Cosy Converted Barn in Quiet Hamlet Nr. Bude, Cornwall - Ideal For Stunning North Cornwall/Devon Coastal Walks And Beaches

East Woolley Barn is a converted traditional Cornish stone barn. The only holiday cottage on the farm, it has one double bedroom, WIFI, its own private parking and seating area, and en-suite shower room. It’s lovely and cosy with double-glazing and electric heating. We provide towels and pressed bed linen. We can supply a travel cot, bedding, highchair, and baby bath. There are a selection of DVDs, books and games in the barn for guests to enjoy. We welcome one well-behaved dog. You’ll find our farm easily from the Atlantic Highway (A39), nestled in the peaceful, rural hamlet of Woolley, 9 miles north of Bude.

Although we’re no longer a working farm you’ll be able to see either sheep, cows or bullocks on our 13 acre field for most of the year. Feed the blue tits and finches, and enjoy nearby coastal walks along the stunning south-west coastal path. East Woolley Barn is the perfect base for exploring North Cornwall and Devon. There’s something for everyone. Walkers, photographers, and surfers can enjoy a spectacular stretch of coastline all year round. Nature lovers have the unique Marsland Nature Reserve on their doorstep. Stargazers can benefit from the dark skies, and holidaymakers are spoilt for choice between rocky or sandy beaches, and a huge variety of outdoor activities and places to visit. In our own parish of Morwenstow we have the National Trust's smallest property, Hawker's Hut, clinging to the cliff, and 13C Rectory tearooms and Bush Inn. Nearby we have Welcombe Mouth with its impressive waterfall and rock formations, Hartland Quay and Abbey, Tamar Lakes, and the picturesque fishing village of Clovelly. A short drive south will take you deeper into Cornwall to Bude with its sandy beaches and Sea Pool, whilst a drive north into Devon brings you to the popular resorts of Clovelly, Ilfracombe, Westward Ho and Appledore. It takes only an hour to reach the stunning Areas Of Natural Beauty of Bodmin Moor, Dartmoor and Exmoor.

About the Owner

When we unexpectedly found ourselves without jobs after many years of commuting to London we decided to do something completely different - a real lifestyle change. So we bought our dream home in North Cornwall and haven't looked back. Our 5 children are independent and still live in SW London. We are proud grandparents to two baby boys and a girl, soon to be joined by another. We have two surrogate babies, brothers Bubble and Squeak, who we rescued from Cats Protection in 2015.

We're both keen photographers and walkers - both of which go very much hand in hand here. Martin is a health & safety consultant, and just loves working on the farm. Riki is training to be a part-time Care Assistant, helps maintain Bude's Sea Pool, and occasionally plays skittles. High on her list this year is to consolidate her picture framing lessons, learn about vegetable growing, and start lime pointing the farm buildings.

What a place this is! A comfortable double bed, (none of that two singles pushed together nonsense), beautiful beamed ceilings, every convenience (including a dish-washer), a view of birds (including a wood-pecker) swinging from the bird-feeders just outside, and a warm welcome from Riki and Martin who did everything to ensure we came to love this place as much as they do. A dossier of information on local places of interest, plus material collected by previous guests and their comments and Riki around to answer questions and offer suggestions, meant we were never at a loss for things to do. Being situated in a small hamlet we felt rural but not isolated, as there are useful shops and a pub in the nearby village of Kilkhampton. (Booked direct with owners)

A great place to stay.

Riki and Martin were great hosts. Friendly and informative. The barn was smartly done. Comfortable and quiet.

We wanted to explore both Devon and Cornwall. So it suited us.

Riki has provided a folder of things to do. Too much to do in a week but helpful none the less.

It's a part of Cornwall we hadn't been to before. Most enjoyable.

Good as ever!

This is the second time we have stayed at Riki and Martin's barn and we were delighted to be back. The accommodation is comfortable and well-equipped and there are plenty of places to visit within a short drive. We expect to be back again next year.

Ten out of ten East Woolley Barn

Following very comprehensive directions we arrived at East Woolley Barn to be greeted warmly by Martin and Riki.Even though we were only 1/2 mile from the A39,we were struck by how quiet the area was.

Riki took us to our home for the next 2 weeks,and we found an immaculately clean,well furnished and comfy barn conversion.The kitchen equipment was plentiful,a nice size fridge,dishwasher and cooker.We found the settee and bed comfy and a nice en-suite.A comprehensive folder of places of interest in Devon and Cornwall ,as it is very close to the border.Books, DVD's,and games also supplied.

Riki and Martin are warm,friendly and generous hosts and nothing is too much trouble.It is clear Riki cares deeply for the comfort and happiness of her visitors and goes the "extra mile" to make that happen.We were also able to feed the numerous birds every day.Food supplied in abundance.We would not hesitate to recommend this property to friends and family.

