About the property

Cottage in heart of St Ives by Tate Gallery, in a quiet pedestrian walkway.Close to shops, restaurants and amenities.

Star Gazy is in a quiet pedestrian walkway.Having entered the cottage there are 6 stairs taking you into the dining room, everything then is on one level. Star Gazy was originally built around 200 years ago as a store for fish, and was converted onto a comfortable 3 bedroom home about 100 years ago. Star Gazy retains several of its original features including stripped floorboards in the dinning room and bedrooms, and beams and exposed granite in the dining room. It is light and airy and overlooks the gardens in the meadow. Care has been taken in choosing furniture and equipment to make the cottage as quirky and comfortable as possible. You will be welcomed with a bottle of wine, and our housekeeper makes every effort to leave a few items in the cottage for your use, washing up liquid, salt, pepper, hand soap etc. All linen and towels are professionally laundered and included in the price. Local grocers etc are a 2 minute walk away. Supermarkets are on the edge of town.

About Sandra Fenn

Star Gazy is a family owned cottage, loved by three generations. Various members enjoy art, sports, and gardens and spend as much time in St. Ives as our busy working lives allow.

Sandra Fenn purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Sandra Fenn chose St Ives area

Our family spent several wonderful holidays in St Ives and in 2002 we made the decision to buy a holiday home of our own. St Ives cafes, beaches and walks are open all year round and we carefully chose Star Gazy for its excellent, quiet, location in the heart of old St. Ives in Down-a-Long, close to the beach and restaurants as our much loved family holiday home.

What makes this cottage unique

Star Gazy is in a quiet pedestrian lane away from passing traffic yet only 50 meters away from the fantastic beach of Porthmeor, where you can enjoy breakfast in the cafe overlooking the beach. 2 minutes walk along the cobbled Digey takes you to the Harbour, shops, and range of cafes and restaurants.

Star Gazy is an old granite cottage with three bedrooms for up to six people and a baby, but is much enjoyed by couples also as a quite retreat.

Full central Heating, unlimited hot water, professionally laundered linen, gas, electricity, and WiFi are all included in the price. Star Gazy has its own parking space for an average sized family car 5 mins walk away, a bonus in busy St Ives.

Off season we offer bargain rates to guests who appreciate the benefits of the quieter months of the year. 3 to 7 night breaks are available between end October and Easter.

Perfect location

  • 5 of 5

This is the 2nd time in Star Gazy and probably won't be the last.

Perfect location you can actually hear the sea from the cottage as it is only 50 metres to the beach, nothing as been missed there is everything you could possibly need.

It is also lovely and warm as well as been cosy with plenty of room,

The cottage is full of character and retains the olde world style which appeals to us with the wooden floors and whitewashed walls etc.

I would recommend this cottage without doubt it is really is very nice and clean, the parking space is an asset although a 10 minute walk from the cottage but parking in St ives can be very difficult so to have any parking is a bonus.

The propriorter gives clear and mapped details as to where the parking space is and where the cottage is and where to unload your luggage and we had no problems whatsoever.

We loved both our stays here so nice and peaceful and will definitely return to Star gazy again

Winter break in St Ives

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at Star Gazy for a week with my family and one of my children's friends basically 6 adults the cottage is in a great location yards from the beach, very warm and comfortable cottage ideal for a summer or winter break, we are local to St Ives but live out of town and fancied a week in town for change just to chill and generally have a relaxing time, we ate at the sloop, the seafood cafe and had a couple of nights in, I can't recommend this enough, it's ideal for adults and families and represents exceptional value for money, great break 5 star recommendation from us and have already booked again

A really well equipped property in just the right place.

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Star Gazy, and with just two of us (who like a bit of space) it was the perfect size. Star Gazy has just about all the equipment and beach paraphernalia that you need for a seaside holiday. With Porthmeor Beach and it's cafe only a few yards away it doesn't need an outside seating area or a sea view. Although so close to the beach, it is very quiet as the lane outside gets very little use.

A short stroll down the Digey and you are into the shopping and harbour areas in minutes. It appears at this time of year few of the crowds in the harbour area get to Porthmeor.

Unloading and loading the car was quite easy as you can stop at the end of the alley before parking up the hill. Parking space is a bit of a climb and walk away but with St Ives parking currently £47 per week it is a godsend.

We wouldn't hesitate to go back again, if we get the chance.

Cosy cottage

  • 5 of 5

We have been regular travellers to Cornwall for Forty years and what a find this is,the cottage is full of character and so cosy and warm as we were there in March when the weather can be cold.

Sandra has forgotten absolutely nothing and I mean nothing, well equipped kitchen which is spotlessly clean as is all the cottage,Tv with plenty of films to choose from if you decide to stay in,constant hot water and a real heating system not those night storage heaters, even a bottle of wine on arrival as well as tea, coffee and milk just the thing you need after a 400 mile journey.

The location is superb 50 metres from the beach,2 mins from Fore street and harbour and a flat walk at that, car parking is about 1/4 mile but beware that hill is steep but wakens you up in the morning and as you running back down it when you come back but that's St Ives ,The only one bad point I can think of is that there is no garden or patio but as we were there in March that didn't affect us but even in summer why sit in a garden when you can sit on a beach.

Overall excellent location, spotless cottage, warm and very well equipped and as I write this review am in process of booking for next year so I think that says it all

Owner's Response: We are so pleased to receive this generous review, we always do our best to ensure that we do all we can to make Star Gazy as welcome as possible. Many of our guests return year after year, so we know that we are making our guests happy. It is true, that in common with most properties in Down -a- Long, (the local name for the old fishing quarter) outside space is not available, but with the beach just 50 meters away we hope an evening drink in the seaside air will be enjoyed by all. Welcome to Star Gazy, Sandra Fenn
