This is a stunning 15th century manor house, providing the perfect escape for a group of up to 13 guests. Set in acres of private grounds, it's an idyllic space for children to enjoy, topped off with a fresh spring water lake which is wonderful to swim in. For families with children, a selection of indoor and outdoor games are provided for your enjoyment.
The manor house has been carefully and lovingly restored by its owners and is set in over 60 acres of woodland and fields for you to enjoy. The property is steeped in history. The oldest part of the manoir dates from 1450 but it was extended in 1650 and was an integral part of the farming community in the area until the Second World War when it fell into ruin. The new owners fell in love with it at first sight and spent years painstakingly restoring the building and putting in the necessary creature comforts!
Inside the property boasts a spacious kitchen, equipped with aga. There is also a dining room with large table seating up to 12 guests as well as a 40 foot long living area with original inglenook fireplace. There is SKY TV as well as WIFI for those who like to ensure they remain connected during their holiday.
Up a flight of stairs, there are 3 double bedrooms as well as a room with 3 single beds, ideal for children. The double bedrooms all enjoy ensuite bathrooms whilst the children in the triple bedroom have a bathroom at the other end of the hallway. A second flight of stairs leads to the attic where there are two further bedrooms which share a wet room style bathroom. There is a large area in between these rooms which can be used as a play area for children.
Outside, there are a number of outbuildings, all providing perfect snapshots of French rural history. One of the barns still houses the original apple press used for the production of local cidre and calvados. And certainly, the manoir lies within the boundaries of the Appellation Calvados Controlee. Whilst the press at the property may not be used any more, there are plenty of small calvados producers within a short drive of the manoir providing tastings. For those with an interest in food and drink, it's also worth visiting the cheese factories at nearby Camembert and Livarot too.
The property is easy to reach, just a 3 hour drive from Calais, and so can even be a great option for those looking for a long weekend. It's also only 40 minutes from the beautiful town of Honfleur and an hour from the sandy beaches of Cabourg, Villers sur Mer and Deauville. For those with a passion for horses, the French national stud of Haras du Pin is only 20 minutes away, whilst for those with more of a historical interest, the museum and memorial at Mont-Ormel is also nearby. This overlooks the valley where the Battle of Normandy took place in 1944.
I am the owner Bookings For You, a company specialising in managing holiday rentals in Italy and France. We manage the property on behalf of the current owners who stumbled across the Manoir in the 1990's, immediately falling in love with its rustic charm. We can see why... it is a stunning property. Over a number of years they have painstakingly restored the Manoir, completely refurbishing the property and bringing it up to the 21st century whilst retaining the original character of the property.
Jo Mackay purchased this chateau / country house in 1990
This is an absolutely beautiful property, steeped in history. The Manoir de la Baudriere is a stunning building in itself but it’s original out-buildings and barns are also still standing and provide a wonderful snapshot of French rural history. It really is the most idyllic spot to spend a holiday. The property is set in 60 acres of parkland and boasts it's own natural spring water lake, wonderful to swim in. For those looking for peace and tranquility in an area where everyone, including the children, can truly enjoy the nature surrounding them, it's an ideal place for a holiday.
The location of the property is idyllic and it will be hard to tear yourself away from the grounds to explore the area. But for those who do, there is plenty to see and do. The Manoir is within the boundary of the Appellation Calvados Controlee, in the Pays D’Auge. It's a great chance to taste some of the local cider and calvados with local producers, whilst for those who prefer food to drink, there are some great camembert producers locally too. Visits can be made to the cheese factories at Camembert and Livarot. Additionally Manoir de la Baudriere is right in the main horse stud area with the French national stud of Haras du pin only 20 mins drive away. It is also only 1 hour drive from the long sandy beaches at Cabourg, Villers sur Mer and Deaville and not far from the beautiful town of Honfleur. For history lovers, nearby is the memorial at Mont-Ormel overlooking the valley where the Battle of Normandy took place in 1944. There truly is something for everyone to enjoy.
This house is just delightful, a gently restored much loved old manor surrounded by unspoilt countryside and much as it would have been a few hundred years ago, yet with all the things you hope to find (cupboard full of the things you might have forgotten, comfortable beds, huge baths, boiler that can easily cope). Our extended family gathering had space to spread out, wifi for the kids, acres for the dogs to run in, no lists of rules and regulations, we were totally charmed and would go back in an instant.
We stayed for 5 nights in May and the house was delightful. Just as we had expected. The description Michael gave was very accurate and we were thrilled. The house is very large and suits a large family or group of friends. We loved the shabby chic rustic feel. The beds were amazingly comfortable and the pillows and linen were of excellent quality. The fireplace is enormous and the drawing room a delight to cosy up in front of in the chilly evenings. All in all its a magical place. Very clean and we would recommend to anyone. There is a very useful guardian on hand promptly to fix any problems which may occur in an old house such as this. We loved it all and we covered all ages from 8yrs to 95yrs and all were happy ! Well done
