Cottage in Dufton, Nr. Penrith, Cumbria, England - Peaceful, picturesque but very accessible, great facilities for celebrating a special occasion

Welcome to Fellside cottages, a group of four spacious cottages and barn conversions with a hot tub and sauna, sleeping up to 30, but well suited to couples or smaller groups and families as well. We have ideal facilities for either a relaxed or an active break. We are situated in the Eden Valley in Cumbria, in the peaceful and picturesque village of Dufton, a conservation area easily reached from the M6 or the A1. Our traditional village pub, which serves good food and real ale, is within easy walking distance, as is the village tea shop. The beautiful countryside that surrounds us gives numerous and varied walking and cycling opportunities right from the doorstep. We look straight out onto the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with the stunning day walk of High Cup Nick right on the doorstep, as well as many less strenuous walks in the lovely Eden Valley. We are also located within easy driving distance of the Lakes, the Yorkshire Dales, Hadrian’s Wall, the Solway coast and Scotland. The cottages are very dog friendly and the area is perfect for a holiday with your pet. 4 cottages (sleeping 4, 8, 8 and 10) have full self catering facilities, and all are decorated and equipped to a high standard, to provide luxurious accommodation whilst retaining numerous traditional features. We have plenty of space for groups to get together for socialising, including our newly available group dining/socialising space, the Granary, but there are also spaces to have time apart. We also have facilities for small or large groups to celebrate special occasions, including a marquee, and we can provide many options and ideas for catering. Activities available through local providers include canoeing, cycle hire, climbing, ghyll scrambling, historical guided walks, horse or pony riding, golf, off-road driving, fishing and even an aerial rope playground and a zip wire half way up a mountain. Alternatively you can visit an ice cream farm, go wine tasting or just relax in the sauna, hot tub or garden and enjoy our unique dome. For short breaks we try to be flexible with arrival and departure times to allow our guests as long a stay as possible. If you have any questions or special requests please do get in touch. SHORT BREAK PRICES - we do short breaks, min 2 nights with the third night at a much reduced rate, all year around except for Christmas and New Year. CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR BREAKS - I am sorry but we can only offer weekly pricing at these times.

Outside: Our sauna and hot tub are indoors but look out onto the hills with a spectacular view of Dufton Pike. Our unique dome which gets lit up at night provides a special venue for pre dinner drinks or just relaxing, whatever the weather. By day it is a sheltered sanctuary. All properties have gardens or outdoor seating areas and guests have use of our field and undercover BBQ area plus gas BBQ (free to use). Plenty of outdoor furniture for relaxing and enjoying the spectacular views of the Pennine hills. Utility Room: All have washing machines, some with dryers too. Great stay at Fellside

We had a great new year break at the cottages. There was a very large party and the cottages were perfect for us all to be together. Lovely village and friendly residents. We even got involved in the annual NYD cart racing.

the cottages have everything you need and there is lots of space for cooking and eating together. Liam and Sue are very helpful.

Wonderful property in a wonderful location...

The kind and thoughtful owners have created an environment where people can find what they need, whether it is adventure or peace and tranquility.

The properties are perfectly maintained and are clean and comfortable; the views are stunning and the additional spaces provided for people to wander or gather in groups are charming.

We were lucky to find a cottage free at short notice (the cottages are increasingly popular with family groups). The owners could not have been more helpful and were there when we needed them - and discreetly absent when the environment had worked its magic and I fell soundly asleep while watching house martins from a comfortable patio swing! All is well with the world at Fellside Cottages.

Fantastic stay

What a fantastic group of cottages. The photographs don't do them justice. 22 of us descended on Fellside cottages for my mum's 70th birthday. We were met by one of the owners Liam, who was very friendly and polite. He introduced us to the beautifully furnished and very spacious cottages. We had no arguments of where we would all sleep as all of the bedrooms were very comfortable. Even our dog was made to feel welcome and he enjoyed the large field and the walk through the woods. There was more than enough room for us all and the main topic of conversation was how nice the accommodation was. Liam and Sue were very friendly and left us to our own devices, yet we were comforted with the knowledge that we just needed to ask if we needed any help. Thank you both. You should be very proud of your cottages.

Special interest holidays:

We are setting up art and cookery weekends and would love to hear from any guests who would like to attend one of these. We will also be running outdoor activities weekends - please ask for details but this is likely to include canoeing and ghyll scrambling.


Manchester Airport is about 2 hours drive away. Trains go to Penrith, 25 mins drive away, where a car can be hired.

Access to a car is recommended for breaks longer than 2 days.


Our village of Dufton is 3 miles from the market town of Appleby or 11 miles from Penrith. There are many places of interest within a 10 mile radius including castles, walks, and an ice cream farm.

Further Details:

Our local pub serves good food and real ale, and we have a tea shop in the village too. Banks are available in Appleby, as are the Co-op and Spar shops plus a butchers and a bakers.

Prices for a third night are half of the nightly rate.
Changeover Day:
Changeover day is fully flexible outside peak periods, and either Friday or Saturday during the peak season.
We try to be as flexible as we can with arrival and departure times to allow our guests the longest possible break.

Notes on prices:
It is not possible to display our prices fully here but as a guide we aim for £38/£31 per person per night for 2/3 night short breaks off season and £41.50/£33.25 per person per night for peak short breaks. Our weekly rates work out around £22/£23.75 per person per night for off season/peak season breaks.
Bookings are per property, not per person, and the above is all based on full occupancy.
