About the property

Cosy cottage for a couple with private garden and plunge pool in Pouzolles, Nr. Pezenas, Herault, Languedoc

One bedroom cottage with bright and spacious living area and open plan kitchen. The garden provides extra living space with outdoor dining, sun loungers and a plunge pool (The plunge pool is actually a jacuzzi and can be heated but in summer is best enjoyed with a book and a glass of rosé).

The house is small but has everything you need for a relaxing holiday:

In the bedroom a very comfortable bed, good quality bed linen, plenty of wardrobe space and shutters to keep the sun out for a good lie-in.

In the living room a speaker system so you can hook up your ipod or MP3, comfortable armchair and couch and good speed WiFi.

In the kitchen all you need to cook with the fabulous local produce - dishwasher, oven, 4 ring vitroceramic hob, microwave, small fridge (+ a bar fridge in the laundry), toaster, kettle. The gas barbeque is half plancha and half griddle.

The bathroom has a shower over the bath, wc and handbasin.

In a lively village with a bakery, cafe / restaurant and a weekly village meal in summer, there is lots going on if you want to leave the cocoon! Everyone who comes here says they feel immediately at home. It's perfect for those who love nature, there are lots of wonderful walks or cycles starting from the front door.

From October to April the wood stove gives a lovely cosy atmosphere and great heat.

The house is opposite the village distillery and during the harvest - and this can continue into October - there are tractors and trailers arriving and discharging the "marc" (what is left after making wine). The garden is still completely private but this means there is noise and some agricultural smells.

About Kerry Latchford

I have been living in Pouzolles for 8 years now and it's the best move I have ever made! Having lived in big cities - Dublin, London, Sydney, Melbourne - since finishing college the move to a small village in the South of France was strange at first but I couldn't go back to a city now. I walk my dog in the vines every day, see the seasons change, learn more and more about wine and the vines, enjoy seafood lunches at Bouzigues and Gruissan, swim in lakes and rivers and most of all, what still gives me a huge buzz, is being able to eat lunch outside in February! Now married to a lovely Frenchman we couldn't leave Pouzolles so we bought another house in the village!

Kerry Latchford purchased this cottage in 2009

Why Kerry Latchford chose Pouzolles

I moved to the South of France from Australia and drew a circle around Montpellier to start my search for somewhere to live. I discovered Pezenas and searched for properties around this area with a garden - not easy to find. I finally found this cottage and fell instantly in love!

I did it up a bit - inside loo, wood stove, double glazing, garden makeover - and lived here very happily for 3 years. I then bought another larger house in the same village!

What makes this cottage unique

The garden is the main reason I bought this house and the main reason people love it. The house is cute and cosy and welcoming but the garden is really special. It's private, green, has plenty of space but mainly just has a great feel... you'll see.

Lovely character cottage, recently renovated - ideal for two people with a dog!

  • 5 of 5

The house has a lovely little sunny courtyard garden, which is completely enclosed and very private - completely dog safe! The property is ideally situated for exploring the area: Pezenas and Beziers plus all the surrounding hill towns are within easy reach, as is the coast if you fancy a day at the beach. The village has a small convenience store, bakers and tabac/press and also a lively cafe which serves good food. Lovely trails through the vines are a two minute stroll from the back gate and are great for walks and bike rides. The owner is happy to arrange wine tours and offer advice if you are in need of any! We had a lovely 4 weeks here and will return.

The nearest town is Pézenas, 15 minutes drive away, reknowned for its narrow streets, full of medieval history. It has supermarkets, antiques shops, and a big saturday market.

Further Details:

Pouzolles is a lively village with a cafe / restaurant which serves decent food daily throughout Summer. The pizza van and oyster man come once a week, and fruit & veg and meat market is on twice a week. There is also a bakery, small grocers and tabac. The park with boules court offers a playground for children and hosts the Brasucade every Friday night in July and August. Bicycles can be hired in the village and you can enjoy wonderful walks in the vines. The village is also home to 3 wineries where you can go for tastings.

In the surrounding villages there are good restaurants, including one in nearby Magalas which must be booked well in advance. Rivers and lakes, Mediterranean beaches, the Languedoc National Park, kayaking on the River Orb, visiting medieval villages, browsing the antiques shops of Pezenas, local markets, village festivals... there are so many things to do in this area.

5 min from Roujan, a slightly larger town with supermarket, petrol station, cash machine, chemist, post office, live music bar, organic cafe and a couple of restaurants.
