Beautiful 3 bedroom apartment in Sainte-Foy Station.

Overview

Property

Updated: 23-Nov-2016
Large and luxurious apartment - a real home-from-home.

A fully renovated 3 bedroom apartment in an old farmhouse in the ski resort of Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise, Chalet de l'Ours is spread over 2 floors and also benefits from a mezzanine area off the main living/dining area.

At 115sqm Chalet de l'Ours is considerably larger than most 3 bedroom apartments. The spacious living and dining areas will comfortably accommodate 8 people and benefit from stunning mountain views whilst the mezzanine offers an extra space for relaxation or for the children to play.

The living area has 2 large, extremely comfortable Chesterfield sofas, a matching club chair, west-facing balcony, log fire and a large smart TV. There is also a mezzanine area with a Chesterfield sofa-bed and expansive views to the north. Large windows facing north also offer fantastic, uninterrupted mountain views. These windows and the balcony offer a huge amount of natural light.

The main bedroom offers en-suite facilities and also benefits from a west-facing balcony. There is ample room for a cot should that be necessary. The second and third bedrooms have uninterrupted mountain views to the north whilst all 3 bedrooms have extremely comfortable double beds and hand-crafted, made-to-measure storage built in. The 3rd bedroom can be offered as a twin rather than a double.

Both the en-suite and family bathrooms offer bath, shower and wc facilities and have large, well lit mirrors over the sink and there is a 3rd wc. The large boilers will support two people running a bath simultaneously.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a butler sink, 110cm range-style cooker featuring a double oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and a Nespresso coffee maker.

Sainte Foy is a great resort for children. The village is small and very safe and there is a lot of outdoor space for them to run around. The apartment has plenty of space for baby items such as push chairs and cots. However, if you have toddlers please be aware that we have 2 open staircases and none of the drawers or cupboards are currently child-proofed.

For larger groups we also have a second property - https://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/accommodation/p8153984 - below Chalet de l'Ours that sleeps 2-4. We do not make this apartment permanently available - preferring to keep it available for our own use outside the peak weeks - so please contact us if you are interested in reserving this property for additional members of your group.

The Winter season:

We operate a Sunday changeover for most of the Winter season. This offers clients the dual benefits of travelling to and from the resort when the roads are quiet (the main changeover day in the wider area is Saturday and traffic can be extremely heavy, especially during the peak weeks) and being able to enjoy a Saturday on the slopes as the final day of their holiday (as most people are either leaving or arriving on a Saturday the slopes are generally very quiet on a Saturday).

May & October half-term:

As these are generally quiet booking periods we can offer the May & October half-term weeks with a Friday check-in and Sunday check-out for the price of a standard week. We are also open to extending this offer to other weeks outside the peak Winter and Summer seasons.

Outside the ski season:

Chalet de l’Ours offers great walking, hiking and mountain biking opportunities direct from the front door.

During the summer holidays the resort's Grand Plan lift opens for foot passengers and mountain bikers.

The wider Haute Tarentaise and Savoie area has a rich and varied history having been ruled at various times by both Italy and France. The resort itself shares a 25km border Italy and several historic fortifications are within an easy drive. These include the Fort de la Platte, Fort du Truc and Fort de la Redoute Ruinee.

There are several nature reserves in the area with the Réserve Naturelle des Hauts de Villaroger being a 15 minute drive away. Please be aware that this area serves as a refuge of the Tetras-Lyre and can only be accessed with an approved guide.

The apartment contains several maps and books detailing local walks for all levels of fitness. The walk to the hamlet of Le Monal is easily achievable whilst the return hike to Lac Noir is likely to take most of the day but is well worth the effort. May and June are particularly colourful months as the meadow flowers are in full bloom.

About the Owner

Lee first discovered Sainte Foy in 2007 and was taken in by the uniqueness of the resort holidaying there regularly. He introduced Rhiannon to the resort a few years later and it had the same effect. In 2012 they bought a 4-story house in an old farm building on the edge of the resort. The property has been professionally renovated using local craftsmen and traditional materials and now consists of 2 very comfortable duplex apartments. We plan to rent the larger of the 2 apartments - Chalet de l'Ours - on an ongoing basis, while making the smaller apartment our permanent home when circumstances permit.

Lovely chalet in a pretty village

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at Chalet de l'Ours for a week to walk the hills and enjoy the quiet and colours of autumn. The chalet is well laid out, full of rustic charm but with all modern comforts and conveniences. Excellent views from the chalet. Well-equipped, very clean and cosy, would happily come again.

Excellent luxury chalet in good location

  • 5 of 5

Very nicely laid out and decorated - clean, comfortable and with great views. Just a couple of minutes walk from the main village - with a very regular shuttle bus to the slopes if you are carrying skis as the walk is uphill. Our friends were leaving at quarter to nine for a lesson that started at ten to nine every day and were never late. (They claim!)

Lovely 'roaring log fire' and rustic style make this chalet very atmospheric and pleasant in the evenings.

Highly recommended.

Home from home

  • 5 of 5

Lovely, spacious and homely chalet. Comfortable and well equipped with everything you would require. 2 mins on a regular shuttle bus from the door to the slopes. Resort is great with no queueing for lifts and well groomed runs.

Definitely would like to stay again.

