Fabulous villa, great location

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful, spotlessly clean and well equipted villa situated on the edge of a liovely village with stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

Linda kept us well informed with useful information and even offered to get extra supplies as we arrived on a bank holiday.

The local bars and shops were easily within walking distance, very friendly and tolerant of our very limited Spanish. We particually enjoyed Bar Pescearo where Antonio served amazing tapas.

Ronda is well worth a visit and we even had a day out in Seville - a very stylish city. We had hoped to walk the Caminito del Ray (a stunning 12 km gorge walk), but unfortunately it was fully booked for the next few weeks - need to book in advance if you want to do this.

A great holiday, we would be very happy to recommend this villa.

Best villa we have stayed in .... Ever

  • 5 of 5

From the first contact we had with Linda we knew we were going to be well looked after. She kept us up to date with friendly emails, information about the area and directions to the villa.

As other reviews have mentioned the villa is a town house, to a very high standard and Linda and Chris have really thought of everything. Thanks to Chris, meeting us on our arrival to explain how everything worked.

From the welcome pack to the fantastic pool and barbecue area and even two bicycles which are really good for getting about the village. Every level of the villa is very spacious and loads of storage.

We are fairly new to rural Spanish villages, only our second but they seem to have several things in common. Extremely friendly, fantastic local food and with difficult to understand opening hours. Ask Chris when you arrive!

Our Spanish is definately on the basic level and again as other reviewers have mentioned, nobody in the village speaks English which for us is an attraction. Having basic Spanish is an advantage but a degree in mime and pointing goes a long way.

As long as an effort is made to speak a wee bit of Spanish the locals are more than helpful.

We loved every tapas bar and restaurant we visited but especially enjoyed Bar Pescearo, Antonio and the customers made us feel more than welcome. And it's the closest one to the villa.

A visit to Ronda is a must, it is spectacular, friendly even though it is full of bloody tourists!

If you have the use of a car a trip through the wee roads over the Sierra-mountains to Grazalema is like Scotland with sun.

Another fantastic visit are the caves, whether it's Cueva de Gato, stopping at Benojan for lunch or to the fantastic Cueva de La Pileta. Read the website for times as they do restrict groups to 25 so you may have to wait a while for the next tour.

We hope to return very soon. A huge thanks to Linda and Chris for making our stay in Cuevas del Becerro so fantastic.

Luego.

Lovely holiday house in charming authentic town

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic week staying at this beautifully appointed townhouse. Our first taste of 'proper' Spain could not have been better; from the very Spanish but very friendly locals to the house and pool which met every requirement we had of it. Linda was efficient and helpful from start to finish. One small thing - given how relentlessly hot it was the house could really benefit from some proper air conditioning, but this is a minor gripe from what was a perfect week in the sunshine.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely home. It was well-appointed, with everything two couples would need for a week's stay. The property shows pride of ownership and is in a location off of the main road through town. The customer service before and during our stay was fantastic, very responsive to our needs. It was comfortable for four, but could have accommodated six easily without feeling crowded. The village is very Spanish, with small tiendas (shops) and warm, welcoming folk. As said before, no one speaks more than a bit of English, but we managed with our limited Spanish, a Spanish language translation book and a lot of charades. There are lovely pastries at La Tahona, fresh produce and local food offerings in the shops. Everything shuts down in the mid-day heat, but is bustling in the mornings with most of the town doing their shopping. The evenings are lively in the pubs, which seem to open and close in a random order on different days of the week. We enjoyed Bar Ponce for tapas and took a trip into the Aldi in Ronda for provisions to cook many of our own meals. We also toured the famous Ronda bull ring and inclusive museum and had lots of photo opportunities wherever we were. We would highly recommend this property if you wish to get away from the 'resort' sort of holiday, to enjoy something rustic and truly Spanish. We will return!

Lived like the locals

  • 5 of 5

Great property in a lovely, typical Spanish village.

We spent two weeks here at the start of August with our family - 2 adults and two teenagers.

The house is really well located in the centre of the village and close to all the amenities and numerous tapas bars and restaurants. For such a small village there are an enormous amount of bars!

