Apartment in Les Houches, Nr. Chamonix, Haute Savoie, Rhone-Alpes, France - Great For Couples And Families In Both Summer And Winter. Sleeps 4/6 (2 Bedrooms)

The apartment is in the heart of Les Houches with restaurants, bars, boulangerie, supermarkets all within 5 minutes walk. Ski and mountain equipment shops are within a stones throw and a choice of ski schools also on the doorstep. The village of Les Houches has retained its Alpine charm being quieter than its busy neighbour Chamonix, with a pretty church and a market every Monday morning, boulangerie, local bars, restaurants and supermarkets. If you do desire the bright lights of Chamonix for either skiing or apres ski, the bus stops directly outside the apartment and also runs throughout the summer. The apartment is beautifully appointed with modern features throughout and was built with traditional wood and stone from the valley. French doors from the main bedroom and the lounge open out onto a large balcony offering beautiful views of Mont Blanc and the valley. The apartment also has its own secure underground parking space and a private ski locker. It is on the first floor and is easily accessible having a lift which is almost directly opposite the front door.

Myself, Aidan our 3 children Daniel, Ailish and James have always enjoyed our outdoors type holidays in France. Having busy jobs in England it has always been important to us to find time to get away and enjoy outdoor activities together. Now that the children are away at University it is even more important to us to enjoy this time together whenever we can. We have always loved France and have always dreamed of owning our own little 'slice' of this beautiful country. We are delighted to have found this apartment in such a lovely part of France and have already been able to feel relaxed as soon as we approach Les Houches.

Perfect base for Summer in the mountains

Lovely, comfortable, clean, well-appointed apartment. Excellent instructions/directions from the owner. Everything we needed. Amazing views and wonderful balcony to gaze up at the mountains and watch the world go by. Incredibly convenient for the whole Chamonix-Mont Blanc Valley. A great base in winter for skiing, but perfect for Summer too. So many activities, things to see and do. The Kitsch Inn still a favourite, and a cool glass of Grimbergen Ambree in Le Spot Bar. Would also recommend Le Delice further up in Les Houches. Chamonix - spoilt for choice. Great fromagerie and boulangerie just next door. Two perfectly good supermarkets in the village centre. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay, even with two teenagers in tow.

Wonderful location, brilliant views & lots to do!

I just spent a lovely week with four friends in this cosy apartment at the end of July. There are many varied hiking trails in the area with breathtaking views- I would particularly recommend walking up to Bellevue opposite the apartment- there are restaurants open in the summer (and cable cars so you don't have to walk back down!)

There are a range of bars and restaurants within walking distance of the apartment- I would also recommend the Kitsch Inn in Les Houches, check out the specials!

Chamonix is great for a day out (the sports centre has a great outside pool) and as it was only a cheap 15min bus ride away, Chamonix is also very accessible for dinner and drinks in the evening.

The apartment itself was in excellent condition, everything was very clean, well maintained and easy to use - we sometimes managed to cook, even after all the hiking! The owner, Stephanie, provided great customer service and was very informative and helpful, everything was very easy- overall a brilliant week- I would definitely recommend! Thank you!

We have been visiting the Chamonix area for skiing holidays for the past 10 years and have always dreamed of owning our own property in France but could never decide where. During a family skiing holiday at Easter in 2013 we visited Les Houches just outside Chamonix and instantly knew that this was the place for us. Les Houches is a charming French village with its traditional array of bars and bistros and it nestles at the foot of the mountains which provide a playground for enjoyment in both winter and summer. Chamonix is only a short drive away for a more lively experience and for more activities. It is easy to get to by road(dual carriageway all the way from Calais) and Geneva airport is only 1 hours drive away.

Activity and Interests

Love activity holidays? Then think no further Les Houches has much to offer - within the village you can book white water rafting, canoeing, via ferrata, climbing, parapenting, mountain biking and if you still have energy there is enough hiking to keep you going for ever! When you do need to chill out there are some amazing lakes to swim in and relax around with the amazing Mont Blanc as your backdrop.

Travel:

Les Houches is only 1 hour from Geneva airport,

Car hire is not essential especially in the winter as the local bus service can transport you all around the valley. We would probably recommend a car for the summer as you may wish to visit further afield - Italy is only 10 mins away.

Driving from Calais takes around a 8 hour drive and the roads are excellent - motorway or dual carriageway the whole journey.

Aiguille de Midi, the world's highest cable car and starting point for the Vallee Blanche: 10 minutes

Ski areas outside the Chamonix valley (via car or bus):

Megeve and St Gervais: 20 minutes

Combloux: 20 minutes

Courmayeur, Italy: 30 minutes

Praz sur Arly: 40 minutes

Flaine and the Grands Massifs: 45 minutes

Les Gets and the Portes du Soleil: 45 minutes

Trois Vallee: 1 hour 30 minutes

Verbier, Switzerland: 1 hour 30 minutes

Further Details:

Shops situated close to the apartment building are a delicatessen which also sells basics like milk and juice, plus wonderful ready made French cuisine for those nights you don't feel like cooking! The ESF ski school is also situated next door so booking lessons couldn't be easier! Inter sport for hiring of ski and mountain equipment is just over the road.

The local boulangerie/patisserie is only a 1 minute walk away - so croissants for breakfast are a must!

There is a supermarket 5 minutes walk away and you will find a bank and cash point on the way.

Chamonix is busier in the summer than the winter!

Activities are very popular and include hill walking and hiking,

mountain biking, glacier trekking, white water activities, rock and indoor climbing, riding, high wire activities, tennis plus much more.

Many of the organised activities such as white water rafting can be booked through companies who have offices within Les Houches. Many also offer whole weeks of organised activities especially for children. The apartment offers you a wonderful place to rest after a busy day exploring and a well positioned balcony for you to enjoy the views and watch the world go by!

Apartment Kandahar is in an ideal situation with the Bellevue lift literally across the road. The apartment has its own underground parking space and also a ski locker, so within 10 minutes of finishing breakfast you can be in the lift and on your way up to enjoy your day. Our apartment has one of the larger balconies in the building so it is easy to dine outside on a summers evening or to enjoy reading and relaxing after a days walking in the mountains with the beautiful backdrop of Mont Blanc. The apartment is equipped for preparing a big feast or you can take advantage of the restaurants which are a few minutes walk away. A boulangerie and a fromagerie are a few doors away and directly underneath is a delicatessen. Five minutes walk up the road is a Carrefour supermarket.
