Riverside Spacious Savoyard Chalet Perfectly Set In A Large Garden Pet Friendly

Overview

Property

Updated: 29-Nov-2016
Chalet in Richebourg, Abondance near Chatel, Haute Savoie, Rhone-Alpes, France (Portes du Soliel) - Ski All Day Then Laze By The Log Fire. Walk Along The Riverside To The Shops

An Alpine riverside retreat that offers a unique level of home comfort with generous living space and bedrooms providing a relaxed atmosphere for your holiday. Flexible accommodation means that the whole chalet with its five bedrooms sleeps 10 or you can rent the main floor which has one master bedroom and all the spacious facilities. Either way there is plenty of space. For 2 people there is nothing like this in the valley.

Full of traditional beams and character with 2 balconies and a large garden to enjoy the mountain and riverside views. South facing and looking across to the Mont du Grange Nature Reserve the chalet has a special character with the sound of the river allowing you to instantly unwind. The Abondance valley and beyond offer so many winter and summer time recreational facilities that it is hard to say which is the best time to go.

The chalet is a short distance from the main valley road but it is tucked into its own private and natural setting with lawns stretching to a long river frontage. (Fishing permits not included). 4WD is recommended for winter access and winter tyres or chains are a legal requirement. There is parking for 3 cars.

Skis can be stored in the cave below the chalet if needed. Bicycles can also be stored here safely. Up to two well behaved dogs are welcome.

A wide variety of winter activities are available in the valley. The beauty of the winter landscape can be enjoyed by all.

The Portes du Soliel has many access point and many are nearby; Cret Beni (5mins), La Panthiaz (6mins), Chatel (10 mins), Linga (12mins), Pre la Joux (15mins). A Portes du Soliel pass will allow you to ski as far as Avoriaz, Morzine and Les Gets in France or Champbery and Les Crozets in Switzerland. Ski the "Wall" and the "Coupe du Monde" before a great lunch in the Linderet valley at one of the many great restaurants. Alternatively local ski passes can be beauty allowing you to enjoy the less busy areas with fantastic off piste areas. Ski hire discount is available for clients staying at our chalet.

Cross Country skiing is increasingly popular and the piste du fond is just over the bridge across the river by the chalet. Equipment can be easily hired locally. The nearby slopes are perfect for sledging here and there are attractive walks to be had along the river and snow covered meadows. You can go dog sledding, have a 2hr cross country lesson, take guided treks with snowshoes or "raquettes", or simple walk along the cleared paths enjoying the glistening landscape.

In the summertime the valley offers so many outdoor pursuits that you could easily do something different each day. The mountains are covered in well signed footpaths with hikes to suitable for all ranges of fitness. The ski lifts operate during the peak weeks and offer great value as a 'Multipass" ticket includes entrance to the local swimming pools and museums as well. There are fabulous valleys to discover with no ski lifts in sight such as the magnificent Col du Bise. Many scenic viewpoints can be reached on foot and give panoramic views of the alpine meadows grazed by the Abondance cows, local mountain peaks and Lake Geneva. Mountain biking is very popular and there are extensive routes but cycling can also be done more leisurely along the new path linking Chalet to Abondance. River rafting takes place in the scenic gorge 15 mins towards Evian. Take a boat trip on Lake Geneva or simply enjoy one of the beaches or good public swimming pools. Chamonix and Monte Blanc are just a day trip away.

Many festival and cultural events take place throughout the year varying from Rock the Piste,La Grande Odyssee in the winter to the very popular La Belle Dimanche in August. Weekly markets are held in all the villages. There are a few local museums and a library. All year round spas are a short drive away in Switzerland at Val-d'Illiez and Lavey les Bains.

The new riverside valley path is now fully constructed and unique in the Alps for the way it joins the neighbouring communes. The fine gravel path is just across the bridge and means you can easily walk or cycle to the villages along a pleasant meandering path safely away from the traffic.

About the Owner

We live in the New Forest and really enjoy an outdoor lifestyle; walking, cycling and gardening. I am a Geography teacher and my husband is an engineer. Our three children all love the chalet and what the valley has to offer. Our eldest loves the skiing, while the adventurous middle child adores the summer hiking and spontaneous mountain lake swims and our youngest tries to have as many myrtle tarts as possible what ever the season! Our pet dog often comes with us to the chalet and he seems to enjoy it as much as we all do!

Spacious, attractive and welcoming

La Bergeronette is in a lovely setting; we enjoyed sitting in the shade in the garden by the river. The chalet was spacious, and well equipped for our party of 11; everything was clean and up together. The relaxed and friendly attitude of the owners was obvious in the emails we exchanged before we went, and Bridgette couldn't have been more helpful with her suggestions of walks, most of which we used. I would strongly recommend this chalet to anyone.

Location

From the Owner

Our whole family loves skiing and once we had visited the Abondance valley in 2000 it seemed the perfect place for us to find somewhere for more regular mountain holidays. We don't know which season we prefer as each has its merits and huge variety. We were looking for something small but once we saw this chalet sitting alongside the river we fell for it. The chalet was in a half renovated state with an overgrown garden. The chalet was built by a local farmer who kept goats in one cave and sheep in the other. We found the two original balcony designs and have had them remade in the Savoyard style. A lot of work was undertaken both inside and out and we were soon able to stay there as a family. We like being in a secluded setting but not far from any of the facilities in the valley.

Facilities

From the Owner

The chalet is just off the main D22 road but you do not here any loud road noise as it sits well below the road level. From the D22 the gravel lane drops quickly down past a three other buildings directly to the chalet before it crosses over the river. Linen, towels and firewood is included. Cleaning is an additional charge upon your departure. The kitchen is a really good size and several can help prepare a meal which adds to the fun. With lots of different spacious sitting areas any children or teenagers can enjoy getting away from the adults. The extensive balcony is lovely to sit on at all times of day but especially in the evening when the sun catches the river bank. The 80 year old wooded chalet always amazes us by how warm it is in the winter or cool on the hot summer days. The garden is south facing and very sheltered. The new path along the river means you can go either way along the picturesque path, away from the traffic, to the lovely villages. Abondance or La Chapelle takes 25mins walking/15m by bike.
