Country Villa With Private Pool Set In 2 Acres Of Tropical Garden With Spectacul

Overview

Property

Updated: 04-Sep-2016
Villa in Boguis, Nr. Castries, St Lucia, Caribbean - Rural Hideaway Located In A Small Hamlet In The Heart Of The St Lucian Countryside

Heliconia House is a stunning 3 bedroomed villa located in the heart of the St Lucian countryside. The villa has a large open plan living area downstairs with a separate kitchen and a shower room with WC. There is a separate shower room upstairs with WC. All of the bedrooms have air conditioning and also have access on to a balcony where you can get stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Downstairs there is a wrap around balcony where you can dine outside or just find shade when you need it during the day. There is a large family pool, outdoor changing rooms with shower and WC together with a gazebo in the garden. The villa has solar panels on the roof which ensure a constant supply of hot water. The villa sits in it's own grounds of 2 acres of landscaped garden. The garden has many varieties of fruit trees for you to be able to enjoy all year round. There is a great variety of tropical plants and shrubs which are very colourful all year round. The garden attracts lots of varieties of birds including humming birds that tend to nest in the foliage around the house. At night there is a fantastic sound of the tree frogs which are particularly vocal when there has been some rain. The villa is located in a valley which benefits from cool sea breezes from the Atlantic side of the island. The property is situated in the central region of the north of the island near Babonneau. It is a 20 minute drive to the Rodney Bay area with it's marina shopping and dining facilities. The capital of St Lucia, Castries, is a 20 minute drive to the South. The house was originally built by a local business lady as her weekend country retreat in 2000. We purchased the house in 2006 (after it had appeared on "A Place in the Sun" with Amanda Lamb) and added the pool in 2008. The house has principally been used as a family holiday centre since then but we have now decided to offer it out for rent as well. As the house has been used as a family house there are books, DVD's and games which can be enjoyed by our visitors. The electricity supply is standard UK 3 pin plugs and you drive on the left! There is a full time gardener who lives in separate quarters on the site who will be very happy to supply all your fruit from the garden subject of course to the seasons. You can do as much or as little as you want when you visit. The beaches are a 10 minute drive away on the Atlantic side and a 20 minute drive away on the Caribbean side. You can go turtle watching on the Atlantic side of the island, play golf at the St Lucia Golf and Country Club and participate in all forms of watersports such as sailing, scuba diving, snorkelling and fishing. There is a zipline across the tropical rainforest nearby and of course you need to go and visit the world heritage site of the Pitons to the South of the island.

About the Owner

My wife and I purchased Heliconia House in 2006 after it had appeared on A Place in the Sun with Amanda Lamb! We and our children have used it regularly since for a complete getaway holiday. As our children have got older and gone their own ways with their partners, we find the house is not getting used as much as it was before and we have decided to look to rent it out. It is a great place for relaxation and I even had my retirement party out there with some of my work friends coming over to St Lucia for a week. If you need any further information on the house or it's suitability for your needs please do not hesitate to contact us. Above all enjoy your holiday and if there is anything we need to do to improve your stay we need to know!

Rural hideaway just 26 minutes from the beach

  • 4 of 5

If you want peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of Rodney Bay or Castries, then this place is just 26 minutes away (we timed the journey from Reduit Beach Rodney Bay. But mind it is 26 minutes hard driving up the hills. Just across the hills you are almost up in the clouds.

Boguis is a quiet village with the odd car/bus zooming past (they have to revv hard to climb the incline) and the night time the only sounds are the crickets, frogs and nature sounds. You will sometimes hear music coming from the bar down the road on a Friday and Saturday night and Country and Western wafting across from the hills on a Sunday morning.

We were taken to the location by the property manager when we first arrived on the islandbut got lost trying it on our own the second night (finally asking for directions whilst right outside the gate (it can hardly be seen from the road - we missed the sign at the gate!!). But fear not, the locals will offer to take you half way usually and St Lucians are very friendly people as a general rule.

The cleaner came in on a Tuesday and the live on site gardener was more than happy to break open coconuts (two types always FULL of water), collect mangoes (3 types) and peel sugar cane for us on a daily basis. The garden is a veritable treasure trove with many many many types of fruits (both familiar and unfamiliar) as well as flowers. We were lucky enough to see hummingbirds flitting from flower to flower.

There is ample space for the 10 people advertised (could actually take more). There were 8 people in our party and we had plenty of sleeping options (often with 3 sleeping options free).

We ventured outside to a couple of the local bars and when I had a torn shirt, the gardner (who is a local took us to a seamstress down the road for a cheap repair.

One thing to watch out for: Mosquitoes. We had to devise a system (took us a week to sort out) where we spray the rooms before bed time ( bug spray is mandatory). We reported to the management a couple of places where the nets on the windows need attention and one high level vent that had a net missing all together, hopefully these will be sorted out ASAP. We resorted to blocking this off with a plastic bag that covered my suit (the type you get from the dry cleaners).

We have recommended the property to other friends going to St Lucia soon and would stay there again in the future.

Location

From the Owner

This is typical rural St Lucian life here. The calmness and removal from everyday stress has a great value to the quality of life.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

20 minute drive to Reduit beach in Rodney Bay (one of the largest beaches on the island) and 10 minute drive to the Atlantic coast where some small beaches can be found.

Travel:

The main international airport (Hewanorra) is located in the South of the island about an hours drive away from the villa. Some form of car access is essential for the villa, either car hire (note only available to over 25) or we use a local taxi man (Tony) to ferry us around while we are there (cheaper to do it this way if you are not going out every day)

Distances:

20 minute drive to Rodney Bay area where there are shopping Malls, supermarkets, banks, restaurants etc. Castries the capital of St Lucia is about the same drive time South and also offers a duty free shopping area and a local craft market.

Further Details:

If you like fish there are fish fries in two towns on the St Lucian coast on a Friday and Saturday night. May is the St Lucia Jazz festival, July is carnival time, there is a bill fishing tournament in September and a creole festival in October. The Atlantic rally for cruisers ends in St Lucia in December. Also at times there is international cricket at the Beausejour stadium.
