About the Owner

My husband and I moved to Suffolk 6 years ago with our 3 children. We didn't really know Suffolk at all and had no friends or family in the area, so the move from London to a small country village was very daunting. It didn't take us long however to settle into village life and make friends. Kersey may be small, but it has a great friendly community with so much happening throughout the year.

I look after the cottage and our 3 children and my husband works in London and helps out with doing the gardening and maintenance.

We have all fallen in love with Suffolk and continue to enjoy exploring this wonderful county.

This house was the perfect setting for a rare and special joint family weekend away. The whimsical charm of the house in picturesque Kersey was well enjoyed by all. A real treat for those interested in the rich historical tapestry painted across England's past. Some memorable family moments were had around the hearth and will not soon be forgotten. We're so honoured to be a small part of the house's long history. Many thanks for the incredible hospitality and attention to detail - a true gem!

Beautiful, luxury countryside accomodation!

  • 5 of 5

We visited recently as a group of friends and we had the best time here. We do weekends away to similar places twice a year to catch up and after four years of this, we all agreed that this was one of the best! Louise was fantastic - greeting us on arrival and telling us about the best places to go. The hamper was simply amazing! The house itself is literally a home away from home - and decorated with little beautiful touches throughout. We loved the dining room and had a full three course meal there with candlesticks going and both fires blaring which was rather special on a rainy day. The only negative was having to go home! Thanks Louise - we loved it!

Beautiful property in idyllic setting

  • 5 of 5

The property itself is beautiful as its the village its located in. The facilities were very well maintained and spotless and all the little extras, including bedding / towels etc, were of a very high quality. The welcome basket was amazing, very generously stocked with local produce and treats. We ate at the village pub which served good traditional pub food. We also visited Hollow Tree Farm close by, which was great for the kids and had a nice cafe. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone who wants a luxury weekend away in the countryside.

A first class beautiful rental property, absolutely wonderful and highly recommended

  • 5 of 5

My family and I have just spent a 4 day mini break at Cressland and we were all very impressed. The cottage is picture postcard perfect, there is a lovely spacious garden with outside table and chairs and a little stream running at the bottom of the garden. The owners certainly have great style and taste as the interior décor and furniture were beautiful. It was a pleasure just to spend time in such a lovely cottage. Gorgeous little touches like soft pristine bathrobes, fluffy rugs and large towels, White Company toiletries, generous welcome basket including a bottle of wine really made our stay extra special. Every inch of the cottage is spotlessly clean.

Kersey is very beautiful too, there is so much to do in the area we will have to arrange a return trip. Whilst there we enjoyed walking (from the cottage), dining out (would recommend the Greyhound and The Swan at Lavenham), Gainsborough's House at Sudbury worth a visit as are the local stately homes. Lots of tourist information in the cottage which is very useful.

Thank you to Louise & Pascoe we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and really didn't want to leave.

The best rental we have ever stayed in!

  • 5 of 5

We could not fault this property at all! Louise thought of every little detail which really made it feel like a 5 star weekend. We were presented with a very large welcome basket and homemade cake (which was delicious), all the rooms had bath robes and very comfortable bed linen and pillows etc.The actual property itself was stunning and full of character. We were so happy to see so many of the original features still in their full glory.

Kersey village and the surrounding area is also so pretty, full of the most amazing architecture and history- it was like stepping back in time.

We really wished we booked this place for a full week! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Location

From the Owner

Cressland has all the old-world charm of a 15th century cottage, but with all the modern day amenities with spacious rooms, easily accommodating large groups, or two families. It is also perfect for romantic weekends. We wanted guests to have the flexibility of self-catering, but with the added feel of a luxury hotel experience. Located right next to 'The Splash' in the picturesque village of Kersey, and 200 yards from the local pub, it is the perfect, idyllic rural retreat. Suffolk, as one of the driest, warmest and sunniest counties in England, is the perfect holiday destination. There is also so much to do and see in the area. Walking, cycling, sailing, visiting the many picturesque medieval villages, market towns and Constable country. Exploring heaths, forests, heritage coastline, beaches, castles, historic houses, as well as fun family days out and activities. We are even close enough to visit London and Cambridge for the day.

Further Details:

Dating back to medieval times, Kersey is a picturesque, traditional Suffolk village, consisting of many listed properties. Kersey became prosperous and famous for its “Kersey Cloth” during a period centred on the 14th and 15th centuries when the broadcloth industry provided wealth to South Suffolk communities. There was a steady decline in the 17th century when the village experienced a period of poverty. The village now has a thriving community, with many societies and events taking place throughout the year.

In many ways Kersey is a hidden gem, but once found it is never forgotten and it appears on many postcards, calendars, TV programmes and even a jigsaw puzzle. Visited by painters, walkers, cyclists and tourists. Over the years countless scenes have been shot here for films, TV programmes and advertisements. The first scene of “Lovejoy” is through the famous “Splash”. Kersey was also the scene for a recent Meerkat advertisement and home to the author Sir Hammond Innes who lived at “Ayres End”.

St Mary’s Church at the top of the South end of the village is visible for miles around, especially when floodlit. Every Thursday evening between 8-9 pm you will hear the bell ringers practising.

The 14th Century Bell Inn, 100yds up the road has oak beams, a cosy open fire and offers good traditional pub food and local ales.

Kersey Mill, located just off the main road before the Kersey Village sign, is a Grade II* listed mill house and watermill, together with a Grade II listed converted maltings. It stands in grounds of around 16 acres on the banks of the River Brett near Hadleigh, and has been converted into a gym, hair salon, beauty rooms, art gallery, and tea room.
