About Diana Ghezzi

I am 65 years old and of half Swedish and half English birth. Now happily married to an Italian and we have two grown-up sons, Nicolo and Guido. My husband and I live in the main villa on a wine and olive oil estate which has belonged to my husband's family for over 400 years, and the villa we offer to you is one of the original farm houses on this estate. We are very much "hands on" and try to give guests the maximum help and comfort possible. The area is beautiful, and private, and yet within a few minutes of main routes to a large number of wonderful cities in Tuscany, principally of course Florence.

Why Diana Ghezzi chose Scandicci

This property is part of a wine and olive oil growing estate near to Florence in Tuscany. The estate has belonged to the same family since Renaissance times and this farmhouse was originally a farm workers cottage - now restored to provide a cosy and comfortable holiday home without losing its original character and charm. Pisa airport is 45 mins by car, Florence airport 30 mins by car and Florence centre is easily accessible for day trips by tramway from nearby Scandicci.

What makes this farmhouse unique

The farmhouse is 15 kms from Florence and the nearest tram stop is 10 mins away by car. The surrounding countryside is totally unspoilt, peaceful and beautiful, and yet there is easy access to all main autostrada routes.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We had a wonderful stay with a group of friends. The villas are located in the tranquil Tuscan hillside. The views are so beautiful and it is so relaxing. The hosts are very focused on their guests enjoying I Lami and surrounding areas providing information and suggestions for excursions and restaurants.

This is my 5th visit to I Lami. I have stayed in 3 of the residences on the compound. Each one has it's own personality with all the amenities to make your stay comfortable. The hostess takes great pride in what she presents thinking about every detail that one may need.

Minocqua4Us, Janesville, Wisconsin

My Sister, Mom and I met a friend from Germany at the I Lami Estate in September of 2012 for a week. We stayed on one of the original farmhouses on the estate which was where the farm families used to live. The house was charming and well appointed for our group of 4, and had an outdoor covered veranda off the kitchen, with a lovely tuscan view

Wonderful country villa in the Tuscan Hills

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our 5-day stay in Diana's villa. This property is an actual farmhouse with all the charm of an old mansion, but with all the modern amenities to make your stay very comfortable. The house itself is very spacious with a proper living room and a large kitchen with a dining table in the middle and equipped with everything you would need should you want to cook some meals there (as we did). The view from the house is incredible and the pool was very useful as we were here during a heatwave in August. Diana is a very gracious and caring host, which made our experience of staying here a pleasure. Florence is very easily accessible thanks to the Tramvia nearby. Be sure to visit San Gimignano and Siena nearby to get a taste of gorgeous medieval towns of Tuscany. Highly recommended!!!

Owner's Response: I am so very glad you enjoyed your holiday here and thank you for writing such a very complimentary and informative review. You had a taste of a true Italian summer, a hot one - and a taste too of the genuine Italian way of life in our precious little corner of Tuscany.! We try so hard to keep it that way and yet to give guests all the modern day comforts that they wish for. I do hope you will come back one day for a little longer - so very much to see!

Paradise in Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

The villa was lovely. It was typically Italian in style and design so that it was always cool inside when the temperature started to rise outside. The owner, Diana, was fantastic. Nothing was too much bother and she called in to make sure we had every assistance and guidance that she could offer. The location was also very good - 15 km from Florence, 1 hour from Pisa and 1 hour from Sienna. We had a tremendous holiday and would have no hesitation returning or recommending this property to others. Five stars from my family.

Owner's Response: It was lovely for me to read your review, thank you, and I am so really happy that you enjoyed your holiday here. A dip in to Italian life and culture, with, I hope, a home away from home to return to. That is what the villa is meant to be. It is so wonderful to meet new and varied people from all over the world. You were the best of guests, time ran away too short, but I do hope you return one day. Thank you for your five stars - I give five stars to you and your family too!

Charming Tuscan cottage

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in the Farmhouse for 5 nights in June 2016. The cottage is rustic, but has all needs. It is a great place to escape the frenzy of Italian big cities, but close enough to get into Florence easily. Downstairs is the living room, kitchen, small bedroom with bath and another full bath. First floor does not have A/C. On the second floor is a bedroom with en suite full bath and a second bedroom. Upstairs rooms are individual A/C. Diana was lovely to work with and checked in on us during the stay to make sure we had everything we needed. I could definitely spend more time here and hope I get to some day.

