About the property

Cosy Converted Barn in Quiet Hamlet Nr. Bude, Cornwall - Ideal For Stunning North Cornwall/Devon Coastal Walks And Beaches

East Woolley Barn is a converted traditional Cornish stone barn. It has one double bedroom, WIFI, its own private parking and seating area, and en-suite shower room. It’s lovely and cosy with double-glazing and electric heating. We provide towels and pressed bed linen. We can supply a travel cot, bedding, highchair, and baby bath. There are a selection of DVDs, books and games in the barn for guests to enjoy. We welcome one well-behaved, adult, dog. You’ll find our farm easily from the Atlantic Highway (A39), nestled in the peaceful, rural hamlet of Woolley, 9 miles north of Bude.

Although we’re no longer a working farm you’ll be able to see either sheep, cows or bullocks on our 13 acre field for most of the year. Feed the blue tits and finches, and enjoy nearby coastal walks along the stunning south-west coastal path. East Woolley Barn is the perfect base for exploring North Cornwall and Devon. There’s something for everyone. Walkers, photographers, and surfers can enjoy a spectacular stretch of coastline all year round. Nature lovers have the unique Marsland Nature Reserve on their doorstep. Stargazers can benefit from the dark skies, and holidaymakers are spoilt for choice between rocky or sandy beaches, and a huge variety of outdoor activities and places to visit. In our own parish of Morwenstow we have the National Trust's smallest property, Hawker's Hut, clinging to the cliff, and 13C Rectory tearooms and Bush Inn. Nearby we have Welcombe Mouth with its impressive waterfall and rock formations, Hartland Quay and Abbey, Tamar Lakes, and the picturesque fishing village of Clovelly. A short drive south will take you deeper into Cornwall to Bude with its sandy beaches and Sea Pool, whilst a drive north into Devon brings you to the popular resorts of Clovelly, Ilfracombe, Westward Ho and Appledore. It takes only an hour to reach the stunning Areas Of Natural Beauty of Bodmin Moor, Dartmoor and Exmoor.

From Easter 2017 we'll also have a new one bedroom converted Corn Store to offer our guests. It will be an independent first floor conversion with large balcony, wood burner, and stunning views of Marsland Vallely from the mezzanine.

About Riki Riley

When we unexpectedly found ourselves without jobs after many years of commuting to London we decided to do something completely different - a real lifestyle change. So we bought our dream home in North Cornwall and haven't looked back. Our 5 children are independent and still live in SW London. We are proud grandparents to two baby boys and 3 girls. We have two surrogate babies, brothers Bubble and Squeak, who we rescued from Cats Protection in 2015.

We're both keen photographers and walkers - both of which go very much hand in hand here. Martin is a health & safety consultant, and just loves working on the farm. Riki has worked in domiciliary care for over a year and will soon be working in a residential home. High on her list this year is to consolidate her picture framing lessons, and continue lime pointing the farm buildings.

Riki Riley purchased this barn in 2014

Why Riki Riley chose North Cornwall

We knew instantly that this was the home for us. It offers the best of everything - North Cornwall is unspoilt and yet we're just a few miles from some spectacular coastline and beaches. It's in a quiet rural hamlet and yet you can get to the Atlantic Highway (A39) quickly, which links North Devon to South Cornwall. So we're easy to find. Woolley is a very friendly community and made us feel very welcome from the start.

And there are such a variety of things to do - walking, swimming, surfing, eating cream teas, coasteering, gardens and stately homes to name but a few.

What makes this barn unique

You can park outside the cottage, enjoy a glass of wine in the private seating area. From the kitchen window you can watch a variety of birds gorge themselves on the bird feeder.

Our farm overlooks the Marsland Valley which is home to the Marsland Nature Reserve. This boasts a wonderful display of butterflies, ancient woodland and heath that stretches out to the coast, managed by the Devon Wildlife Trust. It is a truly magical, undiscovered spot.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a place this is! A comfortable double bed, (none of that two singles pushed together nonsense), beautiful beamed ceilings, every convenience (including a dish-washer), a view of birds (including a wood-pecker) swinging from the bird-feeders just outside, and a warm welcome from Riki and Martin who did everything to ensure we came to love this place as much as they do. A dossier of information on local places of interest, plus material collected by previous guests and their comments and Riki around to answer questions and offer suggestions, meant we were never at a loss for things to do. Being situated in a small hamlet we felt rural but not isolated, as there are useful shops and a pub in the nearby village of Kilkhampton. (Booked direct with owners)

A great get away

  • 5 of 5

EWB is a delightful cottage in a very peaceful location, yet it also provides easy access to North Devon and Cornwall. There is a personal parking space outside the cottage.

On arrival 2 comfortable sun chairs were awaiting us together with, inside, a lovely welcome card, a bottle of wine & yummy biscuits, so after a long journey what more could you want than to enjoy these gifts relaxing in your own private garden area, in the sunshine & to watch the very busy birds on the feeder across the way, even bird food and binoculars are provided for your use.

The cottage itself is well equipped and spotlessly clean, glasses & crockery gleaming. Everything has been very thoughtfully done and provided for your enjoyment, including such unusual things as a good hairdryer, an umbrella, a change of duvet, depending on ambient temperature and a washing machine & additional freezer space if needed.

There is also an extensive range of information provided, a result of no doubt much hard work. This includes maps, walks, beaches, tide times, places to visit, & places to eat from guest persective, and we used it a lot even though we are familiar with the general area.

Riki and Martin are perfect hosts, being always available to help, yet also respecting your privacy, so we send them our heartfelt thanks for all their thoughtfulness and kindness during our stay and have no hesitation in recommending East Woolley Barn to other visitors and would definitely stay again ourselves if in this area of Devon or Cornwall.

Woolley Barn Bude

  • 4 of 5

A lovely well kept cottage with all the comforts of home, owners provide a warm welcome with excellent information on places of interest, eating establishments and lovely country walks. They are also close at hand for any issues that may arise. Would definately recommend this place for couples - you do need a car to get around as not in walking distance of local amenities

We couldn't have been made more welcome; fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was amazingly well equipped with so many thoughtful touches. It is ideally situated and quiet but within easy reach of all that Cornwall and Devon have to offer. We spent a very happy two weeks, were genuinely sad to leave, and would come back in a heartbeat. Our hosts are lovely, warm people and were very accommodating. The cottage is lovely - and everything works. It gets our highest rating. Thank you, Rikki and Martin

Cosy barn conversion with very helpful host, perfect for a quiet weekend away

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here for a few days with my fiancee, seeking a relaxing few days near the coast - delighted that we found the perfect place for this.

The setting is perfect, very picturesque scenery approaching the farm. The property is very well equipped, with everything you'd need in the kitchen. The barn is a nice mix of traditional and modern on the inside, and is immaculately clean. Perfectly sized for two people for a few days or even a week.

Lots of information about local attractions and recommendations for pubs, beaches and more provided by Riki - this was invaluable in ensuring that we saw the best of what the area has to offer.

Highly recommended, would definitely stay here again!
