The first floor has a sitting area, dining area and corner kitchen giving onto a small south-facing terrace overlooking the village church and a fountain. The second floor consists of an oak-beamed bedroom with a small ensuite bathroom. The previous owners, a Parisian couple of writers and editors, who used the apartment as a weekend retreat, sold it to to the current owners fully and comfortably furnished with a mixture of antiques, art pieces, bric-à-brac and a lot of books. There is a comfortable modern bed, a satellite TV and an audio cassette player with a large collection of taped music. The kitchen has a refrigerator/freezer, two electric cooking rings, a counter-top oven and a good supply of kitchen equipment, cutlery and china. The bathroom, while small, has a modern shower and recently-renovated plumbing. On the ground floor is a small private laundry room with a washing machine and clothes dryer. This picturesque little house provides comfortable, quiet accommodation for two in the very heart of Lourmarin, one of the prettiest and liveliest villages in Provence.

About the Owner

About the owners: We've been living in the Luberon for.....so many years. Twenty-four to be exact. In fact, our daughter who is just about that age now was born here. So was our son, Pierre, who is now 6'3" and 18 years old. Anyway, we love the life we have in Lourmarin. We eat very well, drink good wine almost every day and we've made lots of wonderful friends from all over the world running our rental business here.

We fell in love with Lourmarin more than twenty-five years ago, and have lived here since then. We started looking for suitable properties to rent out, so that other people could discover for themselves what a great village this is - popular with visitors, and retaining its Provencal soul. Lourmarin has become quite chic, and offers lots of opportunity for eating out, tasting wine, buying clothes and art, and at the same time it remains the same friendly, welcoming place it has always been.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

The nearest beaches are in Cassis or Marseille, about an hour away. You can also drive up to the Lac de Sainte Croix and the Lac d'Esparron, towards the Alps, in about the same amount of time (and see a lot of lavender on the way).

Travel:

We advise all our guests to rent a car in order to enjoy all that the area has to offer, particularly the small hilltop villages.. The public transport system (bus from Avignon or Aix) is slow and there are only two buses a day in either direction. Marseille Provence airport is 50 minutes, as is Avignon TGV station. Aix TGV is 40 minutes away. Nimes airport is about 75 minutes.

Distances:

We are 40 minutes from Aix-en-Provence, 45 minutes from St Rémy de Provence, and an hour from Arles or Avignon.

Further Details:

There are at least fifteen restaurants in Lourmarin itself, as well as quite a few very good clothes shops and art galleries. Lourmarin's Friday morning market is becoming justifiably world-famous, and from May to October there is an evening farmers' market on Tuesdays with a bar and cookery demonstrations by local chefs. We are very well-placed for exploring the villages of the Luberon - Roussillon, Gordes and Ménerbes, for hiking in the Luberon hills, for visiting the extraordinary Fontaine de Vaucluse, or riding white horses in the Camargue.

Fees No additional mandatory fees

Booking Notes:
We ask for a 50% deposit at the time of booking, with the balance due a month before arrival. Most of our guests pay through Paypal, but we can accept Euro? US dollar and GB pound cheques or wire transfers. Our prices are all inclusive.

Changeover Day:
Like most rentals in Europe, we work within a Saturday-to-Saturday booking schedule, but we are sometimes prepared to consider a shorter stay either beginning or ending on a Saturday (minimum 3 nights).

Notes on prices:
Please contact us for long-term rates. Our prices include all utilities, and we do not ask for a security deposit.

Most of our guests pay through Paypal, using their credit card. We ask for a 50% deposit at the time of booking, and the balance to follow a month before the beginning of the rental.

The Petite Maison has all the advantages of being in the centre of the village, with easy access on foot to boulangeries, épiceries, restaurants and cafés. At the same time it's a little haven of tranquillity, tucked away on the square in front of the church opposite one of the village fountains. Inside, the ancient oak beams and irregular walls show just how old it is, and yet it is very comfortable.

  • Description of sleeping capacity: Sleeps 2 (1 Bedroom) Notes on bedrooms: Upper floor bed room with comfortable queen-size bed (160cm)and ensuite bathroom. A folding bed or a cot for baby can be placed here on request. The TV (satellite) is up here. There is a desk, and plenty of books.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: This is a very old house, with a lot of charm and some quirks (ie ceiling height in some places). It appeals to those who want to be somewhere private and quiet, and yet in the heart of a lively village with many amenities. Outside: Our guests love sipping wine on the little terrace, and watching the Lourmarin world go by. Utility Room: There is a washing machine and a dryer, which are shared with our other village apartment, Le Loft. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen and towels are included, and our cleaning lady Marlène comes once a week to clean and change the linen. Other: There is a small, south-facing terrace, overlooking the square, with a table and two chairs. It's elevated, and therefore private, but a great place for people-watching.