A word of warning - no-one, and I mean no-one, speaks a word of English. I would describe my Spanish as intermediate so thoroughly enjoyed communicating and improving my spanish. Don't worry if you don't speak spanish though as everyone is really friendly and makes an effort to say hello. You'll be fine in the bars - just take a phrase book and translate the tapas menu - which in most cases is handwritten.

Best bar is Bar Pescaero, the one nearest the house. Lovely friendly staff and really busy. The owner saw us in another restaurant on his night off and sent over a round of drinks for us!

Pool is lovely and we couldn't persuade our two teenagers to leave it for two weeks. We alternated between eating out and barbecuing by the pool. The butcher in the village does enormous sirloin steaks - dirt cheap too!

Ronda is 15 mins drive away and the industrial estate on the outskirts of town has an Aldi and a Supersol supermarket. Really easy to get to.

Breakfast in the village bars is savoury - bread and pate. If you want churros you'll have to go to Ronda!

Try the restaurant at the municipal swimming pool 'La Piscina' which also cooks fresh pizzas and burgers if the kids fancy something other than tapas. If you walk down to the main road at the entrance to the village there is a restaurant called Meson Palayo which does a very reasonable set price sit down menu.

We loved it here. A taste of real rural Spain. It's friendly, quiet and, when we went, roasting hot. Lovely.

The house also boasts satellite tv so we were able to keep up with news back in the uk (and Match Of The Day!)

Linda, who deals with the administration was faultless throughout the whole thing. Efficient, friendly and made the whole experience very easy.

Would heartily recommend this property.

Peaceful, Romantic & Life Changing.......

  • 5 of 5

Little did we know at the time of booking this superb property in the beautiful town of Cuevas del Becerro that it would have a life changing impact upon our lives! We arrived very late towards the end of August and the town certainly put on a fantastic welcome - a Feria! We feasted on Jamon Serrano and Manchego Cheese for supper, found the house easily thanks to Linda’s concise instructions and fell into a comfortable bed, (ceiling fans are a bonus), with a sense of well-being. We knew the house we had chosen to call home for the next two weeks, was all that the photographs depicted. We awoke to bright sunshine, opened the curtains and wow! What a view! The pool was clean, garden tidy, table, chairs and sun loungers ready. But beyond all that, the views were stunning, this is real Spain, in all it’s glory. There’s a small balcony off the twin bedroom and it’s the place to sit peacefully with the first cuppa of the day, gazing out over the stunning countryside. It’s also the place to sit with a nightcap gazing at the stars. The house is well appointed throughout and spotlessly clean, furnished to a high standard with modern fixtures and fittings. Beds and sofas are comfortable, lashings of hot water, showers function well and the plumbing is as it should be. Internet is stable & there’s plenty of English TV. This house is well equipped with enough pots and pans, bedding, towels etc. for a family. A welcome pack & wine, essentials are in the store cupboard, but you can find most groceries a short walk away in the town. We found the locals friendly, although no English is spoken, it’s easy to get by with basic Spanish and the occasional charade! We make a point of supporting the locals and part of our holiday is to immerse ourselves in the culture and get to know people. There’s fresh bread and veg, meat and fish, carbon for BBQ, all within a few metres walk. We enjoyed traditional Spanish dishes cooked fresh in the evenings at local bars. We hired a car and discovered some wonderful places; Ardelas Lakes, Ronda, a must see, El Chorro and the Camino del Rei, Antequera, the list is endless. We even drove to romantic Cordoba & Lucena, well worth a trip. What about the life changing impact? Well, we fell in love with the area, so we bought a little house of our own a few months later about 40Km away. So I guess you could say that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Cuevas del Becerro. If you love the real Spain, you will too.

Indeed, so much so that you recently bought locally a place of your own. Best wishes to you and Tim for the future with lots more memorable trips to Spain.

Location

From the Owner

The family bought the house after 3 years searching for the right property and finally got just what they wanted. 'Casa de la Montana' is a house in the country with real country life, mountain views, lots of wildlife and walks, also local friendly people keeping local traditions. The village is unusual as it is on a flat plateau making it easy to walk and ride as there are no hills. Also plenty of local bars and restaurants and finally its all so easily accessed by road.