Super holiday property!

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely lovely week at Diana and Gianfranco's villa. Diana was the perfect host and was very keen to make sure that everything was perfect for us, although she had no need to was!!

The property is a lovely thick-walled stone house, with plenty of character, very comfortable furnishings and beds, and lots and lots of space. The kitchen and master bedrooms are particularly spacious. We are a family of five, with three big teenage boys, and it was perfect for us.

We had everything we needed, equipment-wise, and Diana even dropped some mosquito spray off for us. They provided plenty of information about what to see and visit in the local area.

The pool was an absolute delight especially as we were staying during this year's heatwave, and it was always crystal clear and clean.

The property is on a hill, in a very small hamlet of old farmhouses and is in a stunningly beautiful setting, with acres of olive trees and vineyards. The peaceful beauty was just what we needed.

We found the location to be just right for exploring the local Tuscan countryside, as well as visiting Siena, Pisa, and the smaller hillside towns. Visiting Florence was very easy as the tram terminus is only a 20 minute drive away with free parking, and the tram service is cheap and efficient.

In summary, we are very thankful to Diana and Gianfranco for letting us stay in their property and allowing us to have such a lovely holiday!!

lovely quiet countryside

  • 5 of 5

A really pleasant location, quiet beautiful countryside and local villages providing all we needed and yet a very short drive over the hill to the tram station meant we were 20 mins from Florence. Many other places of interest a short drive away. Lovely clean farmhouse, crystal clear pool (which we shared with a handful of other pleasant guests and a good WiFi service, thank goodness, as we had a teenager with us. Only thing missing if you're taking children is a DVD player. As adults we were happy to sit in the private garden, drinking Chianti, eating local cheeses and looking at the view. Bliss. Thank you to our charming hosts Diana and Gianfranco who were attentive and helpful when we needed it.

fantastic in every way

  • 5 of 5

the warm and caring welcome from the hosts provided the tone for the whole holiday. We felt privileged to be their guests on their beautiful estate. The setting is beautiful. The house was absolutely perfect for our family to relax and swim and relax again. Easy to get into Florence and good road links to Pisa, Lucca etc.etc. Great bread and cakes in the village. We have recommended it to so many people without reservation.

Car: necessary

Albeit that the cottage is immersed in full countryside in the centre of a wine and olive oil growing estate, Florence is within very easy reach going by car to the terminal stop of the tramway (10 mins) where there is free parking and then taking the tram in to the centre of Florence which takes a further 20 minutes. Trams leave every five minutes. There are many places of historical interest within an hour's drive from the cottage, including Siena, Lucca, San Gimignano and Pisa. Nearby Cerbaia and Ginestra provide all facilities for food shopping, banks, chemists and Post Offices, and Montelupo (10 kms) has an excellent supermarket for bulk shopping. In the old town centre of Montelupo there is also an interesting Museum exhibiting examples of the characteristic ceramic work that has been produced there since Etruscan times. The famous wine producing region of Chianti with its villas and charming small towns is only half an hour away and the nearest beach is approx 50 minutes away on the coast near to Pisa and Livorno. Going a little further north by autostrada you arrive to Forte dei Marmi in approx one hour and a quarter.

Florence airport (Vespucci) is 26 kms away by car.

Pisa airport (Galileo) is 66 kms by car.

A car is essential.

The nearest village of S. Vincenzo a Torri is 2 kms away.

Cerbaia and Ginestra are 5 kms approx.

Florence is 16 kms and it is 10 kms to the nearest tram stop for the tramway that goes directly to the centre of Florence.

Siena is 73 kms by car.

Further Details: There are several nearby restaurants serving typical Tuscan fare, with a choice from pizzas to the more sophisticated. The nearest restaurant, which is on the same estate as the cottage, is less than a kilometre away and serves local game as a speciality. There are several lovely walks in the unspoilt countryside, and it is an ideal place for those who wish to paint or to relax in every way.