We have spent many holidays in Devon and Cornwall and re-visited many favourites-Morwenstow,Hartland,Clovelly where we walked off a lovely cream tea from the charming Docton Mill Garden nearby.Boscastle,Tintagel Port Isaac and further afield N.T. Castle Drogo,still being repaired but very interesting.Our beach was Widemouth Bay and Bude is a great town and Quay.While away an hour at the Olive Tree on the Quay.

Our top tip;Get out of your car,don a comfy pair of shoes and take to the coast paths.Then you will see the real beauty of Devon and Cornwall.

A Perfect Week

We had a wonderful week in East Woolley Barn.

The accommodation and facilities are perfect and included everything required for a comfortable self catering holiday. The additional baby items were so useful and made the Barn an ideal place for our first family holiday.

Riki and Martin were so welcoming and obviously care about their guests' enjoyment whilst staying in the Barn; the food and drinks were a very pleasant bonus to arrive to after our long journey.

The rural surroundings and very active bird feeding station provided a lovely atmosphere for our stay. It was nice to return 'home' each evening. We were unfortunate to have a week of very poor weather but being in the Barn made our holiday very enjoyable.

I would certainly recommend this accommodation to anyone who wants to visit the area. It was ideal for us with a small baby but would be just as suitable for a couple or friends looking for a comfortable stay at a very reasonable price.

The propert was clean c0mfortable ,roomy and had everything that you would need for a good stay

Our stay was a very good experience ,we were welcomed on our arrival with a cup of tea and were shown round the property and the facilities .

Ricky and Martin were good hosts and did all they could to make our stay a happy one.

It is a lovely spot in a lovely part of the country and would recommend it to anyone thinking of holidaying in that part of the country'

We knew instantly that this was the home for us. It offers the best of everything - North Cornwall is unspoilt and yet we're just a few miles from some spectacular coastline and beaches. It's in a quiet rural hamlet and yet you can get to the Atlantic Highway (A39) quickly, which links North Devon to South Cornwall. So we're easy to find. Woolley is a very friendly community and made us feel very welcome from the start. And there are such a variety of things to do - walking, swimming, surfing, eating cream teas, coasteering, gardens and stately homes to name but a few.

Coast/Beach:

Morwenstow, a 5 minute drive away, is our nearest stretch of coastline. Here you'll find the 13th century Bush Inn, and Rectory Tea Rooms, both steeped in history. A short walk away you'll stumble across Hawkers Hut, the National Trust's smallest property.

Welcombe Mouth Beach is just 14 minutes drive with its spectacular rock formations.

Sandymouth is our nearest sandy beaches 10 mins, and Bude 15-20 minutes' drive away.

There are many other sandy beaches and rocky coves to explore.

Travel:

Use of a car/car hire is essential.

Airports =

Newquay - 1 hr 10 mins (2014: Edinburgh, major UK cities; Dusseldorf)

Exeter - 1 hr 15 mins (Europe, Tunisia)

Bristol - 3 hrs (Many European destinations)

London Heathrow - 4 hrs (Worldwide destinations)

Stanstead - 4 hrs 30 mins (Europe, Morocco, USA, Mexico)

Distances:

The nearest village with food stores, cafe, Chinese takeaway, is Kilkhampton, 4 miles down the A39.

The nearest town is Bude, 20 minutes' drive away, with supermarkets, an eclectic mix of shops, Sea Pool and two sandy beaches.

Hartland Quay and Abbey are 15 minutes' drive.

Bodmin, Dartmoor, and Exmoor are all 1 hour's drive away.

Further Details:

In Bude the largest supermarket is Morrisons, with a cafe, fishmongers, bakery, delicatessen, and butchers. There's also a small Sainsburys and Co-op. Near Bideford (25 mins) is a large Asda, and in Holsworthy (25 mins) a large Waitrose.

In the Barn we provide comprehensive information, which includes where you can walk dogs on beaches; tourist leaflets covering North Cornwall & Devon; suggested places to eat - from our own experience and our guests' feedback; our recommended places to visit/things to do locally.

The nearest banks are in Bude, but you can withdraw cash at the Premier store which has a Post Office counter from 08.00 - 20.00.

There's a leisure pool, bowling alley, and children's activities adjacent to Morrisons in Bude.

Our local pubs are The Smithy in Welcombe, and the Bush Inn in Morwenstow, both offering food, and about 10 minutes' drive away. The Smithy has a relaxing, 70s theme, whilst the 13th century Bush Inn is more traditional. Dogs are usually welcome in most pubs.

We only have this one holiday cottage so you won't be disturbed by other guests. You can park outside the cottage, enjoy a glass of wine in the private seating area. From the kitchen window you can watch a variety of birds gorge themselves on the bird feeder. Our farm overlooks the Marsland Valley which is home to the Marsland Nature Reserve. This boasts a wonderful display of butterflies, ancient woodland and heath that stretches out to the coast, managed by the Devon Wildlife Trust. It is a truly magical, undiscovered spot.
