Farmhouse in Gartmore, Stirlingshire, Central Scotland - Peaceful Rural Location

The Byre at Back Borland holiday cottages. Situated in the fantastic location of the Trossachs National Park, these beautifully renovated 18th-century barn conversions, accessed via a rough track, lie in a peaceful location offering breathtaking views over Ben Lomond and the Menteith Hills. Gartmore is the perfect setting for those who love outdoor pursuits, with hundreds of kilometres of forest track easily accessible. Back Borland has two large fields, both with a stream running through them, in which guests are welcome to take children and/or dogs. The ‘endless’ swimming-pool provides optimal swimming conditions for a single swimmer and the current can be adjusted to a preferred level of difficulty. Even without the current, it still makes a lovely sized pool in which children can swim and have fun.

Please note that Back Borland is accessible by a farm track that may not be suitable for some vehicles with particularly low ground clearance e.g. sports cars etc..

Notes on accommodation: Accessed by a rough farm track; please note that vehicles with a low ground clearance may struggle. Outside: Bespoke back garden area, BBQ available. Heated 'endless' swimming pool (16' x 10') and hot tub with fabulous views, shared with just one other cottage, each having 4 hours per day private use, as well as plenty of '1st come, 1st served' time. Utility Room: Washing machine and tumble drier available in adjacent garage Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bed linen and towels supplied. Please bring extra towels if you are intending to use the leisure facilities.

perfect family getaway house

8 of my family had an amazing long weekend in this fabulous home. It is extremely spacious and plenty of privacy for multiple couples sharing.

The house is gorgeous and is kitted out with a brilliant wood burner and even better outdoor hot-tub with epic views.

We went on various different walks each with incredible viewpoints. Everybody had a fantastic time. I highly recommend.

The owner Rosie is extremely nice to deal with.

Lovely cottage - very well set up and great hot tub

Lovely cottage we would've liked to stay longer, the hot tub and pool were a huge hit with the kids and Rosie and Dave were very helpful. The set up was great for our large extended family, with plenty of room. The only issue was the poor condition of the track up there - lots of potholes and sharp stones, (we sustained 2 punctures) but we had a lot of rain so the track might not always be so bad.

My husband and I spent 4 nights at The Byre with the intention being to hunker down, enjoy some peace and quiet, and make use of the pool and hot tub. We enjoyed every minute. We didn't go exploring the area but it was certainly beautiful on the drive there, and there are many outdoorsy activities nearby if that's what you want to do.

Rosie met us when we arrived and gave us a quick tour, a run down of the very reasonable house rules, and then a demo of how to work the pool and hot tub. The accommodation was lovely and clean, comfortable and warm. The kitchen was really well equipped (and spotless) which is a huge bonus if, like us, you plan to just cook for yourselves rather than go out to eat. We use the wood burning stove every day, and it was great to be able to rotate it depending on where we were sat.

There were no guests at Rosie's other property so we had use of the pool and hot tub as much as we wanted really, from 9am to 9pm. Our days tended to be swim in the morning, relax by the wood burning stove in the afternoon, then enjoy the hot tub in the evening. Whilst the night air was really pretty nippy for heading out in our swimwear, it meant clear skies and the most amazing star gazing... don't think I've ever seen the sky at night so beautiful. Shooting stars and all!

The track up to the property is as described. We were in a regular estate car and managed perfectly fine just by taking it slow and steady. It certainly wouldn't put us off going back, which is precisely what we are planning to do. Off to check availability for another stay... :)

Fantastic Byre, beautiful location and excellent facilities.

Stayed for four nights in mid October, two sets of parents, four girls and one cocker spaniel, had a great time. Condition, decor, facilities are excellent. Kids especially loved the swimming pool and hot tub. Great central location for sightseeing, walks, hill climbing, and lots lots more.

We had a fantastic week-end to celebrate my wife`s birthday, everyone from 6 to 60 had a ball and the hosts Dave and Rosie made us very welcome, nothing was too much trouble from our arrival to departure, and we will definitely return.

Perfect peace

The silence at night was pure heaven, haven't slept so peacefully in years, the Byre was ideal for six adults with all having their own space.

The thing that loses the full five stars is the road in,4x4 advisable. Loved the log burner and hot tub regardless of weather, scenery up the glen ,well you really have to see it.

Hosts always to hand and helpful , perfect.
