Guestbook comments from the owner

We arrived to find the villa completely spotless and were very impressed with little touches such as the welcome pack and fact that the bathrooms were stocked with hand soaps. The villa has every piece of equipment a holidaymaker may require from hairdryers and air conditioning units in the bedrooms to a toasted sandwich maker in the kitchen and pool toys and table tennis outside. The pool is large and the loungers are the most comfortable we've ever had the pleasure of lounging on! To keep teens happy there is also digital TV and excellent wi-fi.

You may not want to leave the comfort of the villa, however it is only a short stroll into Almedena where the British staff at El Poco and Brodies Steakhouse are friendly and willing to give local advice. Taxis are easily booked if you want to venture further afield into Luz or Lagos.

Thanks Trisha for a friendly booking process and the pleasure of staying at Serena.

Cheers

Excellent break at Villa Serena

  • 5 of 5

A lovely stay at a well maintained and clean property, everything was as described in the listing, instructions were accurate and comprehensive and enabled us to find our bearings quickly and easily . Views were stunning from the Villa, the village of Almadena was quaint and boasted bars, shops and restaurants - within a short drive are the beeches, supermarkets and golf. Owner provided excellent customer service with deposits and keys etc., we would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting this area of Portugal. Steve & Irene Dickman

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic two week stay in this lovely villa along with my 2 grandchildren daughter and Son in law, was thought of for us and the children. The rooms were all immaculate and spacious, the outside area was stunning and the pool was a perfect size and temperature we had the use of lots of different equipment both inside and out, the owners have catered for everything you could possibly need we would not hesitate it returning to the villa. The only thing I would say is that the photos online don't do this gorgeous villa justice

A Guest wrote: In the village there is also a Portugese cafe where you can get coffees, snacks and 1 Euro bottles of cold beer. There is also a small Welsh bar, another snack bar, Broadies steak and pizza house and El Poco - a bar owned by an English couple called Les and Jackie. Les and his wife were extremely helpful throughout our stay, they gave us a taxi contact who we used every day and were pretty much available 24/7 (you might need to pre-book on weekends as they get v busy). The taxis are also very cheap - around 8-9 Euros to Luz, which between 6 of us was good value. El Poco also does food, infact Les kindly cooked us fresh mussels when we told him we were a bit peckish. Les's wife Jackie also kindly took us to the fish market one Saturday morning for us to get fresh fish for a barbeque. There is also a Monday night quiz which we even managed to win a bottle of wine in. The only thing bad to say about Les is his choice of shirts! I think he wears them in an ironic way though, as in "doesn't this really bright flowery shirt look great"?

Twice we ate at Broadies. The second time we had a boozy lunch and the pizzas etc were very good. The best meal we had out was at O Celerio, across the busy road. The food is fantastic, it is fairly pricey but you do get to drink out of a ginormous brandy glass at the end of your meal. And the waiters are a good laugh, if at first a bit miserable.

Before we travelled we were in two minds about hiring a car. In the end we didn't due to the price it would have been for a car for six. A car would be beneficial for a family if you are staying at Vila Serena but you can easily get by without one. Luz, Lagos and Burgau are worth visting and you get either get a taxi or the local bus.

I've stayed in a few holiday villas and cottages, and Vila Serena is far and away the best. Almadena is fairly quiet but for a small village it has plenty of bars/shops/cafes.
