Village shops, bar and restaurants are a 2 minute stroll from the gite. Soak up the beautiful weather, blue skies and famous French cuisine and acres of manicured vineyards with hundreds of local Minervois, Corbieres and Fitou wines to try.

The river Cesse runs through the village and becomes a natural swimming pool in summer, with a lifeguard on duty. Bize has all amenities including café, bar, restaurants, shops and medical services and hosts the fabulous Olive Festival in July.

Travel 5 minutes to the World Heritage Site of the Canal Du Midi, and 15 minutes to the historical city of Minerve. The Roman city of Narbonne is 12 miles away and it's only 30 miles west to the medieval city of Carcassonne. Beziers is 20 minutes away and hosts the famous Feria de Béziers, centred around bullfighting. Every August, a million visitors are attracted to the five-day event. The stunning city of Barcelona is less than 3 hours drive door-to-door. Relax on the Mediterranean beaches, 35 minutes to the south of Bize Minervois. The gite is only 5 minutes drive from the Canal du Midi and a short 2 minute stroll to village shops, bar, restaurants.

Bize is located in a lovely area of vineyards and orchards and is just 21 km from Narbonne, 33kms from Beziers and 48kms from Carcassonne. The nearest beach resorts are a 30-minute drive away. The Canal du Midi is just 2kms away at Le Somail. This is an ideal base for exploring this part of the Languedoc whether it be by car, bicycle, or on foot.

The village has most amenities - a boulangerie for your morning croissants and bread, a grocers, a pharmacy, a post office, restaurants and bar.

There is horse-riding, tennis, boules and a children's playground in nearby villages. Cycles can be rented at the nearby village of Ginestas. Bize has a natural swimming pool in the river which also has a lifeguard during the summer months. Most water sports and swimming from the beaches can be enjoyed at the coastal resorts of Narbonne-Plage, Saint Pierre la Mer and Gruissan. Narbonne has a large leisure centre with a swimming pool, ice rink and ten-pin bowling.

There is an abundance of attractions in this area - it's hard to know where to start. But a visit to this area would not be complete without a trip to the medieval city of Carcassonne, the lively and attractive town of Narbonne, the Canal du Midi, Minerve, the beach resorts of Gruissan and Narbonne-Plage, the vineyards of the Minervois and Corbieres, the abbeys at Fontfroide and Lagrasse and the Cathar Castles. Children and adults alike will enjoy a day at the African Nature Reserve at Sigean where you can see over 3000 species of animals in close-to-nature surroundings.

Markets: The markets locally are colourful and full of lovely, local, seasonal produce as well as wine, herbs, basket ware, jewellery and more! Narbonne has a market on Thursday and Sunday mornings alongside the Canal de la Robine. It also has a fantastic indoor food market in 'Les Halles' open every morning. More locally there's a market in Olonzac on a Tuesday morning and St Chinian on a Sunday morning which is also a picturesque drive up and over the nearby hills. There is also a small market in Bize on a Wednesday morning.

By Car - Bize Minervois is situated 15 minutes to the north of Narbonne and 50 minutes to the east of Carcassonne, just off the D5 and near Le Somail. The nearest autoroute exits are no.38 Narbonne Sud on the A9 Languedocienne or no.24 on the A61 at Carcassonne . It is approximately a 10.5 - 11.5 hour drive from the channel ports in normal traffic conditions.

About Karen LAFFAR

I have been enjoying running our little gite for the last few years and strive to provide all that is necessary for an enjoyable stay for my guests.

I am extremely proud of my Visitors Book which is in the gite for all to see and if any special requirements are needed before your visit am happy to assist.

With the glorious weather in the South of France and being in the quaint little village of Bize it is indeed a very enjoyable way to spend the summer.

Karen LAFFAR purchased this villa in 2005

Why Karen LAFFAR chose Lezignan-Corbieres area

We fell in love with this area of France because of the weather and the vision of vineyards as far as the eye can see.

Also the number of airports which make getting to and

from very easy from the UK.

What makes this villa unique

Our gite in Bize is unique as it is completely separate from the main house with it's own private terrace and BBQ.

And although tucked away on a very quiet lane it is only a 2 minute walk into the heart of the village where you are able to wander down to the local restaurants and shops.

Guestbook comments from the owner

“A Gem of a Gite”

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013 for a stay in June 2013

I almost want to keep this property to myself - it is so good!! The gite is charming especially if, like us, you like quiet, peaceful surroundings. It has a delightful large patio with 2 mulberry trees so you can choose shade or sun. There is a built in cheminiere BBQ and comfortable patio table and chairs. The bed is SO comfortable, the 'rain' shower a delight and there is free wifi and English TV channels. It was wonderful to come back after a day out to a dip in the pool which was an amazing 80F+ despite being heated only by the air.

