We live in the New Forest and really enjoy an outdoor lifestyle; walking, cycling and gardening. I am a Geography teacher and my husband is an engineer. Our three children all love the chalet and what the valley has to offer. Our eldest loves the skiing, while the adventurous middle child adores the summer hiking and spontaneous mountain lake swims and our youngest tries to have as many myrtle tarts as possible what ever the season! Our pet dog often comes with us to the chalet and he seems to enjoy it as much as we all do!
Bridgette Fraser purchased this chalet in 2003
Our whole family loves skiing and once we had visited the Abondance valley in 2000 it seemed the perfect place for us to find somewhere for more regular mountain holidays. We don't know which season we prefer as each has its merits and huge variety. We were looking for something small but once we saw this chalet sitting alongside the river we fell for it. The chalet was in a half renovated state with an overgrown garden. The chalet was built by a local farmer who kept goats in one cave and sheep in the other. We found the two original balcony designs and have had them remade in the Savoyard style. A lot of work was undertaken both inside and out and we were soon able to stay there as a family. We like being in a secluded setting but not far from any of the facilities in the valley.
The chalet is just off the main D22 road but you do not here any loud road noise as it sits well below the road level. From the D22 the gravel lane drops quickly down past a three other buildings directly to the chalet before it crosses over the river.
Linen, towels and firewood is included. Cleaning is an additional charge upon your departure.
The kitchen is a really good size and several can help prepare a meal which adds to the fun. With lots of different spacious sitting areas any children or teenagers can enjoy getting away from the adults. The extensive balcony is lovely to sit on at all times of day but especially in the evening when the sun catches the river bank. The 80 year old wooded chalet always amazes us by how warm it is in the winter or cool on the hot summer days. The garden is south facing and very sheltered. The new path along the river means you can go either way along the picturesque path, away from the traffic, to the lovely villages. Abondance or La Chapelle takes 25mins walking/15m by bike.
"The week was amazing…. The Chalet was so warm and welcoming and a delightful retreat at the end of the day… We really do hope to come again."
"We all had a great time. Your restaurants recommendations were super. Thank you for letting us use your lovely home"
La Bergeronette is in a lovely setting; we enjoyed sitting in the shade in the garden by the river. The chalet was spacious, and well equipped for our party of 11; everything was clean and up together. The relaxed and friendly attitude of the owners was obvious in the emails we exchanged before we went, and Bridgette couldn't have been more helpful with her suggestions of walks, most of which we used. I would strongly recommend this chalet to anyone.
