Cottage in Stainforth, Nr. Settle, Yorkshire Dales, England - Peaceful, picturesque village near the Three Peaks with numerous walks from the doorstep

Delighted to note that the cottage has 17 returning customers this year, 2017, many of them 'regulars' for many years - many thanks to everyone.

About Mrs Vivienne Mills

Having run my holiday cottage successfully now for 31 years, I have gained many new friends through returning visitors to the cottage.

I am now semi-retired and enjoy living in Stainforth.

Why Mrs Vivienne Mills chose Stainforth

I moved to Stainforth in the Yorkshire Dales 33 years ago and loved the area so much I decided to buy a cottage in the village and offer it as a holiday cottage to holidaymakers so they could appreciate the wonderful scenery and numerous walks in the surrounding countryside.

Stainforth is easily accessible and far enough away from the hustle and bustle of a busy town. It also provides a perfect base for touring the Yorkshire Dales and visiting the Lake District.

Notes on accommodation: Car parking space is on the road in front of the cottage. Pets are very welcome at no extra charge and will love the walks and open countryside with a visit to the local pet friendly pub! A child/dog safety gate is provided, also a fire guard but this is not a fixed guard. Outside: There is a small, paved garden to the front of the cottage with flower beds and wooden bench, and a secure, enclosed paved garden to rear of cottage, with flower beds and wooden garden furniture. The rear garden is safe for pets. Cleaning / Towels / Linen provided All beds have duvets, pillows and throws. Bedlinen, towels and tea-towels are provided free of charge. Other: The cottage feature a loft room with full staircase access - this provides a second sitting room with sofabed (extra sleeping accommodation for 2 people by arrangement only), coffee tables. bedside tables and lamps - it offers TV/DVD/VCR/Freeview

Wet Week

The cottage was first class in every way, for both our two Italian Spinones and my wife and I.

Step out of the cottage cross the road and you have nice walks by the river, about 20-30 minutes walk and you come across The Knights Table for first class eating, morning coffee, lunch and dinner. The cottage is well situated for days out, we recommend going into Skipton and going into the Pie and Mash restaurant (check the web).

The cottage any complaints well possibly just one, crockery, there is to much, we struggled for cupboard space.

The small garden area at the rear of the cottage was, or would have if it had not rained all week, perfect for siting out with a coffee or a glass of wine.

Would we return, after finishing here I am going to look for dates to book again.

A quiet, well-located and well-equipped property

We enjoyed our stay in this cosy property with nice views. The weather was good, meaning that we could make use of the pretty rear patio garden, planted with attractive flowers.

The property provided an excellent base for exploring the numerous walks available in the Southern Dales.

Brilliant beautiful and inviting

A beautiful cottage with everything you need --it was warm and inviting with lots of space, we where a family of 3 with 2 dogs We stayed Easter week and the weather was not bad. Loads of brilliant walks right from the doorstep. Would we return? Yes tomorrow if we could and would stay longer. The reception from Vivienne was lovely and she has a lot of useful knowledge about the surrounding area and walks. Thanks for having us at short notice

Special interest holidays:

The famous Settle/Carlisle railway runs past the village and Ribblehead viaduct is nearby.

Stainforth village is also ideal for walking, with several listed walks from the village itself.

Penyghent, of the 3 Peaks, is approximately 4 miles from Stainforth, and there are 2 waterfalls in the area.

Salmon, sea trout, trout and grayling fishing in the River Ribble are by arrangement in season. Additional fishing nearby at Helwith Bridge.

Stainforth village has a mountain stream running through it with stepping stones to the village green.

Catrigg Force is reached by a footpath out of the Village.

Stainforth has a garage, church, public telephone and a 'pet friendly' pub, the Craven Heifer, with separate dining room and darts/TV room.

The pub serves bar snacks and evening meals.There is an outside seating area beside the beck.

Also very popular is the bar/restaurant The Knights Table at Little Stainforth - this has themed food nights, quiz night, steak night and other organised events - discount card available for cottage guests!

Travel:

On the outskirts of Settle and Giggleswick are the Cheese shop and an 18th century cotton mill housing the Edinburgh Woollen Mill and craft shops. Both have tea shops on site.

Distances:

Giggleswick, approx 3 miles away, lies alongside Settle and is a very picturesque Dales village, home to Giggleswick public school.

The lovely church is centred in the village and a small beck runs through the village.

Further Details:

Settle is a quaint market town in the Yorkshire Dales National Park and hosts the famous Settle/Carlisle railway.

It is in an area of outstanding beauty and is ideal for walking or touring the area.

Amenities include various banks, supermarkets, post office, small shops and a wide variety of places to dine out.

Sports facilities include a swimming pool, bowling green, tennis courts, rugby, football and cricket grounds, children’s playgrounds.

Booking Notes:

A deposit of £50 or £100 per booking is required to make a reservation.
Please note that this is non-returnable and private holiday insurance is recommended to cover any possible cancellations.
Any damage incurred by pets must be paid for by guests.
Sadly, due to recent unreported damage to kitchen worktops, guests must now agree to pay for any damages/breakages including worktops (ample trivets are provided!), flooring, carpets, furniture and electrical goods.

A final invoice together with details of key collection, cottage location etc. will be sent out 5 weeks prior to holiday dates.

Changeover Day:
All prices or booking rates quoted are based on 7 nights stay, Saturday to Saturday, unless otherwise stated or within short break periods.

Cottage is available from 3pm on day of arrival until 11am on departure day.

Notes on prices:
2016 weekly prices range from £400 - £650 and are effective from Easter to October half term holiday, plus Xmas/New Year.

2016 short break prices range from £240 - £360 and are effective from January to Easter, November to Christmas. Short breaks can commence/finish on any day of the week.
