About the Owner

Hi! I am Christine Gregson and together with my husband, George, we own and run two self-catering cottages and two static caravans. In 1990 we purchased Seagull Cottage in Seahouses, a converted fisherman's cottage just a stone's throw from the harbour where one can obtain one of the most iconic views in Northumberland - Bamburgh Castle. There are miles of beautiful sandy beaches nearby but we are well located for shops, restaurants etc. Nine years ago we also purchased Dalilea Bungalow, Acharacle, Argyll in Ardnamurchan, after falling in love with the area and its breathtaking scenery. We own 2.5 acres and have installed 2x 30ft. caravans for our guests, many of whom are repeat bookers. Indeed, our own children and their families love the area where they delight in many outdoor sports.

Stunning location

  • 3 of 5

This is a lovely cottage in a fantastic spot providing everything we wanted for a week of biking and boating, even had good weather! The only thing that let it down was the floors seemed quite dirty with lots of dog or pet hairs, something you notice when on the floor playing with little ones, and every time we can in and out there was an overwhelming smell of damp animal I guess, although this did go with doors and windows open when we were in. But despite that would still recommend and go back. Thanks.

Owner's Response: The bungalow and caravans are in a stunning location. The bungalow itself is lovely. Ample biking and boating storage facilities in the form of a large secure shed is available in the grounds for our guests to use if required. There is also ample parking for clients who bring their own trailered boats, canoes and kayaks etc. Please see the website. Sincere apologies for the dog hairs. One of the disadvantages of allowing dogs into the property. You can rest assured that this will be dealt with by our cleaning staff. In fact within each of the units their should be a contact information sheet available for all our guests on which there is a telephone number of our property manager who can be contacted to sort out any problems. We are most appreciative of the fact that we have a good level of repeat custom.

From the Owner

The area is renowned for its unique splendour and is one of the most unspoilt regions in the Highlands, from the rugged mountains to one of the many beautiful beaches and coves abundant in the area. Because of this and its remoteness we were instantly attracted to the area. It is however within a reasonable commute of Fort William and Mallaig where one can take the Ferry to The Isle of Skye. During the season the well-known Harry Potter "Hogwart's Express" runs from Fort William to Mallaig.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Barpub : Acharacle at 4 Miles Nearest Restaurant : Glenuig at 6 Miles Nearest Beach : Castle Tioram at 5 Miles

Special interest holidays:

Ardnamurchan is well known for it's unique splendour and is one of the most unspoilt regions in the Highlands. One can visit at any time of year and be enthralled by the natural beauty of the area. There is also an abundance of wildlife - otters, golden eagles, seals, porpoises, pine martens and red deer (which can be spotted a short walk up the hill to the back of the site).

Nearby are some wonderful beaches for which the West Coast is renowned, fed by the balmy Atlantic Gulf Stream, namely Dorlin, Ardtoe and Glenuig bay.

Follow the A82 northeastwards from Fort WIlliam and after 2 miles turn left on to the Mallaig (A830) at The Road to the Isles BP Filling Station. At Lochaillort (27 miles) turn left on to the A861. Travel for 15 miles to the "Dalilea" sign. Continue on the main road for a further 100 yards until you come to a gate with "The Old Poor House" on - this is where we are. Once through the gate, bear left, we are at the end of the drive.

From the adjacent hills of Moidart can be seen the Hebridean Isles of Rhum, Eigg & Muck. The nearest village, Acharacle, is 4 miles away where there is a mini-supermarket, post-office w/ the Blue Parrot café attached, a bakery, fish & chip shop, 2 hotels/restaurants serving delicious home-cooked food, outdoor shop & garage suitable for repair work (fuel can be obtained from Strontian, Mallaig & Fort William). Doctors & dentist nearby. The bungalow & caravans are 35 miles west of Fort William.

From the Owner

There is an abundance of wildlife in the area, namely red deer, eagles, seals, otters, indeed, there is a resident pine marten in the garden shed. Fishing is also very popular with the jetty at Loch Shiel only a mile away where canoes and kayaks can be launched. Although Dalilea is private, it is a short distance (4 miles) from the village of Acharacle where there is a shop, bakehouse, Post Office/Cafe and two restaurant/hotels serving delicious home-cooked food. Dalilea has three units - one bungalow and two 30 ft. caravans which are fully equipped and have their own privacy. It also has the potential to cater for up to 18 people if taken as a whole for groups of family or friends. The grounds amount to 2.5 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens and sunart oak woodlands.
