La Pouyade (Sleeps 7); combine with other property to sleep 11

17th Century Farmhouse with a secluded garden and a courtyard shaded by a large lime tree within the tiny hamlet of La Pouyade.

Wonderful property with large bedrooms, traditional antique furniture and modern touches.

Linen and towels including beach towels provided.

About the property

FR22709

Spend a relaxing holiday away from everything in these charming properties in the small countryside hamlet of Villetoureix, conveniently located 10 mins drive from the market town of Riberac.

If you are feeling more adventurous, there are plenty of beautiful towns to explore nearby. Our personal favourites include Auberterre (market town, swimming, canoes), Perigord (farmers markets) and Brantome (further details below on more locations).

The Properties

We have two properties that are next door to each other and can be rented separately or together. When rented together we can open the internal garden gates so it feels like one property (sleeps 11-12 together).

The House (3 Bed, sleeps 7)

Step back in time and relax as you close off the rest of the world in this traditional 17th Century French farmhouse. The charm of the main house is that it is largely unchanged. All the rooms are furnished with French antiques and many of the original features are retained including the oak wooden flooring, wooden paneling in the living room and the quaint wallpaper.

The heart of this family home is it's simple kitchen with black and white tiled floor and large kitchen table. This connects through to the ground level cellar complete with old wine barrels (empty we’re afraid!), and the comfy living room to the right. The staircase leads to 3 extremely large bedrooms and the modernised bathroom. All the windows of this house are large and have traditional shutters.

The Cottage (3 Bed, sleeps 4 to 5)

The recently modernised cottage is a delight with beautiful large open modern kitchen and living room. Upstairs there are 2 double bedrooms (1 twin, 1 double) each with an ensuite (1 bath, 1 shower); plus a small single bedroom, suitable for child (person 5). Old beams and low ceilings give this property oodles of charm.

Both properties have outside areas to relax in and access to BBQ and sun beds (House: brick BBQ, Cottage: gas BBQ). The House has some vine covered paths and an old Lime Tree which hangs over the internal courtyard. At The Cottage enjoy the large lawn and covered outside eating area in one of the barns that flank the property. Push bikes available on request. Please note, there is no WiFi at either property or TV.

There is a large shared meadow, located at the bottom of our properties. This has become a bit of a nature reserve, with wild flowers, cherry, walnut and other trees, and several nesting birds and a hedgehog or two!

There is plenty of off road parking on the lane opposite the main house.

Location

Located in the tiny secluded hamlet, the village is just a short walk away, and has a small shop selling almost everything as well as a bar/restaurant and a magnificent church.

Walk a little further down the hill and you will come across a small sports facility, right next to the river.

The nearest town of Riberac is only a 10 min drive and has a market every Friday, 2 big supermarkets as well as many places to eat and drink; you can get WiFi at most cafes, which is generally offered free.

If you are feeling more adventurous, there are lots of lovely towns to explore nearby. Our personal favourites include Auberterre, Perigord and Brantome. Go swimming, visit the town or hire canoes in Auberterre (only 20-30 mins drive); Perigord (about 45 mins drive) has a fantastic farmers market every Wednesday set beneath the stunning Cathedral and cobbled streets. Brantome (again about 45 mins drive) is a great lunch or supper stop on route home. Bergerac has a market on Saturday and Angouleme's markets are on a Thursday. Bordeaux is a further to drive (about 2hrs), but well worth it.

If you are looking for a relaxing holiday where you can submerge yourself in the French countryside and way of living, enjoying fresh produce and fine wine, then this is the property for you.

Please contact us if you’re looking to stay for more than two weeks or wishing to rent both properties - on request we would be happy to offer a 10% discount, depending on availability.

About Gwyn Jones

Gwyn and Lorayne Jones are farmers in West Sussex, the property is managed by their daughter, Elin.

This is our family home and we have been holidaying here frequently for nearly 30 years. We love the peace and quiet, the rural location and of course the beautiful French food and wine.

Gwyn Jones purchased this farmhouse in 1980

Why Gwyn Jones chose Perigord Vert

We came to Riberac many years ago for our first European holiday. Over the 2 weeks of that first trip we really fell in love with the area and the whole experience ... so much so that we ended up buying this property in the small hamlet of La Pouyade.

We've tried to keep the main house as we bought it, retaining much of its 17th century charm. We bought the farm buildings and cottage a few years later to restore the property to one, and recently modernised the cottage to a high standard.

If you're looking for a place to relax and a base to explore the area from, then look no further. The simplicity of the property and rural charm of the area will make you forget the stresses of the modern world almost immediately.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Relax under the shade of the lime tree in the courtyard, or find a spot elsewhere in the garden for some peace and quiet and a spot of sunbathing.

The house has three spacious wonderful French style bedrooms (sleeps 7) with period antique furniture and a modern bathroom with impressive shower. Downstairs has a large farmhouse kitchen and sitting-room with antique furniture.

The cottage is a touch more modern, but still has plenty of character. With 2 en-suite bedrooms and one small single (sleeps 4-5) a spacious kitchen and sitting room, this is also a great option.

There are sunbeds, BBQ and bicycles provided.

The property is within easy reach of river and lake swimming, market towns, and restaurants.

A wonderful escape

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful, tranquil escape to rural France. This was a Spring getaway and the property didn't disappoint. The gardens has just started to flower and looked beautiful. Although situated in a small town, once you close the gates it really does feel very secluded and offered just the escape i was after.

The main house is very spacious, has all the original features and wonderful antique French furniture. I was also pleasingly surprised by the cottage which internally has been modernised to a very high spec yet again has some lovely features. We particularly enjoyed the huge kitchen table where lots of fun was had from plenty of red wine and card games.

Would thoroughly recommend staying here and look forward to returning soon.
