This charming one bedroom apartment in the tree-lined residential area of Notting Hill west London has a pretty garden and is furnished with antiques and original pictures. It has a newly equipped kitchen and bathroom, separate dining room and study. It is ideal for anyone wanting to enjoy the sights of London, theatreland and West End restaurants with tube and buses nearby. Only one minutes walk from the famous Portobello antiques market and public transport there is a wide range of local shops and restaurants as well as two cinemas only a few minutes away.

Why Lorna Bourke chose North Kensington

I originally bought the apartment for my younger daughter and I lived nearby elsewhere in Notting Hill.

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment in fashionable Notting Hill is completely self contained with a pretty garden and is only a few hundred yards from public transport (Ladbroke Grove tube which is on the Hammersmith & City line - convenient for Heathrow and Heathrow express from nearby Paddington). Buses, taxis, local restaurants and shops (Tesco and Sainsbury's local which are both open until midnight) are only a hundred yards away. The famous Portobello Road antiques market is just one minute's walk and West End theatres and restaurants are no more than a 15 minute tube journey.

The apartment has a wide screen smart TV with Sky Sport HD as well as broadband, Bose CD player and Ipod dock. The kitchen is fully equipped with a separate dining room and a small study. All linen and cleaning is provided.

We have just arrived back in Cornwall. Your apartment was delightful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We seem to have had a hectic time-we went to the opera at Covent Garden (wonderful), the PRB exhibition at the Tate Britain and saw a film at the most luxurious cinema we have ever been to, the Electric Cinema on the Portobello Road! Just like home --- maybe better.

Could not have had a more comfortable, convenient and attractive place to return to each day. The owner was so helpful and responsive and went out of her way to make sure all was well for us. The apartment was well equipped with everything one could possibly need. We look forward to our return. The tube and buses just round the corner.

Nice experience ... once we got organized and used to the apartment.

A lovely apartment ... but the neighborhood was quite run down... and the entry (down steep stairs and into the below ground floor apartment) was surprising and could be challenging for many. Lovely art work and decor ... too bad the garden overlooks a freeway overpass! Too much furniture jammed into this nice Pied a terre.

A charming place for a get away

The apartment is plenty big for two people. Any more and it will get crowded fast. Everything is comfy, artsy, shabby chic. The kitchen is well equipped. The bed and s firm and comfortable. The bathroom has sufficient counter space and water pressure. The tub is long enough to really relax into it.

The garden was charming even during chilly February. The entry is a little tricky with narrow, steep stairs that should be a serious consideration for older or physically challenged guests.

The area has good amenities and it is super easy to catch a cab or hop on the Tube. The apartment is on the edge of Nottinghill and a bit of a transitional area. We felt totally safe at all times. That said, there was a fight on the street late Saturday night and the police were right out front with lights flashing for 30 minutes as the searched for the combatants.

Portobello Road is half a block away which made for excellent shopping with ease of bring arm loads of treasures back to the apartment.

We would absolutely stay here again. Oh, and Lorna is great to work with.

Lovely Flat in Notting Hill/North Kensington

We would highly recommend Lorna’s apartment while staying in London. We arrived to find a lovely welcome note from Lorna, the heat had been turned on and was just right, there was fresh milk in the frig, and tea and coffee were available for brewing. The apartment was filled with books, music, art, and comfortable furniture. We felt right at home. The kitchen is adequately stocked for all your cooking needs, including a washer/dry and dishwasher, gas oven and cooktop, and a microwave. The electric teakettle made brewing tea and coffee easy in the morning. The bathroom has a lovely shower and a separate deep tub for soaking those tired muscles after a long day of walking around the city! Plenty of plush towels are provided. My favorite room was the dining room – it felt as if I were sitting in the garden even though I was inside. The apartment is quiet despite it’s proximity to a busy road. There are several grocery stores (Tesco and Sainsbury) and restaurants within walking distance. Portobello Road Market is only a block away. The neighborhood is very walkable. The Tube station (Ladbroke Grove) and bus stop (52, 452) are 1-2 short blocks away. We used the Underground to/from Heathrow and the trip takes less than an hour with only 1 transfer. We recommend the 7-day Oyster Card with unlimited travel. We would highly recommend this little gem in Notting Hill/North Kensington and would stay here again without hesitation.

Travel:

Heathrow is 30 minutes away by taxi or tube (Piccadilly and Hammersmith & City Line). Gatwick and Stansted can both be reached by tube with the nearest tube station being Ladbroke Grove which goes direct to Liverpool Street (for Stansted) and Paddington (for Heathrow Express). Victoria for Gatwick is one change away at Baker Street. There are plenty of taxis which service all the main line stations or drive direct to any London airport.

Distances:

Notting Hill is in a residential area of West London and all places of interest in London can be reached by public transport within 15 minutes (West End theatres and restaurants) or around 45 minutes to places like Kew Gardens, O2 Arena and Greenwich.

Further Details:

Local facilities include late night shopping at Tesco and Sainsbury's both selling everything from fresh meat and vegetables to basic groceries and both with ATMs. There are good local restaurants (pizza, Chinese, Indian Turkish, Italian etc) with several takeaways for those who don't want to cook. Notting Hill has one of the best fish and chip restaurants in London (Geales) as well as a branch of Itsu (Japanese). There is also a local hairdresser, optician, dentist, doctor, several pharmacies and a wide range of other shops.
