About the Owner

I live in Feock, Cornwall and own and rent out two delightful three bedroom cottages, in St Keverne on the Lizard Penninsula and in the equally popular north coast village of St Agnes. Having a young family, we ensure that the cottages are practical and easy for families to come to as we understand the pressures of travelling with children! They both have high chairs / travel cots for your use as well as separate rooms for teenagers so that everyone can have a bit of personal space. Lovely gardens with decking also.

Had some lovely sunny beach days and found lots to do when the weather was not so kind. This is a great base to explore the area.

Lovely Cottage

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was warm and welcoming had everything you could need for a comfortable stay. Great base for touring Cornwall and situated in a lovely village. Have already looked into returning next year.

Nice cottage but tired looking and lacking attention to detail.

  • 2 of 5

On arriving at the property we were disappointed to find a cottage that felt rather neglected. The garden was tatty and a trough of weeds welcomed us at the front door. The whole place needed a coat of paint and some of the kitchen utensils were very poor. Having said that, the beds were comfortable. The shower worked well but the gap between the bottom of the screen and the bath meant the floor flooded every time. The bathroom window was jammed open which wasn't good on a cold night. In our opinion, this cottage was nowhere near the standard of a cottage we stayed in at Boscastle which cost a lot less. Would we go again? No.

Owner's Response: Sorry you posted a negative review without contacting me or leaving a note, housekeeping must have missed the broken handle on the bathroom window, which has now been fixed, not sure how someone managed to snap off a secure double glazed window handle. Re. painting, we have had extensive painting done every season which we will continue to do, it is a stone/cob cottage so does require regular upkeep. Re. price, St Agnes is a very popular village with so much life and the cottage is wonderfully situated, of course you can always find cheaper. Thank you for letting me know that you feel some kitchen utensils and shower screen may need dealing with which will also be looked at carefully and done promptly. When I went round yesterday the garden had been done and was looking great, apologies for the empty 150 year old stone trough, we will ensure we plant something pretty in it, we have a great gardener. Best regards, Cath

Well equipped, clean house.

  • 4 of 5

Everything we needed was at the house.Clean and comfortable. If there were 6 adults staying,it could be a bit of a squeeze.Enclosed gardens suitable for children and pets.

Needed a car to get to the beach.

Riding stables a few yards down the road.

Nearest shops in St Agnes.I think a car would probably be needed ,if you were shopping there.Would recommend'Taste' restaurant is n St Agnes and local bakery.

We had a lovely, sunny holiday and would return.

On arrival at the cottage on a rainy day, we found nothing welcoming at all, it smelt musty and damp. No coal for the fire, no logs for the burner, although we were a little early, there was no heating on, and two smoke alarms were faulty. After ringing the owner, these items were rectified. Later on we found the bed linen and towels felt damp, and flies and moths were emerging in the bedrooms. We felt we could not stay, and left early the next day. Contacting the owner would of been fruitless. It ruined our Christmas holiday.

Owner's Response: From the email you sent me, I am so sorry to hear that you were ill and left 5am the next morning to return straight home for Christmas, and I am sorry that you felt you didn't want to stay and speak to me about the cottage the next morning. I met the elderly parents on arrival, I had not been in to finish off as I had been held up, and as they had left with the key as they arrived a little early, I waited for them to return. I had logs, coal and kindling, chocolates and spare batteries for the smoke alarm with me which I put in there. They kept saying that they had never spent a Christmas away from home before. I then went back to the shops and fetched them newspapers of their choice, so that they could use these with the fire. I explained that the heating had only been off for two days and put it on at once. We have had very mild weather down here. The cottage heats up very quickly once the heating is on. They were going out for the evening so I assume the heating would have been on for quite a few hours before their return. Also I explained that there is a positive pressure ventilation unit installed that pumps fresh filtered air into the house 24/7, also the windows are opened regularly to assist with airing the place. I inspected the house it was very clean, if we had missed a fly somewhere then sincere apologies. We look after the place and had had extensive internal repainting done after the peak summer weeks to keep it tip top. It is an 1880's cottage with stone and cob walls, so it does require a level of maintenance. Finally there is no possibility that the linen and towels were damp they must have just felt cold, they were thoroughly tumble dried and ironed. It was an extremely wet day, and I understand that once you feel ill nothing will change your mind. I am very sorry that you didn't stay as planned and that your family didn't join you, and you missed a St Agnes Christmas.
