Wonderful secluded cottage in the English countryside.

Beautiful views in all directions.

All the comforts of home including a large fully equipped kitchen.

Enjoy staying at the cottage, hiking on the Cotswold Way, or traveling to nearby Bath,Bristol or Cardiff.

An overall god value for the money.

Relaxing and removed

  • 4 of 5

The rental is located deep in England's countryside, get ready for a winding, twisty, one-lane, two-way road to the barn. This place is off the beaten path. But the views are astounding, and you can't beat the feel of being in the beautiful countryside. It's amazing here. Take a walk in the early morning, it'll change your perspective on the day. There's a footpath though the fields just down the road from the barn on the right. If you're looking for peace and tranquility, this is the place. Drive a few miles and you're at the Roman Baths.

The barn itself is rustic and charming, with 3 levels. It's country cottage decor, lots of wood, beams and stone; it feels homey and inviting. The kitchen is just perfect; AGA stove, Belfast sink, Dutch door, plenty of cookery, dishes and utensils. It truly feels like home. There's a clothes washer but no tumble dryer, seems guests are expected to use the AGA. We'd have preferred a proper dryer.

The living room has a decent sized flatscreen with Sky tv. There's a nice wood stove, we didn't use it because we were there in July. Beautiful view from a south window, you can perch up in that window and look out forever. The only thing I thought could use improving were the couches, they're 90s leather in maroon and black, and although comfortable, they're very out of place with the rest of the furnishings. The wifi worked well for us, a family of five, with laptops, iPads, phones, etc. We were able to stream Netflix and surf the web simultaneously.

The bedrooms are fair in size, each with a private bathroom. They are fitted with blackout blinds, which is great as the sun rises very early. The bathrooms are good sized and updated, the master offers a soaking tub as well as separate shower. The beds were clean with nice bedding. The Master queen mattress is quite hard though, and for some reason it smelt as though the bedding had been strongly perfumed.

Lots of stairs throughout, so if you're bringing small children, bring some baby gates. They provide a high chair, which is really nice, along with some toys and lovely wooden dollhouse.

The owners live adjacent in the farmhouse. They left milk, fresh eggs, cake, bread and cookies for us upon arrival. They left soap and paper products, trash bags, everything to get us started. They were very easy to work with, super nice, and the rental was very reasonably priced.

Overall we loved it! I highly recommend for those looking to escape to the country.

Idyllic heavenly retreat

  • 5 of 5

This place is right out of a storybook. As weary travelers with a young toddler, we felt at home as soon as we walked in the door. You feel as if you are in the middle of nowhere but its actually very accessible to shops and tourist sites. It was the most memorable part of our stay in the UK. Wish we'd stayed longer.

Our Home in England

  • 5 of 5

We've visited England several times with our children, and always wish to live as a local. We so enjoyed staying in this cottage, for so many reasons. The owners were so helpful when we asked about details of the property (wi-fi equipped) before booking. They were accommodating about the arrival date and time, which helped us with planning our holiday. The Barn itself was so lovely! My kids loved the neat features, interesting windows, and different levels. After a day of sight-seeing, we were so excited to go back to the farm! We liked that it had en suite bathrooms, and one half bath. The kitchen is very well-equipped (so many tea pots and cups/mugs to choose from!), and we loved using an AGA for the first time! Since we were arriving late on Sunday, the owners had surprised us with some food staples, so that we could have a nice cup of tea, cakes, and farm fresh eggs and toast for breakfast the next day! The views from the the windows were amazing! We loved that we were so conveniently located to Bath and the sights we were wanting to explore in Wiltshire, Somerset, the Cotswolds, and even Wales. Our kids now call this barn, "their farm in England", and if they had a choice, would love to live there! The only recommendation we have for the owners, is to provide a collapsable drying rack for clothes. The AGA generates great heat, and the clothes dry very quickly, so having an additional rack so that more clothes can be arranged closer would be nice. Thanks again to the Godwins for welcoming us into their home. We hope to visit "our home in England" again!