“Special place”

5 of 5 starsReviewed September 15, 2012 for a stay in August 2012

Petite Oleandre Maison was really lovely. Karen was a most considerate hostess. There were many little touches designed to make our stay easy and comfortable. The cottage was spotlessly clean and I detected Karen has very high standards.

Perfect give for a relaxing break

  • 5 of 5

What can we say? We spent 10 glorious days here basking in the sunshine - the gite has everything you need, is spotless and the bed is extremely comfortable -a perfect base to explore Bize and the surrounding area. Karen and David are very friendly and helpful hosts. The village of Bize itself is very picturesque and has enough amenities for day-to-day needs - two lovely bakers, a small supermarket and a few restaurants. We particularly liked Cafe du Midi for both lunch and dinner - very reasonably priced and friendly service with some great food. We loved the terrace area in front of the gite with plenty of shade and ate breakfast and lunch there most days. The pool area is immaculately clean and surrounded by lovely gardens. The village is a good base for both local walks as well as nearby towns (Narbonne, Carcassonne, Gruissan). Fabulous walks along the Canal du Midi in many of the surrounding villages with lots of choice of great restaurants. We hope to return one day. Thank you once again Karen and David.

A little bit of heaven

  • 5 of 5

A fabulous gite in a lovely location. Very clean, quiet and comfortable. The village Bize Minervois is gorgeous with an amazing supermarket selling everything you could need and great bar and restaurants. We brought our bikes with us and had two great weeks exploring the area. We would recommend it to cyclists with plenty of flat and hilly road cycling on quiet roads available. If you don't have a bike but fancy cycling check out the cycle hire shop at Paraza - they even deliver! After a couple of really hot rides we headed for the lake when the pool wasn't available, with its cold clear water perfect to really cool down. Our only niggle was a misunderstanding about the description of the pool availability. We had read it as meaning the pool was available all of the time but exclusively ours between set hours. In fact it is only available in the stated hours or by negotiation. We were able to negotiate flexibility for much of the time we wanted it and on the plus side having such a lovely pool exclusively for our use was amazing. Karen was away for most of our stay but David was very helpful with any questions and we particularly appreciated him sorting out tickets for us to attend a local festival.

Peaceful place with great pool

  • 5 of 5

This property is really well maintained both inside and out, with an attractive garden. The owners clearly take a lot of care and time to make sure their guests are not disappointed. We had a fantastic time here, enjoying the peaceful location and comfortable gite. N.B. very comfortable bed and good shower. Best of all is the pool. It is well designed with planting around and is a wonderful temperature. Good loungers and shades, and underfoot paving that does not burn your feet in hot sunshine. Generous sized swimming towels are provided. The pool is shared with the owners but on the basis that guests have sole access to it for several hours of the day - it worked really well for us. Without a car, we were grateful that the village centre was within a few hundred yards and we did all the shopping we needed there, including our croissants (two bakeries) each morning. Bize has its own charm, with a riverside where you can swim, and medieval streets. We explored the beautiful surrounding area by bike. Narbonne is a flat ride, a day trip, mostly away from much traffic, and some of the route traffic free along the Canal de la Robine. Or you can choose hillier routes - the area seems popular with cyclists. The owners are warm and friendly: we felt welcomed and would happily return.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at La Petite Oleandre Maison was wonderful. The little house gave us everything we needed for our holiday, a very comfortable bed, good living space - indoors and out - the beautiful pool and a welcoming village environment and, of course, our wonderful hosts Karen and David. It is indeed private and secluded but only a five minute walk from the village centre.

Bize Minervois is a lovely village with the river running through it and we are already missing walking down to the boulangerie to get our breakfast croissant or bread! The village shop is very well stocked with meat, cheese, fresh produce and basics, and we can recommend Chez Jean Marc for an evening meal.

Bize Minervois is in a perfect position to explore the region, offering cities, beaches, medieval hilltop towns and the most amazing wine.

Thank you Karen and David.

Great Gite, location and hospitality

  • 5 of 5

The Gite is hidden down a small lane but close enough for a 5 min stroll into the village for morning croissants. Quiet location although close enough to other properties to feel part of the community. The Gite was spotless, nicely decorated and well equipped. Brilliant hospitality of Karen and David made it a special stay.

A fantastic stay at Le Petite Oleandre

  • 5 of 5

We had a perfect stay at Le Petite Oleandre and a welcome pack supplied by Karen & David (wine beer butter milk jam & marmalade was such a lovely surprise.

The Gite was spotless and had everything you needed Karen and David were on hand if you needed to ask anything without being intrusive.

The village was only a few minutes walk and we ate out quite a few times but 10/10 to Chez Jean-Marc. if you just wanted beer or wine then cafe de la promenade are very friendly and welcoming the pool was a godsend after days out sightseeing and after a swim if you want shade then the breeze house where Terry sat while I sunbathed was amazing.

The large patio was ideal as the patio table is in the shade under two large trees while the rest of the patio got the sunshine .

We definitely will go back again to this amazing place.
