home that puts you in a relaxed holiday mood and would suit almost any situation. We loved it and would certainly go back again.

We bought this house after we fell in love with the village and it's surroundings. There are so many things to enjoy here. Our neighbours are very friendly and the village has a great community feel. To walk out the front door and begin your walk in the beautiful countryside is always amazing.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Restaurant : Gumley Car: recommended

Special interest holidays:

Great for walks, cycling, horse-riding. Gumley is part of the Fernie Hunt area, with regular hunts every weekend in the winter.

Famous Foxton locks are within walking distance across the fields, enjoy the lovely pub there or hire a cancel boat for the day to enjoy the local canals.

Large selection of walking tracks right outside the front door. Enjoy walking to other villages and try out their local pubs. Saddington reservoir is a 10 minutes walk for those who like fishing or walk another 10 minutes to their local pub.

25 mins to Rutland Water for cycling or walking, with beautiful villages en-route, Uppingham and Oakham that have lovely antiques shops and beautiful old buildings.

Warwick Castle is 50 min drive away and Stratford-Upon Avon 55 min drive away.


Easy links via M1 motorway

1 hour train from London St Pancras International and Eurostar with trains leaving every 30 minutes.

10 minutes drive to the closest town of Market Harborough which has the train station.

Luton Airport is 40 minutes train journey from Market Harborough.

East Midlands Airport is 35 minutes train journey.

Airports use Ryanair and Easy Jet flights as well as others.

5 miles to Market Harborough a lovely market town

Market Harborough is the where the joules clothing company is based. It's is a very quaint market town.

Every weekend in the winter months (from November) the local hunt is on and the horses often come through the village right past our house.

We are very close to the village church which dates back to the early 12th century. We have a local pub which you can walk to or you can walk to the Foxton Locks pub across the fields. You can also hire a canal boat at Foxton Locks to view some of the other villages close by.
