About this property

Surrounded by meadows, super views, log fire, great walking! Alton Towers 12km

THE ORCHARDS near ILAM is a large detached country property based on a FARM near Dovedale in the Peak District National Park.

It has amazing views and is surrounded by meadows and private bluebell woods. This homely cottage is the perfect place for families and friends to get together, yet secluded and snug enough for couples wanting a romantic hideaway with a cosy log fire.

This area of the Staffordshire Peak District is a birdwatching paradise, from ravens to redstarts and sometimes kingfishers! Bring your binoculars.
"Some of the best walking country in England" right on your doorstep. After an exhilarating hike, enjoy a delicious lunch at one of the many good local pubs.

ALTON TOWERS 12 km. Dovedale, Bike trails (with bike hire), Ilam Park National Trust, quiet leafy lanes, sailing at Carsington, and much more. Derby, Stoke and Buxton around 30 km. Chatsworth, Haddon, Bakewell all just a short drive away.

IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE
9 STEPS up to the front door.
NO PETS.

A wide oak-floored entrance hall leads to all other rooms. Three bedrooms to accommodate up to six people - one twin room, one double and one with full-sized bunk beds (very popular with children but quite adequate for adults). Snuggle into comfy beds and wake up to green fields and birdsong.

Feel like chilling out? Just light the log fire, put your feet up and watch the world go by (mainly sheep) through huge picture windows.

Sunlight streams into the separate dining room with delicious views over the Manifold Valley. In Spring watch the lambs playing in the fields outside the cottage.

The well-equipped kitchen has everything you would expect from a Four Star property, and a sparkling bathroom with bath / shower completes the picture.

Play games or lounge about on the surrounding lawns. There is also a garage for your car or your bikes.

The cottage is owner managed and attention to detail is paramount.

Beautiful rural location
Stayed here with a group of old friends to enjoy walking and biking. Perfect location although we were slightly let down by the wet weather! The property had everything we needed and Vanessa was very helpful with all the details to make it a lovely experience. Only downside was the Broadband which was sporadic and although some of us had a phone signal I personally didn't.

Host profile image
I am a farmer's wife with a love for nature and the countryside. I have owned The Orchards cottage since 1984 and over the years of meeting guests I have made many good friends who return again and again.

Why they chose this property

The Orchards cottage was bought as part of the farm and it seemed the logical thing to rent it out as a holiday home as this is such a beautiful and popular area. I am so glad we did as it has been a source of great pleasure and interest, and meeting new people who then become friends has been the best of all.

What makes this property unique

This is a great base for exploring all parts of the Peak District, Derbyshire Dales and the Staffordshire Moorlands. It is centrally placed in England so easy to reach wherever you are. FANTASTIC walking country, some of the best in England. Scenic Dovedale nearby and Alton Towers just 12 km. Chatsworth, Bakewell, Buxton, Haddon Hall, the Potteries, Uttoxeter Races, Trentham Monkey Forest and so much more, all within easy reach.

60 km from Manchester airport and 60 from East Midlands Airport.

A smart, comfortable and very spacious cottage offering perfect peace and tranquillity with stunning views. For speed and excitement visit Alton Towers or go sailing at Carsington reservoir nearby. Walks from the door, great bird watching and wildlife, space for the kids to run around, wonderful historic houses - really there is something to suit everyone.

Lovely DARK SKIES to enjoy stargazing.