Fantastic Chalet, Stunning views, Owner 5*

  • 5 of 5

All descriptions were 100% accurate and the Owner was really helpful re: directions, layout of Chalet, location, facilities of Chalet, skiing and activities for non-skiers. It was very clean and tidy and well maintained. We would definitely recommend this Chalet to friends and relatives. Ski bus was literally just outside the Chalet. The village, 5 minute walk, had a ski hire, grocer and several restaurants - all of which were very good and very friendly. As it is a Sunday changeover plan ahead as the supermarkets and many other shops were not open., but it did mean there were no hold-ups on the roads. We used our snow chains many times. We drove just 15 minutes to Tignes one day to try to get above the cloud. Having being skiing in the Alps for 30 years we do hope to come back here!

Fantastic accommodation - amazing surroundings

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd Summer on the trot here. Absolutely beautiful chalet ... amazing surroundings. Everything you'll need is in the chalet. So much to see and do in the surrounding area, walking, picnicking, white water swimming/rafting for all age groups ... fabulous swimming pools in Bourg St Maurice, Les Arcs and Tignes + more. This year the Ski lift was open in St Foy, take this and you can have a great local walk and you wont need to get in the car!. Nobody was bored ... including the kids, 9, 12 and 15 years old. Highly recommend staying here. Is truly beautiful.

Chalet de l'Ours - a perfect place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at chalet de l'Ours during the first week of the summer holidays. The accomodation is beautifully decorated with top notch furnishings, fully equipped for a large family to self cater in luxury, the large kitchen area provided glasses, large cooking pots, huge electric range cooker and nespresso coffee machine. The beds are the most comfortable i have experienced on any holiday and all bedrooms had plenty of storage and extra pillows. Extra sleeping room with games, books and local tourist information upstairs on a mezzanine. Bathroom and toilet facilities spotless with plenty of hot water. As well as providing amazing scenic views with local amenities close by the holiday resort we found plenty of lovely places to visit only short drives away. We would definately recommend this accommodation to anyone wanting a luxury get away in the mountains. Would love to see the mountains in winter too so might have to check out a ski season.

Location

From the Owner

Sainte Foy Tarentaise is a gorgeous little ski resort. In contrast to its larger neighbours (Val d'Isere, Tignes, the Paradiski area and La Rosiere are all within 20 minutes drive) there is a pronounced lack of large concrete buildings. It retains a lovely village atmosphere. The resort has only 4 lifts but queues are almost unheard of and the lifts open up an incredible amount of off-piste terrain for the advanced or expert skier and rider. The lack of crowds and relaxed atmosphere also make Sainte Foy an ideal place for beginners or for families. The resort has some fantastic restaurants and there are a couple of small but lively bars in the central square but those looking for a party atmosphere will be better served elsewhere.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Barpub : Black Diamond Lodge at 50 Metres Nearest Train : Bourg Sainte Maurice at 20 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Black Diamond Lodge at 50 Metres Nearest Ski : In resort - Sainte Foy Tarentaise Car: recommended

Travel:

By car Chambery airport is a 1.5 hours drive, Grenoble airport is a 2 hour drive and Geneva and Lyon are 2.5 hours drive. The train station in Bourg Saint Maurice is a 20 minute taxi journey away.

Further Details:

All the restaurants - whether on the slopes or in the resort - are excellent. The village of Sainte Foy Tarentaise is a 5 minute drive from the resort and has 2 excellent restaurants in Le Monal and The Grange. It is advisable to book in advance for all restaurants.

There is limited shopping available in the resort although it is possible to obtain the basics, fresh vegetables and nice wines. Some may find this adequate for a week long holiday but for those who are more adventurous in the kitchen we recommend the supermarkets in Bourg Saint Maurice for a larger shop.

We highly recommend SnoCool for children's group lessons, private instruction or guiding throughout the Haute Tarentaise. They can even arrange a helicopter drop in Italy and can guide you back down to the village of Sainte Foy Tarentaise from where a free bus will return you to the resort.

Changeover Day:
During the ski season changeover day is normally Sunday. Saturday is very quiet in resort making for a great last day on the slopes whilst Sunday is quiet on the roads which can ease the stress of an airport run especially during peak (Xmas/NY/HT) holiday periods. Outside the ski season we normally operate a Saturday changeover day.

Summer/Autumn Half Term
Check-in is available on Friday evening with check-out 9 days later on the Sunday for the prevailing weekly price. We cannot offer this promotion during the Winter season or during Summer school holidays.

Cleaning charge
As we are not present in resort we must employ a cleaning service to clean and prepare the apartment. We apply this charge separately to each booking so that clients will only pay this fee once regardless of the length of the booking.

Longer Term Lets
We are open to discussing longer term lets. Just drop us a note and let us know what you are looking for and we will see if we can help. However, please be aware that Chalet de l'Ours is located in a ski resort and has been renovated to a very high standard as a holiday rental so we are limited in what we can offer during the winter season, especially over the peak weeks of Xmas, New Year and the UK half term which we rely on very heavily for a large part of our annual income.

Facilities

From the Owner

Chalet de l'Ours sits on the northerly edge of the resort in the old hamlet of La Bataillette yet the centre of the village and all amenities are an easy 5 minute walk away. The apartment is part of an old traditional farmhouse and has been renovated to retain much of the charm of the original property. La Bataillette borders a national park. The proximity of the national park also guarantees uninterrupted mountain views to the north from the main living/dining area and from the 2nd and 3rd bedrooms. The living area and main bedroom both have balcony views across the valley to the west.
