Fabulous Stone Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Private Garden + River Frontage

Overview

Property

Updated: 12-Jun-2016
Cottage in Pontsian, Nr. New Quay, Ceredigion, Wales - Quiet Village Location, Ideal Base To Explore Beaches, Countryside, Walking, Cycling And Fishing

The property Aberglasne is located on the edge of the village of Pontsian and directly on the banks of the River Clettwr. The cottage was built just over 100 years ago and is a traditional stone/slate Welsh cottage. Aberglasne is built on three levels and has been renovated over recent years to provide modern living standards but at the same time it retains its traditional charm. The cottage has a fantastic private garden with the river running through. The position of the cottage is in a dell and has views over the hillsides. There is off road parking for up to three cars and a village shop for food, drinks and papers is just a short walk from the front door. Away from the hustle and bustle of town life and set in a rural location it is an ideal base to either enjoy in its own right or travel a short distance by car to one of the many local sandy beaches. The nearest village pub is 1 mile along the lane and can be walked to in about 15 minutes.

Top Traveller Review

About the Owner

My wife is a senior NHS hospital manager in the West Midlands and I work as the Business Development Director for a leading UK machine tool company. Aberglasne provides the perfect antidote to today's hectic business life and the stress's of working at a large busy hospital. We are both keen gardeners, my wife is a photographer and animal lover. We purchased Aberglasne in June 2010 as a quiet retreat from our busy day jobs.

Beautiful relaxing comfortable retreat

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our one week stay in this peaceful, wonderfully located, very well kept, spacious and cosy house with a garden straight out of a picture book, so beautifully laid out with the river running by. We, an English-Austrian family of four living in Austria with two nearly grown-up children were fully rewarded with this lovely house as a base for seeing the beauty of Wales. The Owner being extremely helpful and attentive completed the holiday pleasure. Great shop in short walking distance with a cash point, good restaurants within close reach, many attractions in near distance. I definitely would recommend this property to everybody who wants a perfect base for a relaxing holiday! Rate 10 out of 10!

Lovely cosy cottage in a peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is so lovely & cosy, but at the same time there is plenty of room. We are a family of 4 with two teenage children but it never felt like we were on top of each other. We had a lovely two weeks here. Its in a peaceful location but not too far from shops, restaurants & beaches. The cottage was clean and very well equipped and the garden is so pretty with the river running along the bottom. Great garden for hide-and-seek! The owner was always available by email for any problems or queries we had. It is just lovely and I would definitely recommend it to family & friends, and I think we will even be going back ourselves.

Peaceful, tranquil, and comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property is very comfortable, well equipped and in a wonderful spot with the river and beautiful garden.

We are a family of 5 and it worked perfectly for us. Spacious and clearly well thought out and cared for.

Top marks!

Lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a perfect week at this lovely cottage. Such a beautiful location, not too far from all the fantastic beaches along the Ceredigion coastline. The cottage has plenty of character but also all the mod cons. A lovely big garden with the river made for relaxing evenings. A great place to star gaze too. Absolutely loved it, 10/10.

Location

From the Owner

The cottage is the perfect balance of quietness and seclusion but without the remoteness. I have been holidaying in this area of Wales for over forty years, originally with my family whereupon I spent some of the best remembered holidays of my life fishing the River Teifi for salmon and sea trout with my late father. The village of Pontsian is ideal for either quiet holidays letting the world go by sitting next to the river that runs through the garden, or a base to enjoy the local amenities such as fishing, canoeing, walking, cycling, boat trips with fine dining a few miles down the road.

Activity and Interests

Special interest holidays:

For star gazers the sky over Aberglasne on a clear night is wonderful as the area is one of the least light polluted areas in the UK, we have often witnessed the Milky Way and more stars than you can imagine while sitting in the garden with just the noise of the river in the background.

Coast/Beach:

The cottage is approximately 15 minutes drive from the coast and located inland from New Quay, Aberporth and Aberaeron. From New Quay there are regular summer boat trips around Cardigan Bay to see the dolphins. There is an amazing choice of beaches in the area with the sandy ones being the most popular with family groups of all ages. Aberaeron is a favourite destination about 20 minutes away with its harbour, boats, shops and huge choice of restaurants .

Travel:

The nearest train station is Camarthen, or alternatively Aberyswyth, local public transport is available to Llandysul. Please note that public transport to Pontsian is limited, but there are plenty of local taxi companies.

Distances:

Aberglasne is located on the edge of the village of Pontsian with the nearest market town of Llandysul which is a quick 5 mile drive from the cottage. The closest beach is New Quay which is just over 20 minutes drive, with access to main more sandy beaches just a few minutes further. The cottage is 1 mile from the major A475 which means getting around to Lampeter, Camarthen or further afield to Tenby is relatively easy.

Further Details:

Local village shop for food, drinks and daily papers is 200 yards from cottage

Local market town of LLandysul about 5 miles from cottage has supermarket, chemist, petrol garage, bank and small specialist shops.

Nearest county town is Carmarthen which has a very modern shopping centre, supermarkets, antique shops, designer clothes shops, cinema and show ground. It also has a train station, coach station and good public transport connections to LLandysul.

We have all modern day conveniences close by with a well-stocked village shop just a few minutes’ walk from the front door. The local pub is a mile along the lane and for groceries and essentials such as supermarket, banks, chemist and doctors LLandysul is quick 5 mile drive away.
