Detached Two Bedroom Single Storey Stone Cottage in a Quiet Rural Location

Updated: 08-Sep-2016
Cottage in Bethel, Nr. Caernarfon, North Wales - Countryside Location Centrally Placed for Exploring Snowdonia and the Isle of Anglesey

The "Old Stables" is a detached single storey stone cottage at Gwyndy, an historic and very beautiful former farmstead off a little lane about a mile above the Menai Straits. There is a wealth of wildlife in the surrounding area, much of which is wild countryside, and there are country walks or cycle rides on quiet lanes directly from the cottage. An easy ten minute walk leads to a country pub serving excellent food (and beer!) and with views to Snowdon.

About the Owner

I married my husband Gareth, a restorer of antiques and vintage cars, 46 years ago, and we have owned "Gwyndy" for most of that time. I worked in the antiques business specialising in antique ceramics and have just completed my third novel, yet to be published. I enjoy walking and cookery.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words. We work hard to maintain the high standard and value for money that our cottages at Gwyndy represent, and are constantly seeking ways to improve the holiday experience of our guests. It's heartening to know that we are getting it right.

We stayed here over the Easter weekend and had a fabulous time. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed by a gorgeous freshly lit fire in the lounge and the cottage is spotlessly clean. There is everything you need in the cottage, and a beautiful garden and ample parking. There is also wifi available and sat tv. It is just down the road from Greenwoods - which is worth a visit if you have children - and very near to Anglesey. We are a family of four - two children aged 10 and 11 and we also had a small dog with us. Thank you and look forward to visiting again soon.

The Old Stables accommodation here is excellent!

My husband and I stayed here during the summer holidays of 2013 with our two sons aged 3 and 6. The old Stables had everything you could want from a self-catering accommodation.

The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed, the beds were very comfortable and the whole place was very clean – just how we had hoped it would be. Although we didn’t make use of the outside eating area and BBQ, we were impressed with the lovely garden, ample parking, privacy from the other guests and our kids thoroughly enjoyed feeding the pony in the field next door!

What also impressed us about staying here was its location – ideally situated right between Caernarfon, Bangor and Llanberis. We had a fabulous time exploring a variety of tourist attractions and can’t wait to go back this summer to see more!

Owner's Response: Thank you Colette for your kind words. That you are coming back again is our best recommendation. We are off course biased, but consider this to be one of the best areas for a holiday in the U.K. Our cottages at "Gwyndy" are centrally located for exploring both Snowdonia & Anglesey and the variety of interests catered for is unsurpassed, I'm sure that there will be plenty that you haven't yet seen, if you would like some fresh ideas for a day out just ask! We look forward to welcoming you back this Summer. Juliette Morgan

From the Owner

We both fell in love with "Old Stables" when first we saw it in 1970, despite it's then overgrown and derelict state. It is in a quiet and secluded spot in the countryside, yet despite the peaceful location it's not remote, the Brittania bridge on to the Isle of Anglesey where there are superb beaches, is only 4 miles away, and Llanberis, the village at the foot of Mount Snowdon, about 5 miles. The property is situated only 4 miles from the North Wales Expressway which connects with the motorway network, so we can drive to Chester, Liverpool or Manchester in a surprisingly short time.

From the Owner

Everybody who stays here remarks on the peaceful feel of the Old Stables, which makes it a perfect base for a relaxing holiday. The old stone buildings standing in lawned gardens with woodlands beyond add to this sense of calm, and you won't believe how many of our guests have asked if they could buy the place ! We like to walk through the countryside to the friendly pub on the crossroads about two-thirds of a mile away. If you book a table on the gallery there you can have a grandstand view of Snowdonia whilst enjoying good food . The cottage has an open fire for which we supply unlimited quantities of logs from our own woodland, plus instructions on how to light them for the UN-initiated !
