2 Draycott Hall is an attractive, two bedroomed, ground floor holiday apartment set in the picturesque hamlet of Fremington in Swaledale between the popular villages of Reeth and Grinton in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales . This welcoming holiday apartment overlooks the craggy hillside of Harkerside and is perfectly situated to explore the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The apartment has recently been tastefully refurbished to a high standard whilst retaining much of the Yorkshire Dales charm.

About Hannah Wallington

We came here on retirement from our own business. We knew the area well because we had been coming here for years. We used to come to Liz’s uncle’s holiday cottage in High Fremington and her brother’s cottage in Low Row.

Liz’s father was born in the Black Bull, Reeth which his parents owned and ran as did several previous generations on his mother’s side. The photographs in the hall of our apartment show her grandmother, great grandfather and great-great grandfather together outside the Black Bull.

Our eldest son, Andrew, is the landlord of the Bridge Inn, Grinton and has been for over ten years now. He came to stay with us and ended up taking over our local! We help out occasionally, Liz typically with the puddings and cooking breakfast, me on the bar and as the odd job man!

Why Hannah Wallington chose Yorkshire Dales

We bought this apartment a few years ago for our youngest son, Ian and his wife, Lisa, to live in. He was a chef at the Bridge Inn at the time. They moved out the end of 2013 to start up a new restaurant in Billingham, The Peppermill Bistro, with his father-in-law.

We liked this apartment from the start. It has a period country house feel. It is relatively spacious and yet has a warm ambience. The big windows make it light and airy and it gets more sunshine than so many other properties and tractive outlook yet is sheltered from the prevailing wind. We decided to turn it into a holiday home and feel we might one day live in it if our present home and garden become too much for us.

What makes this apartment unique

We love the relative quietness and variation of attractive scenery of this part of the Yorkshire Dales. We also love the labyrinth of footpaths which offer a greater variety of walks than many other areas and allow walks to be shortened or lengthened depending on mood or weather.

We arrived to find a beautiful spacious apartment in a grand house with many unique and and quaint features.

The owners had kindly left a welcome pack of delicious homemade bread,cake and marmalade to start us off on the right foot.

The apartment was very well equipped throughout with all mod cons and was very comfortable.

As always though when renting holiday accommodation there are a few things that should be better,one was the electric shower which gave scolding hot water one minute and icy cold the next with a miserable flow but our main gripe was the electric heating settings are not high enough for the very cold windy weather so when you light the stove in living room the radiators go off until temperature drops to 19 degrees so you get cool again which is not good enough for elderly people.These two points are the only reason we could not give this property 5*.

The local pubs in Grinton and Reeth all allow dogs and serve really good food and ale.

All in all a very good experience.

If you had then they could have been resolved immediately which would have made your stay more comfortable. Setting this aside we are pleased that you liked our apartment and enjoyed your stay.
