1 bed room cottage, fully equipped which sleeps 4 when the large sofa bed in the living room is used.

About the property

One of 7 refurbished cottages set in a mature garden that used to form part of an estate. This makes for a very tranquil setting but also very well located to visit the whole of Fife and The East Neuk in particular. St Andrews is 15 minutes by car. Crail - 15 minutes by car. St Monans - 5 minutes by car. Elie - 10 minutes by car.

The cottages are well equipped, comfy and maintained to a high standard. Jamie and Tara are on site should you need anything but normally this is just a chat about what's going on in the area, where the best places to eat are or where the best walks are.

Each of the smaller cottages has one bedroom and 4 cottages have a large sofa bed in the living room so sleep 4 people and 2 other sleep 2 people. The 5 terraced cottages are advertised here but you can find The Studio Cottage (sleeps 4 and is detached) and The Gardeners Cottage (sleeps 9, and is detached ) on Owners Direct too.

The beds in the bedrooms can be made up as twins or doubles. We do allow animals in some of our cottages but leave others animal free. The cottages are cosy in the winter and cool in the summer. There is a terrace space with table and chairs for each cottage.

The cottages are well equipped and we provide hotel quality linen and towels. We also provide starter packs of everything you will need for the first day or too - loo rolls, washing liquid, hand soap, shampoo, tea/coffee/sugar etc.

Madeira has a beautiful 2 acre walled garden where the family grow fruit and vegetables in the season. These are available for sale in The Bothy on site or a box can be pre ordered and will be waiting in your cottage on your arrival.

About Jamie Robertson

Madeira was owned and run as a holiday destination by the Duncan family for 20 years. We bought the house and cottages at the end of 2012 as we fell in love with the extraordinary garden and wanted to bring our kids up in this serene environment. We are not new to the self catering holiday industry as we own a business in Edinburgh called The Mews Company. We understand what people need in a cottage to enable them to spend as long or as little time in the cottage as they want. Our desire is to ensure our guests can enjoy their time at Madeira and that the cottages are an excellent base in which to explore the local area. We love it here and we hope you will too. Why Jamie Robertson chose Anstruther

Madeira is such a calm place and the cottages are the perfect place to relax and use as a base to explore the beautiful countryside and coast of the East Neuk.

There is so much to do around Pittenweem and the villages are all so charming people come back again and again. We have many guests who come annually and indeed some who pay us a visit twice a year.

What makes this cottage unique

Madeira is a warm, calm place where people feel away from it all yet are close enough to all the amenities they could wish for on a holiday. We are lucky enough to live here so can have a tranquil life but also have tonnes to do when we want to.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Many thanks for your hospitality it’s nice to meet people who care about their guests." Mr ans Mrs Winton

We loved our 5 night stay at Madeira, the cottage (Pittenweem) was so clean and comfortable, garden and woods area very sheltered and the birds and other wildlife a great pleasure to see and hear.

We have stayed in Fife several times, but this location is special, very warm and sunny on even on cold days, which was so different from the climate we had travelled from on the West Coast - wet, windy, rain and hail. The local area has so many places to visit, historic, wonderful local shops and beaches are quite spectacular. We will visit again as soon as we can. Mr and Mrs Charlton

"The cottage was spotlessly clean and well appointed and Jamie and family made us feel extremely welcome! Would certainly recommend a break here and we plan to return!" Lynda C

Tranquil surroundings

  • 5 of 5

We were made to feel most welcome, even our young dog and visiting family. Nothing was to much trouble. Cottages are in lovely grounds in a perfect location for visiting the area.

The cottage was clean and had everything we needed.

We fully recommend a stay and intend returning ourselves
