We have four family-size 2-bedroom cottages (Wren, Swallow, Dove and Blackbird) and four smaller cottages (Seagull, Puffin, Sandpiper and Avocet), ideal for couples. No stairs. Park close to cottage. Free WiFi. Children and dogs very welcome. Safe and secure site quietly located in small rural hamlet close to famous Donkey Sanctuary, and 10 minutes' drive to Regency town of Sidmouth. Great spot for walking SW coast path, cycling or exploring unspoilt Jurassic coastline; close to Branscombe and Beer, and within easy reach of safe sandy beaches at Lyme Regis and Exmouth. On-site warden 24/7. Family-owned and managed.

Seagull Cottage is a small,cosy, well-equipped, 4* chalet/ bungalow, one in a row of 4, set within pretty enclosed shared gardens. There are 2 bedrooms, one with double bed, one with single bed, and an open-plan living area looking onto a private patio and gardens.The kitchen area has an electric oven with ceramic hob, microwave oven, fridge/freezer compartment, breakfast bar with 2 high stools, comfortable arm chairs, flatscreen TV/DVD player, radio/CD player,iron/ironing board, hairdryer. Shower room with WC, wall-mounted washbasin, walk-in shower with seat, heated towel rail, underfloor heating. Fully carpeted and double-glazed with thermostatically-controlled electric panel heaters in all rooms. Dogs accepted in Seagull.

About the Owner

We moved to Devon from the Midlands 25 years ago, with 2 children, 6 and 8, 2 dogs and a cat, and settled into a new life very easily. Now we're grandparents too, we still have 2 dogs (not the same ones!) and still love this area very much. So much so that in 2007 we purchased a holiday cottage business, Leigh Cottages, close to Sidmouth where we live, and in 2010, a Lodge near Salcombe in south Devon. We manage all the admin and bookings ourselves, and enjoy speaking personally to our guests, and having their feedback to continually improve the service we give. My other half, Terry, isn't seen that often as he runs another business, but he's always there behind the scenes to give support and advice. We strive to always provide a high standard of holiday accommodation and have always had many repeat bookings.

This part of east Devon is truly special - it's on the Jurassic coastline and surrounded by National Trust land. Leigh Cottages are in a quiet little backwater, always peaceful even in mid summer. You can hear the donkeys sometimes as the site is very close to the Donkey Sanctuary, and often you will see and hear the buzzards circling high above. We feed the birds too, so you can see many songbirds, and the woodpeckers and squirrels. The cottages are really well located for touring the area, you won't run out of places to go in a week, most places can be reached within half an hour's drive. It's also a very safe area, and great for children and dogs!.

10 mins drive to Branscombe or Beer beaches (pebbles)

20 mins drive to Ladram Bay (small sandy beach); 25 mins drive to Lyme Regis (sand and fossils on beach) or Exmouth (huge sandy beach)

Branscombe Beach - parking/cafe (4 miles)

Beer -traditional fishing village, beach (5 miles)

Exmouth -long sandy beach, marina,seaside town (10 miles)

Lyme Regis - Regency town, beach, fossils, traditional pubs (10 miles)

Further Details:

5 mins' drive to Sidford - Blue Ball Inn, well-stocked Spar supermarket, post office, excellent Fish/Chip takeaway (Bloaters), Waitrose, Garden Centre.

7 min's drive into Sidmouth - excellent range of independent shops, cafes, banks, pubs,seafront promenade; nearest petrol/garage at Woolbrook, next to Lidls.

10 min's drive to Branscombe - traditional pubs at the Fountain Head and Masons Arms, both serve excellent food and are dog/child friendly.

Honiton - old coaching town, lots of antique shops, weekly market, large Tesco, Lidls (15 mins' drive)

Generally very dog friendly area.

Booking Notes:
Check availability from website, or phone us directly on 01395 516065; deposit of 25% to confirm reservation. Pay by debit/credit card, cheque or bank transfer. Balance due 6 weeks before arrival. Short breaks payable in full. Late availability at discounted rates. 5% discount for returning guests.

Changeover Day:
Weekly bookings Saturday to Saturday May to end of September;arrive after 3.30pm, depart by 10am. Short breaks 2-5 nights out of main season -arrival/departure times flexible. Will always try to accommodate other times when possible.

Notes on prices:
Returning guests 5% discount on any 7-night stay; discounted rates on late availability bookings. Always worth trying an offer to get a reduction in price! Extra beds are charged at £30 per stay; use of cot and/or highchair is free but must be reserved at time of booking.
Dogs (max 2) are £28pw each,or £18 each per short break.

The cottages are quietly located on a single level site, surrounded by well-kept gardens with tidy lawns and mature trees and shrubs. Our resident Warden and Manager, David, has lived here for over 12 years and knows pretty much everything about the local area; both David and myself, Alison, are always available to chat to guests or sort out any problems. The Leighs is a safe and secure site, very private, with only one entrance/exit so it's great for small children, dogs or guests who just want to relax. We often have extended family get-togethers here as we can sleep up to 25, and lots of our guests return year on year to the same cottage. We take great care to ensure all our visitors, families, friends and dogs,have a very warm welcome whatever time of year they arrive!

  • Notes on accommodation: Our holiday cottages are all 4* graded and we take great care in providing a friendly and welcoming stay for all our guests. Our resident site warden,David, has lived here for over 12 years and knows nearly everything about the local area - he is always very highly commended in our Guest Book! We have many couples and families (and pets) who return year on year so we like to think that between us, we are giving our guests the standard of accommodation and facilities they expect. There is a well-stocked information area with lots of local brochures and maps, plus a games box for indoor/outdoor activities; also a laundry area with 2 washing machines and a tumble dryer, operated on an 'honesty box' basis, and a chest freezer for guests' use. Outside: All cottages have individual private patios with table and chairs, trellis screens and mature shrubs, overlooking large shared lawned areas. Sun parasols and a gas BBQ are available for our guests' use. Our 4 smaller bungalows share a separate enclosed garden. There is also a fenced grass paddock for recreation/outdoor games. Large level fields adjacent to our site belong to the Donkey Sanctuary and are ideal for dog walking, or for children just letting off steam - the donkeys are often found grazing here.
