The Hay House is on a traditional, organic farm in the heart of East Devon. Just three miles from the coast at Sidmouth, the South West Coast Path and the World Heritage Jurassic Coastline. There is just one holiday house at Blacklake Farm. The Hay House is a beautifully restored and furnished self catering Landmark Trust style holiday house with far reaching views of classic Devon countryside; Dartmoor to the west and Exmoor to the east. It offers total peace and tranquillity , amidst the seasonal ebb and flow of traditional farm life which you are welcome to enjoy. A real Devon holiday. The conversion has been done with traditional building materials throughout, such as lime plaster and lime based paint. The result is a traditional Devon farm dwelling with a comfortable and relaxed ambience. Being the only holiday house on the farm, the Hay House offers total peace and privacy with only the ebb and flow of traditional farm life to punctuate the day. The Hay House is part of the old farm yard which, like the principal farmhouse is listed grade II. The front door of the Hay House opens onto a private fenced garden with adjacent car parking. The Hay House enjoys fantastic, far reaching views of classic Devon countryside which can be enjoyed from all the main rooms of the house and garden. Farm life continues around you with frequent sightings of Dorset Down Sheep, Devon Red Cows, and the general farm calendar of haymaking, hedging, lambing etc. You are invited to explore and enjoy the farm as part of your stay. We invite you to enjoy the farm and chat to us about anything of interest. - Farm produce is also available fresh or frozen.

About the Owner

Catherine and Nick Broomfield love their farm. We are passionate about traditional breeds of cattle and sheep and old buildings and architecture. We live on the farm in the old thatched farmhouse. We are there if you need us or want to chat, but equally we are happy to leave you to the peace and quite and your own privacy.

We are happy for you and your children to feed the hens and collect eggs, talk to the goats, and normally just see the cows and sheep from a distance in the fields unless they are in the sheds in the winter.

  • Notes on accommodation: Whilst we have taken every effort to maintain the integrity of the building and its environment, we have included the necessities of life to ensure a comfortable stay; dishwasher, television, DVD player, heating, fully equipped kitchen, plenty of hot water, well equipped bathroom and good quality, comfortable beds. There is also a new games room (since 2012). Outside: There is a fenced garden with The Hay House very private. Beyond the fenced garden is a larger fenced area with picnic table and plenty of space. Then its just fields and trees to explore and enjoy and distant views. Deck chairs, picnic table and chairs, sun shade, toy tractors. Utility Room: Washing Machine off kitchen, Tumble Drier and Freezer available in barn next door Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Good quality Bed Linen provided with duck down pillows. (non feather bedding can be provided on request). Towels provided. Cleaning provided before and after your stay - just relax.... Other: The Games Room – in the old stable next to The Hay House is a games room with a pool table and table tennis. Great for those times when you fancy having some fun at the farm or when it rains (it sometimes does!)
