Village shops, bar and restaurants are a 2 minute stroll from the gite. Soak up the beautiful weather, blue skies and famous French cuisine and acres of manicured vineyards with hundreds of local Minervois, Corbieres and Fitou wines to try.

The river Cesse runs through the village and becomes a natural swimming pool in summer, with a lifeguard on duty. Bize has all amenities including café, bar, restaurants, shops and medical services and hosts the fabulous Olive Festival in July.

Travel 5 minutes to the World Heritage Site of the Canal Du Midi, and 15 minutes to the historical city of Minerve. The Roman city of Narbonne is 12 miles away and it's only 30 miles west to the medieval city of Carcassonne. Beziers is 20 minutes away and hosts the famous Feria de Béziers, centred around bullfighting. Every August, a million visitors are attracted to the five-day event. The stunning city of Barcelona is less than 3 hours drive door-to-door. Relax on the Mediterranean beaches, 35 minutes to the south of Bize Minervois. The gite is only 5 minutes drive from the Canal du Midi and a short 2 minute stroll to village shops, bar, restaurants.

Bize is located in a lovely area of vineyards and orchards and is just 21 km from Narbonne, 33kms from Beziers and 48kms from Carcassonne. The nearest beach resorts are a just 30-minute drive away. The Canal du Midi is just 2kms away at Le Somail. This is an ideal base for exploring this part of the Languedoc whether it be by car, bicycle, or on foot.

The village has most amenities - a boulangerie for your morning croissants and bread, a grocers, a pharmacy, a post office, restaurants and bar.

There is horse-riding, tennis, boules and a children's playground in nearby villages. Cycles can be rented at the nearby village of Ginestas. Bize has a natural swimming pool in the river which also has a lifeguard during the summer months. Most water sports and swimming from the beaches can be enjoyed at the coastal resorts of Narbonne-Plage, Saint Pierre la Mer and Gruissan. Narbonne has a large leisure centre with a swimming pool, ice rink and ten-pin bowling.

There is an abundance of attractions in this area - it's hard to know where to start. But a visit to this area would not be complete without a trip to the medieval city of Carcassonne, the lively and attractive town of Narbonne, the Canal du Midi, Minerve, the beach resorts of Gruissan and Narbonne-Plage, the vineyards of the Minervois and Corbieres, the abbeys at Fontfroide and Lagrasse and the Cathar Castles. Children and adults alike will enjoy a day at the African Nature Reserve at Sigean where you can see over 3000 species of animals in close-to-nature surroundings.

Markets: The markets locally are colourful and full of lovely, local, seasonal produce as well as wine, herbs, basket ware, jewellery and more! Narbonne has a market on Thursday and Sunday mornings alongside the Canal de la Robine. It also has a fantastic indoor food market in 'Les Halles' open every morning. More locally there's a market in Olonzac on a Tuesday morning and St Chinian on a Sunday morning which is also a picturesque drive up and over the nearby hills. There is also a small market in Bize on a Wednesday morning.

By Car - Bize Minervois is situated 15 minutes to the north of Narbonne and 50 minutes to the east of Carcassonne, just off the D5 and near Le Somail. I am extremely proud of my Visitors Book which is in the gite for all to see and if any special requirements are needed before your visit am happy to assist.

With the glorious weather in the South of France and being in the quaint little village of Bize it is indeed a very enjoyable way to spend the summer.

“A Gem of a Gite”

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013 for a stay in June 2013

I almost want to keep this property to myself - it is so good!! The gite is charming especially if, like us, you like quiet, peaceful surroundings. It has a delightful large patio with 2 mulberry trees so you can choose shade or sun. There is a built in cheminiere BBQ and comfortable patio table and chairs. The bed is SO comfortable, the 'rain' shower a delight and there is free wifi and English TV channels. It was wonderful to come back after a day out to a dip in the pool which was an amazing 80F+ despite being heated only by the air.

“Special place”

5 of 5 starsReviewed September 15, 2012 for a stay in August 2012

Petite Oleandre Maison was really lovely. Karen was a most considerate hostess. There were many little touches designed to make our stay easy and comfortable. The cottage was spotlessly clean and I detected Karen has very high standards.

Great Gite, location and hospitality

  • 5 of 5

The Gite is hidden down a small lane but close enough for a 5 min stroll into the village for morning croissants. Quiet location although close enough to other properties to feel part of the community. The Gite was spotless, nicely decorated and well equipped. Brilliant hospitality of Karen and David made it a special stay.

A fantastic stay at Le Petite Oleandre

  • 5 of 5

We had a perfect stay at Le Petite Oleandre and a welcome pack supplied by Karen & David (wine beer butter milk jam & marmalade was such a lovely surprise.

The Gite was spotless and had everything you needed Karen and David were on hand if you needed to ask anything without being intrusive.

The village was only a few minutes walk and we ate out quite a few times but 10/10 to Chez Jean-Marc. if you just wanted beer or wine then cafe de la promenade are very friendly and welcoming the pool was a godsend after days out sightseeing and after a swim if you want shade then the breeze house where Terry sat while I sunbathed was amazing.

The large patio was ideal as the patio table is in the shade under two large trees while the rest of the patio got the sunshine .

We definitely will go back again to this amazing place.

An excellent place to stay in the Minervois area

  • 5 of 5

We love the village of Bize Minervois and in the Petite Oliandre we found an excellent place to stay. The living room/kitchen, bathroom and bedroom were all good. The shady terrace was very pleasant for eating or just sitting out. The pool was welcome at the end of a hot afternoon and was big enough to swim in. The location was secluded but only a short walk from the village centre to buy croissants for breakfast. There's a good choice of places to eat within walking and short driving distance.

Karen and David were welcome and informative hosts without being intrusive.

We thoroughly enjoyed our two weeks at the gite.

Excellent gite and fantastic hosts

  • 5 of 5

We so enjoyed our time at this excellent gite which was spotless, comfortable and tastefully decorated. We loved the swimming pool and the terrace where we enjoyed a couple of BBQs. Our hosts, Karen and David, were so friendly, kind and welcoming. The village of Bize-Minervois was perfect - charming, idyllic and tranquil. We'd recommend a walk by the river in the village. The surrounding area has so much to offer too. This gite was a real find and we'd recommend a visit to this area.

We would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Le Petite Oleander Maison. Travel was easy there are several airports within an hours travel. Karen's instructions made finding the gite very easy-they were even illustrated. The house itself is lovely with all sorts of features to make you feel at home. The bed is so comfortable! Karen and Davis made us feel like friends arriving rather than strangers they had never met. They were always there to answer our numerous questions and could advise on everything to where to buy the best croissants in the morning- to where were the best restaurants for the evening. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The gardens and pool are beautiful and we felt very honoured when one of the cats decided to share our patio with us.

The village is very pretty with several places to eat without having to get the car out.

The area itself is full of interesting places to visit-the Canal du Midi 10 minutes down the road is a must as is Carcassonne not far away. Vin yards, beautiful scenery and the coast only 40 minutes make it a place well worth visiting.

It is a very special place and we would love to go back.

From the Owner

We fell in love with this area of France because of the weather and the vision of vineyards as far as the eye can see. Also the number of airports which make getting to and from very easy from the UK.

From the Owner

Our gite in Bize is unique as it is completely separate from the main house with it's own private terrace and BBQ. And although tucked away on a very quiet lane it is only a 2 minute walk into the heart of the village where you are able to wander down to the local restaurants and shops.
