Escape To East Bank Cottage In The Idyllic Village Of Winster, Peak District

Overview

Property

Updated: 30-Oct-2016
Cottage in Winster, Peak District, Derbyshire Dales, England - Peaceful Location In Centre Of Village, Beautiful Views Over The Countryside, Footpaths On Doorstep

Beautifully renovated 1850s detached stone cottage, one minute walk to the local pub, countryside views from the garden, easily accessible to footpaths and cycle routes. Sleeps 4/5. We love staying in our cottage in Winster as it is such a relaxing place to be. We have furnished it to be comfortable and inviting. We also welcome well behaved pets - no extra charge. There is so much to do in this area - Chatsworth, Bakewell, Matlock - Heights of Abraham etc, before you even start exploring the exciting countryside around - the White Peak (where Winster is) and the easily accessible Dark Peak. We have enjoyed numerous country walks and cycles - particularly along the fabulous off-road cycle trails that Derbyshire has to offer - the Peak Trail and Tissington Trail are very near to Winster. It is also only 45 minutes drive to Alton Towers so easily accessible for a day out!

Our second stay here, even better than the first! Loved the Monsal trail (hire bikes from Hassop station). Thanks for a lovely stay! The Bradburys

We have had a great time here, so much to do- got to come again...cottage is lovely, Winster great, loved both pubs and played 'you take the high road, I take the low road on the way back from the miners standard. Will definitely return! The Hunts

We've had a really lovely time at East Bank Cottage. It's a very comfortable cottage in a beautiful village. There is so much to do here, it's a great area and we'll definitely come back to explore some more soon. The Gillmans

What a perfect cottage in a beautiful setting. Just the break we all needed. Loads to do and lots to see. Thank you for sharing it with us. The Hicks family.

This is a lovely old cottage to stay in and everything you could need has been provided. Lovely old village and the pub food was good too. Would definitely recommend!

Lovely cottage in a lovely setting

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at East Bank Cottage. The village was lovely and very friendly and, of course, the surrounding area was great for exploring.

Sadly, the week we chose was not the best of weather but this did not stop us enjoying exploring beautiful Derbyshire. Whatever the weather threw at us, we knew we had a lovely, comfortable cottage to come back to where we could relax indoors if we chose, rather than going out again for the evening.

Everything we needed was at hand in the cottage, the bedrooms were comfy, the lounge was lovely for relaxing and I especially enjoyed getting up early to read my book sitting by the window with a beautiful view down East Bank and into the distance.

Dog friendly, cosy, miniature perfection.

  • 5 of 5

The cottages on the bank in Winster are quite the cutest jumble of cottages I've come across. Originally lead miners cottages they sit on the hill barely separated by little pathways and steps and secret passages, a delight to explore!

East Bank Cottage is modestly furnished and a perfect base to discover the huge amount on offer in the area. The brand new kitchen has everything you would want and the huge bathroom feels palatial! We slept well in the comfy beds. Linda had thoughtfully left kindling, fire lighters and coal, which made for a welcome cosy fire after wet walks!

Excellent well stocked community shop and post office two minute walk down the hill, and pub serving homemade good pub food even closer. We had a really good steak and a curry.

Couldn't fault this little place.

Just note that these cottages weren't built with parking in mind and have vernacular characteristics such as steep narrow stairs.

Weekend stay

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is based in the quaint village of Winster and there are numerous scenic walks nearby. The cottage is very spacious and very clean. It is lovely and quiet. There are great views from the window. A pub, The Bowling Green Inn, is just a few minutes walk down the hill and serves delicious food and is value for money. There is also a well stocked village shop and post office. Ideal cottage for a weekend break.

Family get together

  • 4 of 5

3 adults and a pug arrived on Thursday, joined by 2 more adults on Sunday. Plenty of beds to go around with 3 sharing a room on the last night, but no complaints. Well equipped kitchen and spotlessly clean. Had great weather over the bank holiday so the garden came in useful for barbecues and enjoying the view from the decking area. Would definitely give 5 stars if it wasn't for the lack of parking, we did manage to park on the Main Street but it was a very busy weekend. Great walking area and can recommend Chinese takeaway in Matlock.

Location

From the Owner

Beautiful area, good central location. The village of Winster sold itself to us when we visited! It has a lovely feeling about it and is very friendly with great amenities such as the village shop and pubs. Great location for enjoying outdoor pursuits - walking, cycling, rock climbing etc but also plenty of interesting places to visit: Heights of Abraham, Chatsworth, Crich tramway museum, Blue John Caves. We have also enjoyed joining in the village activities: pancake race day, Winster wakes (annual carnival), secret gardens.

Facilities

From the Owner

We find the village of Winster very welcoming and enjoy our stays here, whether it is a relaxing short stroll from the house, a more challenging hill walk, cycling the numerous off-road cycle tracks which are great for the children or enjoying the good fare in the Old Bowling Green. There are plenty of activities/places to visit which we have enjoyed such as Crich tramway museum where we love riding the old trams, Chatsworth, cable cars upto the Heights of Abraham or a day out for the kids at Gullivers Land.
